Flex: Kase, Lawl, Pats, Morehead, Scrappy, Sharick.................. No flex: MMB. Blondie, Byron, Pizzey, Lando................. Waiting for LT. ................6-5 Flex right now.

then it's 6/6 because I remember matt saying he got a text from LT saying no flex.

and mind u if that was the case we give Commish the 1.5 votes for even tiebreakers.
so its not flex
Its flex. The question now is 3 WR plus flex or 2 WR plus flex. This is a riot, I only voted flex because I didn't want 3 WR. I would have voted no flex if I thought we could still do 3 WR.

I highly disagree on that, I think WRs are too stacked to only have a mandatory two receivers.

So that means u just go RB heavy and then u can still get a WR like Reggie Wayne or STevie Johnson as your WR2...

no stratagy, no skill, it kills the game. FORCE people to have to account for 3 WRs and the RB power won't exist

There is no REASON to go RB heavy Matt, WR's and RB's are interchangeable neither gives you significantly more Fantasy points anymore, RB's used to, but not anymore...and your "Wr's are deeper" argument doesn't come into effect unless we have like 20+ teams....people are going to have their starting lineup finished before you have to worry about the depth on WR or RB running out and having to use a **** player.

whats the difference? Nothing should change by your theory. U just take a stab at WRs since its luck and play for RBs if it lands

when you have WR3s out there like Reggie WAyne and STevie Johnson caliber that u could easily put in at WR2, u don't have to worry baout RB.. make sure u get the pick of the litter at RB and let WR go to the back burner. Its what most would do. ESPECIALLY in a year where RB talent is not deep

RB Talent is consistent with WR Talent up until around 40 players deep each, that's 80 picks not counting QB's/TE's/Defenses/Kickers

there aren't enough picks in the draft for the depth of WR's OR RB's to totally run out...you want to pick high on RB's first...it's not a bad idea, but your top WR's are then going to suffer.

the drop from AP to a #35 RB is the same as the drop from Calvin Johnson to a #35 WR nowadays.

the drop from AP to a #60 RB IS worse then the drop from Calvin Johnson to a #60 WR I agree....but seeing as we aren't going to pick that many RB's or WR's as a league I don't see how that matters.

this said if you keep arguing with me Matt I'm gonna flip on my 3WR vote lol.

the only one who changed a vote was MH.

we were voting on flex or no flex then Matt introduced a compromise between the two, 3 WR but ALSO a Flex.

I just want larger rosters so we go deeper into the players...so I'll vote for that, but if its not that I want 2RB/2WR+Flex.

I think I gotta go with 6, just to keep a balance of people waiting on QBs and going for RBs and WRs. More strategic...

</p>

4 vs 6 pts drastically changes the "value" of the QB position as a whole.</p>

</p>

QB's get WAY more TD's then Rb's or WR's or TE's ...obviously, so to make having a really good QB not so mandatory 4 pts is the way to go in my opinion, 6 pts makes it so if you don't have a top notch QB you lose...even if you had a good one and lost him to injury it's almost like your season is over (unless you find Cam Newton lol)</p>

I'm not going to complain eitherway I'll just make sure to draft a qb early if it's 6 pts,

okay PIzz, if u want the 12 spot your in...

BUT, when we league vote, the rule we stuck to was whoever played in the league last year gets to vote. So even though Pizz was in two years ago, he doesn't get voting priviledges. Pats was in the first league, then he even played in the B LEAGUE the next year, and we still didn't let him vote last year. Just remaining consistant.

The vote was YES to standard with votes from ME, Amanda, Pappy, Lando, Byron and LT vs Lawl, Kase, Daven, Pats, sharick...

then i decided that since it was so close to vote the compromise of 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 1 TE, and 1 Flex vs Standard

Pappy then flipped to Flex making the initial vote Flex.

Now we are voting on 2 WR flex or 3 WR flex.

Pizz does not have a vote this time around, staying consistent

Too much Kush for this tish.... I vote for 2WR, 2RB regular-*** missionary style 1 flex (RB/WR) FF

now call me crazy....but why would someone have voted standard if they knew that that this 2nd vote would essentially open up the SAME EXACT ****ing option. </P>

the way I see it, the flex spot already devalues RB selections cuz traditionally you want the consistency from RBs...if you have 3 WRs already, who is going to start a 4th WR in the flex spot?? nobody. These votes essentially FORCE extra RBs on your roster no matter what the decision is....</P>

THIS is what happened.

3WR vs 2WR=Flex was in the middle of being voted on and Matt came up with a "compromise" 3 WR + Flex

I mentioned I would like that...so what we did was we finished the 3WR vs 2WR+Flex vote...

2WR+Flex won.

then after that Matt started ANOTHER separate vote, that vote was to see if we as a league should accept the compromise Matt came up with instead of the regular 2WR+Flex that we had just decided upon.

you can go for the 3 RBs, but then your WRs will take a serious hit. It plays into the stats that Daven was saying yesterday (which he over exaggerated though, but the main point was correct).

You can't disregard WRs with a 3 WR flex like u can with the 2 WR flex, it has to be accounted for.

You can also use TEs as a Flex

MattMeyerBud
07-18-2012, 09:41 AM
and the compromise is that people wanted flex because they say its more strategic, i was against 2 WR flex because WRs and everybody can just go 3 RBs right away because WRs are so deep. Go look at some of the projected WR3s and tell me they wouldn't be just as good as WR 2s...

I would say even WR4s are pretty stacked this year

Let me translate what you just said here:

"You have to use a 3rd RB regardless of your original plan."</P>

because Matt, if you have 3 WR already, then there will be no players left to play, unless you happen to be extremely high on Ramses Barden this year or something. Youre really stretching for like 4th string WRs, it just aint happening.
The only saving grace here is that teams are using more RBs....but that just means less production from individual players overall.

They shouldnt call this fantasty football, they should call it "good luck fielding a team" football. lol</P>

then after that Matt started ANOTHER separate vote, that vote was to see if we as a league should accept the compromise Matt came up with instead of the regular 2WR+Flex that we had just decided upon.

that vote was pretty unanimous there was enough votes from the people here at the time that it was passed.[/QUOTE]

OK thanks for the clarification

Im def gonna try and go sometime this season, since work is slowing down for a month or so I can pretty much take off whenever I want as long as I give a few days notice. every time I refresh it seems to take at least 10-15 times longer then the old forums, I also dislike the way it looks, and I've been trying to put up a profile picture and sig and I'm having the same problems....the site is constantly timing out and just slow...and it's not my Internet here at work because everything else is working perfectly fine.

Happens all the time. As has been previously discussed, real sports "Dynasties" last over many, many years, usually well more than 10 and can even stretch over decades. Fake dynasties (with low standards) are 4 or 5 years with 3 championships. To me thats a good run. The Montreal canadians of the fifties thru the seventies, the Boston Celtics of the 50's and 60's, or the Yankees from the 20's thru the early sixties.
You kids today drive me nuts!!!

No way of knowing. The Canadians had their dynasty because of an unfair advantage in that they got the first two Canadian born draft picks every season. The Yankees, Sox and a few other teams have an advantage because they have much more money to spend because of their TV markets and MLB's unwillingness to share revenues enough to create balance. The NFL has it right with a hard cap (now the NBA too) and real revenue sharing so in the NFL its tough. The only exception might be the Pats. If they win 2 more championships in the next 3 years or so, one could argue that they are a dynasty, starting in 2000.

I misspoke yesterday....although the Yankees had one of the most impressive runs in baseball of the past 50 years, the Chicago Bulls were the last true Dynasty in my eyes.
The only thing that could stop the 90-98 Bulls...? Michael Jordan retiring twice.....

as you said, this has been previously discussed...

I forgot the specifics maybe you could enlighten us on the topic, I was pretty sure that in "thee thread" a dynasty was of course 3 championships in a short period of time?

Also perhaps we could discuss the topic of Champions and "reigning" Champs?
Thats because in most aspects of life, pop culture has lowered the standards for just about everything. A true sports dynasty must come over an extended period of time. To me, the closest thing recently was the 20 year run of the 49'rs. But in my view it still fell short. 3 championships in 4 years is a great run. The Bulls of the 90's was a great run. But a true dynasty is a far greater accomplishment.
There have really only been a very few true sports dynasties. The Yankees from the 20's into the 60's, the Canadians from the 50's into the 70's, the Celtics of the 50's and 60's and UCLA basketball in the John Wooden era.
If the Sox managed to win 3 more championships over the next 15 years, while maintaining a high level of play, that would qualify in my book. If the Giants managed to do the same, with the 2 championships we already, that would too. But in today's mediocre standards, there will be those who will continue to refer to short runs of success as "dynasties". And they will mostly be Democrats.
Hahaha!!!!!

no way...the sox would have to win like 5 more championships to compensate for their irellevance as of late. and thats just not in your deck of cards right now. i would not consider that a dynasty at all.

Championships are certainly a major component, but its also a consistent excellence as well. These "down" years for the Sox are still winning seasons. 90-72 and 89-73 are not losing seasons. The Giants have been 8-8 twice recently. It would be tough to call the Giants a true dynasty if they won 2 or 3 more in the next 10 years unless they play better than they have in the regular season. Quite honestly, what we got in 2 championships came in 2, 4 game runs in the playoffs. Both those regular seasons were very up and down.
And you can call the Bullsa dynasty if you want, but they aren't be my standards. No one would argue that those were great teams, but the time was very short.

A sports dynasty is what it is. It is what its always been. Because conditions in today's sports leagues have changed, doens't mean that the definition of a sports dynasty changes.
A sports dynasty is still an excellence and dominance over a long period of time. Unless the definitions of "long period of time" or "excellence and dominance" change with the rules of the games, your point is moot.
The reality is that its just a lot harder to have a sports dynasty anymore. You can't move the goal posts closer Daven. Or are you one of those guys who thinks everyone should get a trophy even if they finish last?

I think the definition of a long period of time in sports HAS changed, that's what I'm getting at.

you say a sports dynasty is what it is and what it's always been...you say just because the condition in today's sports leagues have changed doesn't mean that the definition should/can change.

but that's an opinion, not a statement of fact.

our constitution is constantly changing (not that it's something I like but it is) if that's changing whose to say the definition of dynasty can't, in fact most words mean different things now then they meant years ago.

I think the definition of Dynasty can change to fit today's conditions.

you say you can't move the goal closer, but suppose for some reason the force of Gravity some how got stronger...wouldn't you have to lower a basketball hoop to make it fair? you can move the goal closer if conditions warrant it.

To buy your analogy, (moving the basket lower to make it more fair) one would have to suggest that someone is being treated unfairly. Its not "unfair" to anyone that a "dynasty" is what it is. Its not unfair to win a championship and not call that a "one year dynasty".
One would also have to say that since there is free agency and salary caps, that time and space have changed. That the definition of "extended period of time" has somehow changed. That time itself has been bent by some force of physics. Well it hasn't. 10 years is still 3652 days. 20 years is still 20 years, The time contunuum hasn't changed because Kurt Flood sued MLB.
Its like you are saying that we still deserve to have dynasties...its our right...so we need to change the definition.

well here is what wiki says: A sports (http://boards.giants.com/wiki/Sport) dynasty is a team that dominates their sport or league for multiple seasons (http://boards.giants.com/wiki/Season_(sports)) or years. Such dominance is often only realized in retrospect. Some leagues maintain official lists of dynasties, often as part of a hall of fame (http://boards.giants.com/wiki/Hall_of_fame) (e.g., National Hockey League (http://boards.giants.com/wiki/National_Hockey_League)), but in many cases, whether a team has achieved a dynasty is often subjective (http://boards.giants.com/wiki/Subjectivity), and can be a frequent topic of debate among sports fans (http://boards.giants.com/wiki/Fan_(person)). The most widely-accepted sports dynasties are those with multiple championships over a limited period of time, either consecutively with or without interruption (e.g., UCLA Bruins men's basketball (http://boards.giants.com/wiki/UCLA_Bruins_men%27s_basketball) from 1964 to 1975), or non-consecutively (e.g., Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders (http://boards.giants.com/wiki/Oakland_Raiders) of the late 1970s and early 1980s, or the Liverpool (http://boards.giants.com/wiki/Liverpool_F.C.) football team of the 1980s). In a few cases, a dominant team without championships might be recognized as a dynasty (e.g., the Buffalo Bills (http://boards.giants.com/wiki/Buffalo_Bills) of the early 1990s or the Minnesota Vikings (http://boards.giants.com/wiki/Minnesota_Vikings) of the 1970s), though this is likely to be disputed (http://boards.giants.com/wiki/Dynasty_(sports)#Dynasties_in_question).

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/397548-the-ten-most-dominant-dynasties-in-sports-history

I was dead set agianst his hiring so I have no idea what ownership was thinking.
I was 100% behind hiring Sandy Alomar Jr. They hired Valentine probably because they thought he would bring dicipline to the clubhouse. All he's done is act like an outsider and screw up the great chemistry this team had. Yes they had some problems with a few guys drinking beer, but the chemistry of the team was fine. The reason they fell apart last season was because Jon Lester forgot how to pitch. And it seems that he still hasn't remembered this year. And getting rid of Yuke is a tough one. worst Giants signing of all time. We were waiting for Reese to screw up at some point. this was the one. TT was overrated already, and is even more of a injury liability than Bradshaw. ****ing awful.

which dog? mine? Molly was put down the morning before I left for NC.

I was absolutely livid with my father and stepmom for not only making that decision without me, but for not waiting 8 ****ing hours for me to come down and at least spend her last day with me. Like, literally my flight left at 530pm, and they told me at 930am. I didnt talk to my father for almost the entire week i was there unless i absolutely needed to.

It was heartbreaking....it really was.

To make things worse, my step mom got another bull mastiff less than a month later. couple weeks ago.....you can really tell they care, right? damn JP ....sorry

damn JP ....sorry

Thanks. It's ok though...I forgot to write that she did in fact have bone cancer....so I honeslty WOULD HAVE made the same decision obviously...but I mean....I just felt really cheated that I wasn't there. Just another way my father shows his selfishness.

We live and die by Elis arm and our fleet of WRs.

yea it's bull****, right? I dont like Thomas....his inability to play causes that dislike....

How is it the worst signing by Reese? There was no way of knowing that Thomas would have gotten injured again, even though we all had our doubts. The contract is to the Giants advantage. Now that Thomas season and career is in jeopardy, the Giants only have to pay about 2 million this season, and cut him.
There was no way the Giants were going to match the Jaguars offer to Ross ( three-year, $9.75 million contract) This is why we drafted Prince last year, and Hosely this season. It's time for guys to step up and be ready to play some significant time this season.

Mine was instantanious but probably because I had the same email address. I understand that your old name was under a close email account. That probably put a monkey wrench into it.

I doubt Rolle will be at corner. We were litterally out of corners last season when Rolle was pressed into nickel duty. While the loss of TT is tough for him, our defense won't miss a beat. We rely on our pass rush and playmaking ability in the secondary.
And our team does not rely on the arm of Eli. Lots of good players on this team. Your low opinion of the New York Giants, especially after winning a SB is mind boggling.
