Welcome, one and all, to the inaugural edition of the NFC East
All-Division Team. The goal is to do this every Wednesday during the
season, making changes as we go along based on how guys are playing at
each position throughout the season. But this is a starting point --
something akin to the first college football or basketball poll of the
season, before any games are played. Just my own personal ranking of the
best guy at each position in the NFC East.
First, a couple of notes on the format. I decided to pick the best
player at each position on the offensive line -- i.e., a left tackle and
a right tackle instead of just the two best tackles. I went with
current positions and judged players based on those -- so, for example,
while Todd Herremans (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/8540/todd-herremans)
might be one of the top two guards in the division, he's a right tackle
right now. And because our division features two 4-3 defense teams and
two 3-4 teams, I saw no other way to go on defense than to name 12
players -- four linebackers, four linemen, two cornerbacks and two
safeties. I also took points off for injuries. If you're LaRon Landry (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/10451/laron-landry)
and you're not playing Sunday, you don't get your rightful place among
the division's top two safeties just yet. Come back and play, we we can
talk.
But this is new, and meant to be fun and foster debate. So I welcome
any ideas you guys may have on how to proceed with it throughout the
season. Meantime, for your enjoyment, the first NFC East All-Division
Team of 2011:
Quarterback: Michael Vick (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/2549/michael-vick), Eagles
Running back: LeSean McCoy (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/12514/lesean-mccoy), Eagles
Wide receiver: DeSean Jackson (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/11283/desean-jackson), Eagles; Hakeem Nicks (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/12586/hakeem-nicks), Giants
Tight end: Jason Witten (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/4527/jason-witten), Cowboys
Fullback: Mike Sellers (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/1686/mike-sellers), Redskins
Left tackle: Jason Peters (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/6012/jason-peters), Eagles
Left guard: David Diehl (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/4618/david-diehl), Giants
Center: David Baas (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/8447/david-baas), Giants
Right guard: Chris Snee (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/5559/chris-snee), Giants
Right tackle: Kareem McKenzie (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/2627/kareem-mckenzie), Giants
Defensive end: Justin Tuck (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/8488/justin-tuck), Giants; Trent Cole (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/8560/trent-cole), Eagles
Defensive tackle: Cullen Jenkins (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/5009/cullen-jenkins), Eagles; Jay Ratliff (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/8638/jay-ratliff), Cowboys
Outside linebacker: DeMarcus Ware (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/8426/demarcus-ware), Cowboys; Brian Orakpo (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/12439/brian-orakpo), Redskins
Inside linebacker: London Fletcher (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/1680/london-fletcher), Redskins; Bradie James (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/4561/bradie-james), Cowboys
Cornerback: Nnamdi Asomugha (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/4489/nnamdi-asomugha), Eagles; Asante Samuel (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/4578/asante-samuel), Eagles
Safety: Antrel Rolle (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/8423/antrel-rolle), Giants; O.J. Atogwe (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/8480/oshiomogho-atogwe), Redskins
Kicker: Lawrence Tynes (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/3413/lawrence-tynes), Giants
Punter: Steve Weatherford (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/10127/steve-weatherford), Giants
Kick returner: Brandon Banks (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/4780/brandon-banks), Redskins
Punt returner: Dez Bryant (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/13215/dez-bryant), Cowboys
Brings a couple of things into focus, including the Eagles' depth at cornerback (I actually have Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/11250/dominique-rodgers-cromartie)
third right now behind Asomugha and Samuel) and the answer to the
question of who's got the division's best offensive line (Giants, with
current winners at four of the five spots).
Tough calls? Miles Austin (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/10147/miles-austin) isn't far behind Nicks and Jackson on the wide receiver list, and Jeremy Maclin (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/12579/jeremy-maclin)
and Dez Bryant loom as potential challengers for those spots down the
road. Diehl won out at left guard because there wasn't much else there
to go on and I'm giving the benefit of the doubt to the guy who played
tackle last year. I have my eye on Kory Lichtensteiger (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/11342/kory-lichtensteiger), Evan Mathis (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/8493/evan-mathis) and Dallas rookie Bill Nagy (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/14096/bill-nagy) to see what happens there. Went with Atogwe over Kenny Phillips (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/11265/kenny-phillips)
for Landry's safety spot because I just haven't seen what I expected to
see from Phillips yet. And I kept Bryant in at punt returner because
(a) I don't think Jackson is going to handle those duties in Philly this
year and (b) while I don't know if Dallas will use Bryant there, I
don't think they've ruled it out yet. If the Eagles use Jackson to
return punts Sunday, I'll almost certainly switch that up next week.
Weatherford won out in a close call over Mat McBriar (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/5096/mat-mcbriar),
and Tynes won at kicker because it looks as if he'll be ready to go
Sunday and the competition... not real strong at that spot in our little
division.

I know, I am worried to. I feel you are right with a majority of the stuff you say about Eli and the way you approach things. Sometimes I think you are a little overboard as well. But it's just every day all day. Give him a chance to play a game. Let's see if he will really do what he says he will and what you want him to do. Seems to be the same thing. He will probably be passing alot this year.

Still looking to dump off Romo, otherwise I'll sit on him, I won't start him unless Kolb has a bye week.
looking for WR's in return...really looking to package Romo and Moss together because I hate both of them.
That said I'm not giving them away for nothing, look at Rankings and Projected numbers...try to keep it close..I won't care if it favors you a little....but no Rank 70+ people for Romo whose 30 straight up please (unless you think I like them and value them higher then i should ala B. Jacobs :P)

lol im just saying, u wasting that value hurts urself i dont care.
So instead of it hurting just me you'd rather me trade him for some back up receiver that isn't going to help me at all and make someones team too strong? what good does that do?
I will sit Romo and at least he won't help anyone else beat me...
He's gonna rack up a ton of points I can't believe noone is willing to give up a starting receiver for him...I guess ya'll hate the cowboys just as much as me.
I want to get rid of Romo and Moss...I'm willing to make a deal that's better for you then me....but I'm not gonna be ridiculous about it....that's all I'm saying...(I wouldn't mind putting Miles Austin in that trade either)
If anyone can come up with a trade that rids me of Romo and Moss...doesn't include AP or Hillis and gives me back at least 1 WR (two if you want Austin also) I'll take it as long as the rankings and projections aren't wildly off....even if it's bad for me.

The trade has already been made. We already said that no trade can be ruled unfair as long is it's not horrible. This trade is fair in my eyes. Cutler and Romo is a pretty big gap but Austin for Marshall and Boldin is fair. It helps Matt alot and Daven is just blinded by hate. Pretty dumb on his part. Romo will be a top 5 QB. And yes Matt, you do have 3 top 10 QBs but you can only play one.

1 QB (Romo, Peyton, Freeman)

You know about it now. I don't want it to go through either but by the rules that were established last year it has to go through. The only argument could be that Matt gave up less but we won't know until the end of the year. Marshall and Boldin could both equal Miles totals by themselves. They are both #1 receivers. Cutler could also get close to Romo. There is also injury and so many intangibles. I am the biggest crybaby when it comes to stuff like this ( as you all say ) but I think this seems ok to me. Daven is losing on the trade for sure but it was the best he thought he could get. You talked to Daven on Facebook yesterday MH so you knew he was dealing.

You don't have to be consulted about trades that other people are going to make...
If someone is dumb enough to pull the trigger on something then oh well. Survival of the fittest.

Is this true. Did we change the rules from last year?

Yes, after the whole Beanie Wells thing last year. Unless you think someone is cheating or it's just too crazy.
Cutler could have as many fantasy points as Romo.
Austin and Moss vs Boldin and Marshall could turn out the same way.
On that basis alone it is fair. We don't know what is going to happen MH. Matt could be getting the shaft for all we know.

Cutler has no chance to have as many points as Romo, unless Romo gets hurt. Its true that we don't know the future, but you must see my point....

All trades are based on each player doing what he/she thinks is right for their team. Thats why you shouldn't challenge them unless their is something else going on here. In this case, THERE IS.

Daven drafted a top player and now is willing to give him away because he plays for the Cowboys. Well if this was a problem, he should have showed up for the friggin draft.

He is not trying to help his team. he is intentionally hurting his team because he won't play Romo.

I have a problem with that. We all know the throw in players don't matter much. Matt, is getting the two best players in the deal. As a matter of fact, Moss outperformed both, Boldin and Marshall last year so he's getting the three best players in the deal.

Morehead State
09-07-2011, 04:52 PM
And Lando I can't believe you would compare Romo to Cutler. Romo is a 4500 yard, 30 TD guy and Cutler won't even get drafted in some leagues.
I didn't compare them. Romo is way better in my eyes and will probably be a top 5 QB. I just said that Cutler could finish close to him. I see where you are coming from but we don't know what is going to happen during the year. Do I think it will happen, no. Could it happen? Yes
Besides,
You said yesterday you had the best team in the league, what are you worried about?

I was just talking smack. I have no idea who has the best team...Until now. Its Matt. Why? Because Daven isn't showing good faith with the rest of the league.

I was negotiating. I would have gone Rivers and any WR other than Jackson or Johnson for Romo and Austin.

And the deal you made with Matt, kills your team and makes Matt the favorite. Thats hard to do given his lack of FF ability. You would have done better to give me AP and Romo for Rivers and Stevie.

2011 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

person

Greg Jones, LB, Michigan St.

Michigan State Spartans inside linebacker Greg Jones is a highly-productive prospect who was outstanding at the college level, but due to a number of problems in his technique and style of play, he may need to switch positions at the next level.
Jones accumulated 464 tackles in his four years as a Spartan. In 2009, he had a great year with 153 total tackles and 9 sacks. Jones plays fast and can be difficult to block when he's attacking the quarterback. His strong-suit may simply be his ability to bring down the ball-carrier. He is a violent tackler. He is playing at his best when everything is in front of him as he is a natural downhill linebacker.
The issues come when he must drop back into coverage. He is capable of handling tight ends and running backs on short routes as he plays sideline-to-sideline very well. But he plays very tight in his hips when dropping back into coverage and due to his stature, he isn't effective at defending the deep middle part of the field (which will be his main priority as an inside linebacker).
When he gets engaged by a blocker, he can be engulfed rather easily. If he's unable to find the edge, he gets eaten up and taken out of the play. Often times, he plays without regard to his assignment and is too aggressive.
Jones has a healthy mix of good and bad attributes and depending on the defensive scheme, many teams may overlook him since he does not fit what they need their linebackers to do. At the 2011 NFL Combine, he ran a lackluster 4.80 40-yard dash. It will be very hard for teams to ignore the fact he was a three-time first-team selection to the All Big Ten Team and two-time All-American.
Jones projects as a third or fourth round selection in the 2011 NFL Draft.

On Sunday, John Michael Vincent of ESPN 1070 in Indianapolis reported that Colts quarterback Peyton Manning (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/1493/peyton-manning) needs another surgical procedure on his neck (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/09/04/indy-radio-host-says-peyton-needs-another-neck-procedure/).
Though the team kind-of/sort-of indirectly denied it, JMV was at least
in the right church (even if occupying the wrong pew), given the flurry
of reports and developments that followed JMV’s information.

Now, another Indianapolis radio host is upping the ante.

Jake Query of WNDE, citing two unnamed sources whom he trusts,
reports that Manning already has had another procedure on his neck, and
that he’ll miss the entire 2011 season (http://twitter.com/#%21/jakequery).

Manning’s status remains cloaked in mystery, in part because the team
is likely sharing the bare minimum — and in part because the condition
from which he suffers involves complex neurological issues that can’t be
addressed by taking two aspirin or “wanting it.” But with afternoon
drive-time host in Manning’s home market reporting that Manning’s
condition is far more serious than currently believed, it’s not too
early to at least consider whether we’ll see Manning play at all in
2011.

But I will leave it to her on the trades.

I just didn't know that we changed the rules from last year. But its dropped as far as I'm concerned.

eh it depends. If he is that high on Kolb it could be. He does have 2 starting WRs and personally I didn't want to lose Marshall. I think Marshall getsback on track this year

Don't bull**** a bull****ter.

but i think we have to go over the trade rules to clear it all up
A) I thought we were going to let Blondie put trades thru on her arm
B) Only time we don't is if there is an uproar and think that somebody is cheating

interesting that bull****ter isnt' blocked out
I disagree. Cutler was a backup QB for him becuase he wnats to go with Kolb
Plus he had Chicagos goalline back
and he has 2 good receivers. I dont care waht the numbers say last year, i'll put money on it that both Marshall and Boldin have better years than Moss
Infact if your so high on moss lets work something out
Romo & Moss 4 Rivers

Boldin I won't even take a guess as to how he will do, but I think Marshall is in for a better year than last, for sure. 2nd year with QB, bound to be better. for Daven's sake, hopefully he has more TDs this year, his yardage was ok I suppose though for a new team with a no frills QB

something shady going on in chicago....knox got knocked back on the deptha chart as soon as they got Roy Williams. didn't make much sense to me considering Knox has been getting better by the year....and Roy, not so much.
they seem to think Roy will be a possession receiver for them kind of...

He could have gone on the waiver wire and got a better QB.

Personally i think Cutler could have a pretty good comeback season...

so do i
He has a chip on his shoulder and he get Roy Williams there plus a goalline and short yardage back in Barber which was a huge issue for them last year

Roy Williams may be released before the season ends. He's done.

Last year was Cutler's comeback season. Got off to a good start but faded. No talent around him.

He's be a good FF QB if he was on another team.

Fans just think making a tackle is easy.

It takes alot to put an opponent down on the turf, yes you are right. Nothing great about chasing a player down after a 25 yard gain.

But the point is Middle Linebackers should be in on a good majority of plays on defense. Some of the best Mike Linebackers in this game average about 125-180 tackles a season. That's putting your work in to say the least.

Over or Under

Greg Jones 6 tackles this Sunday.

who cares... i want tackles for loss

yea...the more tackles a LB has, to me means the D-line isn't stopping the run good enough(blitzes aside), so matt is right...

tackle stats arent good judges of performance.

That's not entirely true.

If your playing the Mike position you are in on almost every play.

A good Mike linebacker should have atleast over 100 tackles in a season.

Tackles for losses are a bonus...

its just not true, if a MLB has alot of tackles but they are 5 yards down field - its not a good thing
but then again u could have a ton of tackles that happen at the line of scrimmage and don't get considered for losses and there just as good.
tackles just don't tell any story, but i guess i would prefer the number to be high

That's putting your work in to say the least.

again, if most of those tackles are 5 yards down field - its not really an effective stat

effective stat or not, try taking down a guy who is getting paid to go around or through you.
