hearing somebody from a bank preach responsibility is kinda ironic lol

but seriously, if we're gonna talk responsibility my buddy cashed a check from someone in dEcember, he just got it back bounced last week... if the system is set up to screw the average guy then **** the system it needs to be changed. Plenty of legit ways to make money or even non legit ways to make money that still keep people happy.

I'll tell ya what, make every transaction instant withdrawl/deposit and stop the teabags and i'll be good

I work for a Federal Credit Union. The ones who didnt participate in sub-prime lending, and dont deal with corportate investments. So we are the responsible ones.
If your buddy cashed a check from someone who didnt have the money and it never cleared, theres nothing anyone can do about that aside from him going back to the guy and getting the money. Who's fault is that exactly? Your buddy cashed the check, not deposit. So when the check was bad, where do we take the money back from? You expectthe bankto eat the bad check?

Matt, you do alot of research on alot of different topics I noticed, but i dont blame you for not knowing what youre talking about here.

Most people dont understand how banking works, and it's understandable because it's complicated. Everyone just assume that banks are wrong and they are right. It all just comes back to responisibility. In your scenario if some scumbag didnt write a bad check your buddy wouldnt have gotten screwed. Not his fault....not the banks fault either. Awareness is a better term to use than responisbility I guess.

Congrats on your HUGE UConn win last night.

A couple more wins and we actually might get into the tournament. We missed coach Calhoon when he was out sick.

We have beaten Texas, Villanova and now WV. Quality wins.

Joe Lunardi has you in right now but you do need to win a couple more. If you make it to the semis of the tourney you should be good. How could they leave a team like that out?

I hope Maryland makes it but I doubt it...

its a system setup to screw over the common man... lets be honest about it..

I wholly disagree with this statement, more and more this country has been instituting systems to screw the RICH man, to give to the Common to Poor man...

the current system is to your benefit matt, mine to, I'm still payed like ****, if I made what I think I should make I'd be getting taxed to hell.

i put thousands of dollars into ur bank a year

which you always spend and take out. what does the bank care what you deposit?Banks PAY YOU to keep it there, in hopes that you maybe take a loan or mortgage, and pay THEM back interest. It's a business.

haha, kinda funny we're discussing this cuz listen what just happened at work:

Dude just walks into my office(which by the way annoys the **** out of me) and hes like i need help. So i'm like alright what can I do for you?
Hes like I need to do something about these fees. how do I stop them?

im such a ****....

I say "not spend money you dont have"
then he starts ranting about how he didnt authorize us to charge him fees and draw him negative, and he rather just have stuff rejected...

Im like dude, you wrote people checks after you filled your truck with $100 in gas....would you rather us bounce your check AND return the item....thats $35. you paid $24...
or you could just go to another bank that would charge you $39 a fee
People dont get it...and the ****ing news doesnt help. I seriously have to watch the news tell me that banks try to make money, and charge "overdraft fees"....first of all , there is no such ****ing thing as an "overdraft fee". Overdraft means we take money from somewhere else to pay money that was supposed to be in your checking account.....usually your savings account, or some sort of line of credit.

2nd of all....what do people not get? If you spend money you DONT HAVE, there should be no repercussion for that??The bank should just use their own money to pay for your things??

I see this BS on the news, and it infuriates me that they sympathize with negligence. I just dont understand. ive been there...ive overdrawn my account into the negative when I was young. I knew why it happened. it's not their fault i spent the money! lol

ok END RANT! =]

actually yea, thats exactly what the **** i think should happen lol..

our money being put in there is what makes u guys even be in business... if we have a temporary overlap which happens maybe once or twice ayear by some bad budgeting, 40 dollar fee is fair? I mean honestly thats kinda crazy.

The money off loan interest keeps us in business. the money you put in the bank just backs it.
$40 is not fair...which is why my institution only charges $24. lol
Next thing youre going to tell me is that there should be no interest charged for borrowing money!
And then youre going to tell me how awesome communism looks on paper =P

It's responisbility dude. If I was adult enough to accept it at 16, we should all accept it at our age. I understand everyone including myself, run into situations where **** happens.....but the fact that the bank even has the option to PAY your transaction is a convenience.

Here a story that pisses me off ...I changed banks a couple years ago because the bank i was at started putting hold s on my deposits...the bank I am at now was 24 hours to clear a check anyway in new england ....now they have changed checks over 5000.00 three day clearing process...I take a 10000 dollar check from a bank not even a mile away from my bank last month its still three working days wait what is up with that...

yea that DOES suck! My CU calls banks to verify bank checks like that. if we can confirm its fine, theres no hold. Other checks we cant help though. I forget what our hold policy is for those scenarios though...im not a teller. I think its 2 days for local, 4 days non-local

no its the banks fualt for processing something then taking it away 2 months later, causing him to go below zero and get a fee charged....

quite frankly i think the whole system is a sham because in this world of instant technology, how could it take so long to see if there cash in an account, whether its bank to bank or not... it just makes no sense lol. It should be able to be zapped.

I expect the bank to be more responsibile and not let something like that drag on for 2 months. Most of america lives pay check to pay cehck, its a fact. The fact that it dragged out for two months.. yea I do think they should eat it, especially because it was like a 600 dollar ****in thing. With the way these fees are there to teabag us with overdrafting (or however u want to call it) and ATM and then with these big wigs getting 5 mil dollar xmas bonuses... its gross.

Ya know what, cut big daddy to 4 mil and cut the teabagging down on the common man.

Where was the banks awareness and responsbility in this case is I guess what im actually asking. No notice, they just take money back and then charge over draft fees? If your trying to tell me thats right, then I guess we're just gonna have to agree to disagree

just stop arguing what you dont know about.
If someone has a paper check(which is ****ing ggaaaaayyyyy anyway cuz checks suck), the ****ing thing actually does have to be sent back to the issuing institution for clearance. i dont know how long that takes. So its the banks fault for TAKING IT, but youd also ***** if they said, no we cant cash something that large.

Maybe im arguing the wrong points here. I work at a CU, not a commercial bank. We are not-for-profit....our only paid execs are a CEO and CFO....and our Board of Directors is made of 9 unpaid community volunteers who are voted in by members. We're the good guys.
I'm sorry that you have had foul banking experiences.

yea that DOES suck! My CU calls banks to verify bank checks like that. if we can confirm its fine, theres no hold. Other checks we cant help though. I forget what our hold policy is for those scenarios though...im not a teller. I think its 2 days for local, 4 days non-local
The thing that gets me it was a bank check..cashiers check I believe its called..from a bank a mile away.. ****ed up... I must adjust to itthat's all...do my billing earlier..to cover my bills due dates...

i put thousands of dollars into ur bank a year

which you always spend and take out. what does the bank care what you deposit?Banks PAY YOU to keep it there, in hopes that you maybe take a loan or mortgage, and pay THEM back interest. It's a business.

my money being circulated thru their systems is what keeps them in business...

my savings money is what they use no?

its a system setup to screw over the common man... lets be honest about it..

I wholly disagree with this statement, more and more this country has been instituting systems to screw the RICH man, to give to the Common to Poor man...

the current system is to your benefit matt, mine to, I'm still payed like ****, if I made what I think I should make I'd be getting taxed to hell.

listen we just sat thru 8 years of bush where there was NOTHING but tax breaks for the rich.... something like that top 10 % of the richest people in the country account for like 50%.. im not even gonna qoute it, i gotta find the article that lays it all out...

the country is goin in the ****ter economically. The Poor/Middle classes are tapped. If we're gonna keep this empire going, gonna have to hit the big boys

Tax breaks for the rich help the common man more then tax break for the common man.

Tax breaks for the rich create Jobs.

regardless, I'm not saying Bush did a good job (although he was never even close to as bad as Obama has been, Obama's already created more Debt the Bush did over 8 years of his presidency in one year)

what we REALLY need is Ronald Reagan, a true Conservative.

It bothers me Matt, when you say things like (the Lower/Middle Class is tapped) what do they pay for???? almost nothing the top 10% of america pays something like 90% or more of the taxes In America....what we pay is almost insignificant, you make it sound like we are getting a raw deal, that's simply not true, the lower/middle class gets the best deal imaginable.

hearing somebody from a bank preach responsibility is kinda ironic lol

but seriously, if we're gonna talk responsibility my buddy cashed a check from someone in dEcember, he just got it back bounced last week... if the system is set up to screw the average guy then **** the system it needs to be changed.

Awareness is a better term to use than responisbility I guess.

no its the banks fualt for processing something then taking it away 2 months later, causing him to go below zero and get a fee charged....

quite frankly i think the whole system is a sham because in this world of instant technology, how could it take so long to see if there cash in an account, whether its bank to bank or not... it just makes no sense lol.

I'm sorry that you have had foul banking experiences.

well like I say, the system is ****ed up. I understand ur saying this is how it works and I am saying how it is setup is a teabagging situation.

interesting thoughts here.

Today I went out hunting for jobs and was shocked at the results.

mortgages are barely being made, rates are being raised accross the board, and there more people out of jobs than almost ever.. what are u going to squeeze? I dont get where u see money coming from?

It will come from growth, if we leave big business alone, if we keep taxing them more and more (like we have for more the 10 years) we will keep going down the tubs, we are here BECAUSE we taxed too much, taxing more will not get us out.

Your missing the point of my Mercedes Benz comment, it was to say that the rich are still rich my man... they ain't hurtin, they gotta pay a lil extra oh well.. you can admit to it or not, but this lower class is stretched about as far as it can go... theres not much more...

your missing MY point, of course the rich are still rich, when we start taxing them enough that they will no longer be rich they will LEAVE, we don't want them to leave...why? because they are still buying Mercedes Benz, and Mercedes Benz hires people like you and me, so we can afford our homes and food, make the rich people leave, noones buying Mercedes, and we lose our JOBS....and can no longer afford our housing or food.

Business of luxory are still hiring,

Yes, they are still hiring people like YOU, and people like ME.

the hell does that mean lol. They are staying par while other companies in the autoworld are going under... and more jobs are being lost... just becaus eMercedes isn't means ****. If you can get the lower class up and pumping again, then ur talkin more DIFFERENT companies up and running and growing and living and breathing, then the ecoinomy is breathing.

the only way to get the lower class up and pumping again, is by getting the upper class to spend more money, thus creating jobs for the lower class.

I dont get where u really see money coming from from the lower/middle class..

the money should come from failed government projects....all the GREEN ****, since it's clear Global Warmings a myth at this point, we should start drilling our own Oil, that creates jobs, AND saves the country money, we HAVE to stop this health care bill which is a billion trillion dollar hole, these Jobs bills...they SUCK, they spend hundreds of millions of dollars to create 3 or 4 jobs that last one year...

Government needs the back the **** off, let our country fix itself....that's the only way out...

[:O]------[:@]

WTF Matt??

you don't understand, the reason we are in trouble as a country is because we've strayed TOO FAR from the constitution, the constitution is perfectly applicable today, the problem is the politicians have found so many loop holes, punched so many holes in the constitution that it's not the same as it once was anymore, we need to go back, to the way it was, we need to now more then every follow the constitution to the T, instead of ignoring it...or god forbid rewriting it.

its a system setup to screw over the common man... lets be honest about it..

It bothers me Matt, when you say things like (the Lower/Middle Class is tapped) what do they pay for???? almost nothing the top 10% of america pays something like 90% or more of the taxes In America....what we pay is almost insignificant, you make it sound like we are getting a raw deal, that's simply not true, the lower/middle class gets the best deal imaginable.

but with the shape of this country i have no faith in big governement

It's
all in a lawsuit filed in Jackson County, Missouri in which John Coomer
claims he was just chillin' at a game on September 8, 2009 -- when
Slugger "climbed atop the third base dugout and started shooting
hotdogs into the stands from an air gun."

Coomer claims Slugger
eventually put the air gun down -- and started firing off the wieners
by hand ... when, according to the suit, things went horribly wrong.

In
the docs, Coomer claims "Slugger lost control of his throw or was
reckless with his throw, and threw the hotdog directly into the
Plaintiff."

Coomer claims the dog hit him right in his left eye -- leaving him with a detached retina and the development of cataracts.

Coomer
is now suing the Royals for more than $25k for negligence and battery
-- claiming they "failed to adequately train its agents ... in the
proper method in which to throw hotdogs into the stands at Kauffman
Stadium."

Remember, when handling wieners -- it's always safety first

example: here in Illinois a man by the name of Mark Kirk runs as a "moderate" Republican.

when you research what he's voted for/ against you suddenly realize that he's basically a Liberal in the guise of a Republican.

Hence the reason why we have the Tea Party and I might add, the Constitution Party.

The hope is that these Conservative groups can influence the RNC in a way that for the RNC's sake, restores some sense of faith in the system.

Many voters are in actuality uninformed and that is the biggest tragedy.

Notice: Conservatives attempt to deal with the issues, Liberals have a tendency to attack the person and skirt the issues.

At least that's how they play politics here in the Windy City.

Matt, I happen to agree that the Iraq war was a bad idea. But it wasn't based on lies. The US government, the U.N., the Brits, French and basically every governmnet accross the world believed that Iraq had weapons of mass distruction. They went with the best information they had, and were determined not to risk the lives of the American people from another attack. The administration was wrong, but so was every other government around the world.

I thought the continued enforcement of the no fly zone and the existence of our troops in Kuiwait, were enough of a deterrent. It isn't what I would have done, but it wasn't an unreasonable policy.

i mean it is hard to keep up with EVERY politican and what they actually stand for... especialy cuz mots of the time they all flip flop lol

Its also hard to label both parties that way, because I believe Liberals try for issues just as if not harder than conservatives and if the way the Consevatives are treating Obama (specifically STate of the Union), its hrad to say they dont have a tendency to attack people just as much.

real quick:

when we returned to Iraq I was stationed in Germany and all me and my Brothers could do was swear at the TV, swear at the CNNs, the BBCs, the MSNBCs....

you know why?

Prior to going in there to discover the WMD....all you saw on the news was "the US Military is gearing up to find these WMD"

that was WORSE than spilling the beans on a say a Surprise B-day Party.

the MEDIA gave out the most basic form of intel in saying we were coming.

in the first Gulf war the Media didn't know **** !!!! when we crept over the Kuwaiti border and lit that *** on fire, they (Iraqi republican guard) didn't know anything from the jump.

the old adage that Knowledge is Power is anything but cliche'.

PS

If I call you up and tell you that sometime inthe next few weeks the Police will be kicking in your door to discover that stash of 'caine, don't you think that would give you enough time to relocate said contraband elsewhere?

Lo and behold the door gets kicked in and no drugs.....

the Media is the biggest form of Rat out there.....

We (My Unit) and I'm sure many others actually hated the media with intensity...we likened the media to neighborhood snitches. fact.

A little loss of liberty can change a man's mind very quickly.

well thats where me and u differ Moorehead. I recognize the loss of liberty when my tax dollars go to things like a bull**** war to be funded. Which it has to if we are in war, but your liberties are taken every day u just haven't realized it yet.

I for one am willing to give up some liberties for my fellow american. I'd rather that be the case and fix our problems with the war for instance, that I could live with.

Make insurance companies feel the brunt and stop trying to **** the average man... i'm for it...

I'm talking about not having to buy health insurance if I don'wt want to. Just as you said you didn't a few months ago. I have no problem paying taxes, and at a higher rate as those less fortunate. But I do believe in much lower rates, with much fewer deductions so there is a hightened incentive to invest and create jobs.

When you "tax the rich" you tax money that would otherwise be invested in business and create jobs. Now all the wealthy people are buying gold, which doesn't create a single job.

Then you lose jobs and revenues to the state. In the 90's the projections were for large deficits. Then the economy started growing at a great pace. We went from a projected 200 billion deficit to a surplus, and did it without raising a single tax. Only economic growth can raise revenues to the government. Raising taxes stifles growth and actually causes a loss in revenues.

Sure sure, I want my Health Care run by the same folks who killed Social Security and run Medicare and the other terribly wasteful projects, that sounds like a great Idea.

here is my question to anyone in support of Universal Health Care.

whats wrong with our Current system? what do you think Universal Health Care will solve.

anyone and everyone can already walk into an ER and be treated, they CAN NOT turn you away, it's against (the law I think) and against their oath as a doctor....

on top of that, there are free clinics in nearly every town, will you get the same care as someone who pays for it? no, probably not, but its FREE.

and as for your comments about how insurances companies don't let you use the Doctors you want to, .... whose forcing you to use THAT Insurance company, switch to a company that allows you to use your doctor if its that important to you.

Like Morehead, I'm fine with a public option, but hell no to FORCING me to buy "their" Health Care, or pay a fine for not doing so.

ask lando about his healthcare situation... that is my answer cuz thats a dime a dozen story

I don't know Lando's story, but I've heard quite a few horror stories, but guess what, no system is perfect, and **** happens to good people....the Governments system is also going to let people fall through the cracks.

at least currently, if you have or can come up with the money, you can get what you need, god forbid you have a grandmother or grandfather who needs treatment under the proposed universal health care, no matter how much money you have the treatments they need might simply not be available because they aren't "Cost Effective"

I'm not saying it is Just Lando, but it most certainly is the "few" most people have health care and most people have no problems with it.

what does ...When that many people are uninsured because they can't afford it" ...mean anyhow,

how many do you think are uninsured, because I assure you it's less then 10 million, as long as you don't count those who CHOOSE not to have insurance because they don't WANT it.

America last I check has more then 300 million citizens, 10 million is a small portion of 300 million, it's not doing to bad.

PLUS, many of the people who don't have Health Care wouldn't USE it if it was given to them anyhow.

Just wait until the government is forced to ration health care. then you will hear horror stories. and thats awesome.. a country like ours should be able to cover our sick and young... thats the bottom line on it

and no my logic is that for once we may actually be doing something to better our country and ur taking more issue with that then for the fact that we have to supply a war and god knows whatever else it goes to... i think in ur priority battles this shouldn't be ranked #1.

well of course the wait is longer, Universal Health Care is a form or rationing, you aren't increasing the amount of care you can give, but you ARE increasing the amount of people that are entitled to care...

the only logical conclusion is either longer wait times, or a decrease in quality of care....or BOTH....

how people don't understand that is beyond me, it's rationing, don't people know what that is?

it means small business's ability to provide healthcare for their workers is almost nonexistant. And if it is an option you can choose, then most of the time it is soo expensive that nobody can afford it.

Let alone with the fact that we're probably going to be at an all time low of employment and alot of people will have no insurance..

I just think that it comes down to the simple quesiton: are you taking your fellow americans into your thoughts before you make your stands?

Let alone with the fact that we're probably going to be at an all time low of employment and alot of people will have no insurance..

I just think that it comes down to the simple quesiton: are you taking your fellow americans into your thoughts before you make your stands?

Its called Medicaid.

don't open that can of worms.. i dont have enough time in the day to go with that

So you think Medicaid, a government run health care system, is a "can of worms" and yet you still want everyone forced to use a government run health care system? how does that make sense to you.

not to stick my nose in here but why the hold up on healthcare.. i cannot understand why their would be a fight against it.. you guys rally around eachother like no other country when somethin catastrophic happens, why can't you rally around this to help everyone out?

Did I hear that the governor of Prince Edward Island has decided to come to the US for heart surgery?

(I think it was PRince Edward Island)

Thats why. Our system is already far far better than Canada's or the UK.

we def may have the best specialists in the world... but thats not speaking to the insurance system

Actually it was Danny Williams of Newfoundland.

80% of Americans are happy with their healthcare. I'm fine with helping the other 20%. But not to overhaul the whole system.

listen man, lol, i could give a **** what a small survey done on a small sample size of people came up with.

i was never asked if I was happy with my healthcare, were any of you?

I am actually surprised you buy into those worked numbers

These are widely accepted numbers. Even by Democrats. Among the people I know, that number would be near 100%.

Again, thats subjective....

I know plenty of people that aren't happy. Take away workers of the state and unions.. i know more people that can't afford cost of living.

I use to work for a window installation company making 12 an hour lol...

it woulda cost me 250 a week to have insurance....

Lando can't afford insurance for his kids because its either sky rocketed or his business just doesn't evne offer it, i forget which...

I'm sure there are people that have great insurances, **** mine ain't that bad now either... but that doesn't mean that there isn't alot of ****ty insurances out there, that people can't afford, and that hey we're ina recession, people aren't getting covered because they got no jobs lol

Its not subjective at all. Its a Washington Post poll. All other polls have similar results.

dude its not just lando... in one of the richest countries of the world, when that many people are uninsured because they can't afford it, its a serious issue...

and read the edits to this post that i responded to.. dunno if u seen it

PLUS, many of the people who don't have Health Care wouldn't USE it if it was given to them anyhow.

it means small business's ability to provide healthcare for their workers is almost nonexistant. And if it is an option you can choose, then most of the time it is soo expensive that nobody can afford it.

Plus if Canada didn't medal in Hockey the nation might go into a depression. I just watched a little thing on ESPN about it and everyone is shocked that Russia or Canada is not going to medal. Apparently it would have been preposterous to even suggest that at the beginning of the tournament.

its gold or nothing.. been that way forever.. we are still depressed over Torino results, so the maybe a long wait to jump of the CN Tower if we lose to the Ruskies.. its going to be a wild game, the Russians are trying to win their first Olympic gold since the fall of the Union.
