Kobe has 30+ points in 11 of his last 12 playoff games. Where was Lebron when his team needed him?
</P>

What team?</P>

</P>

The team that had the best record in the league 2 years in a row and made the Finals 2 years before that.

</P>

The "team" that had the best record in basketball the last 2 years was and bunch of washed up vets, a few "never were" guys and one great player.</P>

This was never a real team. It was one superstar carrying the entire city of Cleveland (my birthplace) on his shoulders.</P>

Well it's too heavy for him...

Another guy who wore 23 did the same thing. Except he stayed and made a dynasty
</P>

There were just not that many other good teams when MJ won his championships. The Knicks?</P>

The Celtics and the Lakers had each other in the 80's. Maybe the 2 greatest teams of all time.</P>

I've never jumped on the MJ bandwagon. He was great. And was an even better college player. But he had it easy. He was the third best player of all time. Thats pretty good. But all the worshiping at the MJ altar is just too predictable and boring.</P>

daven is just trying to be original like everyone else
</P>

I would say that MJ was the second best college player though. Second only to Bill Walton and just ahead of Pistol Pete.</P>

you can speak upon it as you will. but my whoel family with my dad, my uncle, and the cousins all were huge NBA guys since they were in HS.

ALL NJ based, loved the Knicks and Larry Bird.

The only argument is who was better, Magic or Bird... Jordan GOAT and its not a debate to them either.

All gentlemen of youir era... so you can't pull the old man card anymore pappy
</P>

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. MJ was definately the most athletic player. (well not really, David Thompson was).</P>

The reason I put Larry at the top is because he had no weaknesses in the game. He was a great passer and one of the great rebounders of all time. And he was the greatest shooter.</P>

MJ wasn't the outside shooter that Larry was. And MJ never liked to crash the boards. Plus Larry was meaner. I mean a lot meaner on the court.</P>

Walton was a great college player, but he was also on UCLA team with John Wooden as the coach. And don't forget Bibby, Wilkes, they were good teammates of Walton

Let's not argue this again with MH, guys. He just said...he doesn'tthink MJ is the greatest player ever, because to think that is"boring and predictable". Which basically means, he KNOWs MJ is the greatest, he just doesnt like to say it, or talk about it.

McHale was great. Larry was Larry but the chef was mediocre. he was lifted up by Larry. Trust me on this.</P>

How can you say that about the Chief? When his knees were still good, he was one of the best centers in the league during that time...</P>

He was definatly a presence in the paint.</P>

The Celtics (http://www.fannation.com/tags/show_tag/4542) may be a better team than when they won
their last title, but their inconsistency at home serves as a worry.
Boston is 6-3 on the road this postseason, so it isn't difficult to
envision them escaping Staples Center with a split. But even if they do,
it is difficult to imagine the Celtics (http://www.fannation.com/tags/show_tag/4542)
winning three straight games at home against anybody -- much less the
defending champs. In the end, it will come down to home court, the Celtics (http://www.fannation.com/tags/show_tag/4542)'
probable inability to protect theirs, the Lakers (http://www.fannation.com/tags/show_tag/4553)'
vastly improved defensive toughness, and of course, Bryant's laser-like
pursuit of his rightful place among the greatest and most decorated
champions ever to play.

The <a href="http://www.fannation.com/tags/show_tag/46" target="_blank">Blue
Jays</a> may be listing with a young rotation in a power division. The
same young starting pitchers who were shut down by the Jays last year
because of the innings they had pitched have still never gone beyond 180
innings. When young pitchers hit the wall, they hit it hard. Could it
be guys like Cecil, Morrow, Romero and even Marcum. ... While the Jays
will look after the future at the deadline, the Red Sox (http://www.fannation.com/tags/show_tag/34)
and Yankees (http://www.fannation.com/tags/show_tag/42)
have more of a "what can you do for me now" outlook, although they have
toned it down in recent years. If money talks, the Sox and Yanks will
be speaking in tongues.

"We've got two franchises that never really like each other ... because they're always playing for the ultimate prize," Celtics forward Paul Pierce (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=662) said.

"I really don't have no friends on the Lakers. I don't know who on this Boston team does. So it's going to be interesting. I'm not going to say it's going to come to blows, but it's definitely going to get fiery and it's going to get real competitive."</p>

I would say that MJ was the second best college player though.* Second only to Bill Walton and just ahead of Pistol Pete.
We never saw them play so how would we know?
Walton was a great college player, but he was also on UCLA team with John Wooden as the coach. And don't forget Bibby, Wilkes, they were good college players Hank Geathers was pretty darn good.</P>

As well as the guy who was supposed to replace Bird.</P>

From Bill Simmons:

KOBE BRYANT

Allow me to play devil's advocate to the whole "Kobe's Never Been
Better" argument: His past two series (admittedly fantastic: 33-6-7, 52
percent FG, 39 percent 3FG) happened against the ideal opponents for
him. Neither Utah (an average defensive team) nor Phoenix
(below-average) had shot-blockers, nor did either team have the
frontcourt depth to knock him down every time he drove. Defensively, he
didn't have to waste energy defending anyone, allowing him to reserve
his legs for offense. In the Finals? He'll have to play both ends.
He'll have to defend Rondo or Allen. And he will get knocked down. </p>

Playing
"angel's advocate" to the same argument: It was the finest stretch of
all-around basketball we've seen from him in nine years -- since he and
Shaq combined to eviscerate San Antonio and Sacramento in 2001 (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/gamelog?playerId=110&amp;year=2001)
(Kobe: 34-8-6, 49.5 percent FG, eight straight wins) -- and the degree
of difficulty of some of his buckets had to be seen to be believed.
Hell, these were the same shots he bricked in the 2004 Finals, only
this time, they were going in. Again and again. By the end of that
Phoenix series, his confidence/swagger was a 9.8 on the MJ Scale. If he
remains at that level and upends the 2010 Celtics, here's what happens
to him historically:</p>

By any calculation, he passes Oscar and Jerry and becomes the third-best guard ever (trailing only Jordan and Magic). </p>

In my book, I had him ranked No. 15 as a Level Four guy. Last season's
title moved him to Level Five; I thought he'd move into the top eight
if the Lakers made the Finals again. Which they did. But if they win
again? Now we have to talk about Duncan's No. 7 spot. And that argument
comes down to this: (A) Can Kobe pass Duncan even though, from 1997 to
2007, there is no way in hell that San Antonio would have considered a
Kobe-for-Duncan offer? (B) Would you rather have had the best power
forward of all time or the third-best guard of all time? And (C) how
can we reconcile Kobe's winning 35, 45 and 42 games in the prime of his
career (2005-07) when Duncan managed 57-63 wins every season despite
some similarly shaky supporting casts (2001 and 2002 in particular)?
Sorry, I'm still taking Duncan. But if Kobe gets to six rings, enjoys
one more MVP-caliber season and starts approaching some career
landmarks (such as 35,000 points), I think the argument shifts. </p>

He still can't touch Magic, who could have played with Zac Efron as his
shooting guard and still won 50-plus games. (Same for Bird, Jordan,
Russell and Kareem, by the way). But going back to the longevity thing:
Magic played only 12 seasons (not counting his ill-fated comeback in
'96), whereas Kobe just banked his 14th and he's still going strong.
Yeah, it's still not an argument, but you're also not getting laughed
out of the room anymore. </p>

He will never be greater than
Jordan. So drop that thought. Hell, even that 10-game stretch we just
witnessed wouldn't have cracked Jordan's top-10 playoff hot streaks.
But still he can beat Jordan on years. Let's say Kobe enjoys two more
top-5 MVP seasons, then settles into a "Duncan 2009/2010" type phase
for the next two, then he's washed up. The sheer volume of numbers will
add up: rings, All-NBAs, All-Star appearances, points scored, games
played -- it will be like nothing we've ever seen. At the very least,
it will be a debate. And I will get angry and tell you to shut up, and
that we need to stop comparing people to Jordan, but still, it's a
debate. And there's going to come a point when someone can ask the
question, "If you were starting a team and could have either guy for
his entire career, would you rather take MJ from 1984 to 2003 (with the
five missed years of games thrown in) or Kobe from 1997 to 2016 (with 0
missed years of games thrown in)?"</p>

So those are the stakes
for Kobe Bean Bryant. A fifth ring gets the ball rolling on every
argument you just read. It's certainly been a startling transformation
the past three years, when he remade his career in the late stages of
his prime thanks to a fortuitous trade and a breathtaking amount of
hard work. He's the toughest player in the league. He spends the most
time on his game. He has the best footwork of anyone. He plays the
hardest. He only cares about getting better and keeping what he already
earned. He has learned to trust his teammates -- not totally, but
enough. I'm not sure I would have enjoyed playing with Kobe Bryant, but
I certainly will remember watching him. </p>

And with all of that said he still hasn't beaten the Boston Celtics. </p>

Would you rather listen to some ******* ump whos trying to get in the newspaper to promote his country music album, complain about long games.....or....would you rather have good umps, during extremely important plays, in arguably historic games, make the correct calls.

Choice is clear to me, man
not so clear.. they need to work on speeding up the game than.. i cant watch the Yanks play.. the amount of times the catcher goes to the mound is silly

i dont mind what you said...not at all. I was going to mention that in my post actually, but totally forgot.

than theres freakin big sloppy and his hand clappin.. the umps really should crack down or add a time clock...

btw the Rays are now #1 on my "most hated" team list...

Over my Yankees and Sox?you like the sox aswell?

I think you know how I feel about the Sox lol

http://i49.tinypic.com/v6kghf.pngYankees Sox are now 3rd 4th.. the Toronto Argonauts were #1..

The only time the Jays will be #1 is when they get out of the al east lolthat would be great.. i'd love to get the Tigers Jays rivalry going again.. those were good times

I agree, the Jays would be a formidable team in any other division

important plays should be reviewable.

Another flaw of MLB....I don't think they will ever change it.

lmao....well i dont see how you could "penalize" delays, because its
not like football where you can charge em a few yards, etc.....

BUT what i DO think they should do, is not grant time outs. ever.

Batter tries to call time....well ****....that ******* better put his
hands back on the bat, cuz the pitcher will be throwing that heater
anyway!! can you imagine the confusion?? it'd be great!! lol

also....if a reliever has the slightest possibility of being put in the game, he should already be warmed up....no ****ing commercial breaks. i hate that ****....
relief via injury is different

It is so ****ed on so many levels. That kid knows he threw a perfect game and will never get the credit for it. It would have taken 20 seconds to get that call right from instant replay. I think Bud Selig should give it to him anyway and like they were saying on ESPN. In those circumstances when it's that close on the last out of the game just call the guy out if there is any question. For all we know he ruined that kids career. It might haunt him forever...

Now Phil Hughes on the other hand [;)]

duuuude... horrible call

i feel so bad for him..

prime example of why baseball should have instant replay for calls like that.

I dont want to hear about how its going to delay the game... cuz 4 commercials a game and it will be a push.... not to mention have a booth review on everything Just somebody watching the game buzzing down if there is a **** up.

Leave balls n strikes alone.

did you know that ESPN averages 2 more commericials per break during baseball games than any other channel

i know man its horrible. i think they should over turn it. it would of been the last out and he got the last got out too so there shouldnt be a problem. you see the look on his face when it happened you cant help but feel bad. i agree with matt. use replays, get the call right. leave balls and strikes alone. hey they used a replay to get a call right during the world series last year. selig needs to over turn this asap. its the right thing to do.

Well I've come to the realization that the only sport you can talk **** in and back it up is boxing.

Lebron does all these antics all year long....the chaulk clap, the picture taking, dancing and all the other celebrations...then when it came down to it, he crys about an elbow and blew it out of proportion so it didn't look as bad if they lost. I mean really...I've been thinking about it over and over, and it's like he knew they weren't going to win the series. LEFT HANDED FREE THROW? I mean COME ON!

Then they literally quit with 90 seconds to play and they were only down 9!

I still root for him, but he's lost respect in my book for sure.

Kobe on the other hand? I used to DESPISE the guy more than anyone else in sports....then 2-3 years ago, he matured and is transcending the game the way Michael used to. I can honestly say (and I never thought I would or would even want to) that he is on MJ's level. The man is deadly and WILL destroy you if given the opportunity.

lmao...That's f'n awesome. I woulda rocked that if she wasn't going to!

Really? Some Lebron fan you are. lol j/k

<font size="6">PREACH!!!</font>

http://bp0.blogger.com/_4mpn8RG2z0A/RkwZCX4pnhI/AAAAAAAAABs/xGpf1ylM2fY/s320/carltonpearson.jpg

I could not agree more. He will however never be better than MJ. But just to have him mentioned in the same breath is very nice.

It's amazing that he and his dad played together, let alone the Back-To-Back homers! He will be missed greatly. It's sad though....had he only stayed healthy he would "The Guy" our kids will be talking about.

A-Rod may be the better hitter....but his D doesn't hold a candle to Griffey.

I'm a huge Yanks fan, so i'm not trying to take a low blow on A-Rod....but it can be debated that Griffey was the better "pure" hitter b/c of the whole steroid era.

Not once has his name been brought up. That and the fact that he was the face of baseball for the 90's. He had so much personality and love for the game.

I mean he was "The Kid" for God's sake. He played for the love of the game.

10 gold gloves, 600 homers (only Willie Mays has more GG's w/ 12)...btw Willie got those GG's consecutively...just found that out, and that is freaking impressive.

</P>

yea one thing that A-Rod has over Griffey is that he's had a healthier career(albeit steroids or not idk), and typically had a better average than Junior.
Griffey's defense in CF was pretty much unmatched in the 90s. it was amazing really, love watching him in the field as much as at the plate..
Statistically Alex will be the better player, but Griffey will be the fan favorite FO SHO</P>

Why can't there be more class acts in sports like Griffey and Galarraga....I can't believe this kid is being as calm and collected as he is about the blown call, saying people are only human and make mistakes, and forgave him when Joyce comes and apologizes, and then presents the lineup card to Joyce today, and Joyce in tears when he recieved it. It really doesnt get any better or more genuine than that....I think Selig overturns it just for that reason.

Compare their attitudes to that of Hanley Ramirez a while ago.

Or Griffey retiring b/c he doesn't want to be a distraction to his team and yet you have Manny Ramirez holding out last year to get an additional 5 million, or Haynesworth not wanting to particiapate b/c he doesn't like playing in the 3-4.
