unrelated to this particular election.....

how is our electoral system so completely ****ed up? Every other democracy in the world has a better way than us. We let local governments choose how to report votes, what machines to use, and decide on certain exceptions(whether polls stay open for lines etc.)....

Other places have agencies do it. impartial non-govt agencies. they all use the same machines.

for such a great country, we sure do suck at this.
We are a nation of states. Its the essence of our Federalism. Its a country of over 300MM people.
The problem with the electoral system here is the winner take all nature of the states. Its not the electoral collge really. They should vote by congressional districts and award the two Senate electors to the winner of the states.
Far more democratic.

To me its not the electoral college. Its the winner take all system. If Candidate A wins Ohio by 5000 votes, he gets all 18 electoral votes. The electoral votes a state gets are determined by the total congressional districts plus 2 Senate seats.
What they need to do award electoral votes by congressional district and give the 2 votes from the senate seats to the winner of the state.
It still empowers the states while being more democratic.
Romney could actually win the popular vote by a lot and still lose the election.

I agree it could work BETTER that way, but idk...

any change and this country would be in a uproar about "fraud"

well its not easy to change. It has to happen state to state, because its the states that decide how to apportion their electors. Maine and Nebraska (I believe) have similar systems to what I described.
States are reluctant to do it because it devalues the impact of the state elections. And of course the spending in that state by campaigns.

oh btw, i disagree with the senate vote you were referring to. (unless im misreading)
If the popular votes are going to the republican candidate for example, than in this particular area, that one electoral vote should instantly say RED.....if another area does the opposite, BLUE. Aside from determining the number of electoral votes each state gets, the senators and congressman should have NO role in this.

Well, that's a fine line of supression vs. voter fraud. we know the stats. And there is very very little voter fraud. Mistakes like 12348902384x more common than fraud.

The US Patriot Act is what put way too much focus on IDs. I'm fairly well educated on this topic actually, as it's a huge part of banking. Can't have bank accounts unless you can be properly IDed, and it's a small list of acceptable documentation. When youre a registered vote, you are on a massive searchable database. One that i just used this morning to see where I vote today (they changed it since last election).

There are numerous ways to identify people, and more gov't IDs than just state issued ones. They should revisit the laws in some of the states in order to fix this. I had to drag my grandmother to the DMV because she doesn't drive, she's not as mobile as she used to be since shes 86, just so we could get her a non-drivers ID. I know shes voting republican until she dies, even though she probably doesn't even know whos running, but...thats her perogative. lol

oh wait...yes she does. she referred to them as "The black one, and the shady one" lmao. crazy Nana....

No no You misunderstand. The members of Congress have would have no vote. It would just break down to Congressional districts. I am in the first district of Mas. My district will probably go Romney. Maybe the only one. That should be one electoral vote for Mass. Instead its just a statewide election and the winner gets all the electoral votes. thats less democratic.

So In Ohio they have 18 electoral votes, which means they have 16 congressional districts. So if 9 districts go with Romney and 7 with Obama, and Romney wins the total vote in the state, Romney would get 11 electoral votes and Obama 7. The way it is now, Romney would get all 18.

I'm sorta with you Rusty. I've become disenchanted with both political parties believing that they hold too much power and are more interested in just getting the seat as opposed to making actual change without consequence. At this point, I just vote for the candidate who helps me out the most financially. I so envy the European nations that have more than 2 political parties that have actual power.

Obama came into a **** hole from day one and dealt with people not wanting him to succeed as president. He has 4 more years and now they should just come together and turn this country around. I'm sorry I just don't believe that Mitt could have done this. The republicans have to get with the times and realize America is a diverse nation and have to appeal to all people rich, poor, black, white, or whatever. Until they do that they won't win. I'm pretty stoked right now...because to me with most of the senate being democrat he can now get things done without being challenged .

Obama will do more of the same, he will spend too much of our money where it makes has effect on the country, he will continue to raise taxes on Middle Income families...he will still help "his" rich buddies, and nothing of any substance will get done, out national debt in 2016 should be around 22 trillion (it's 16 now and was 10 before he took office)

thank goodness the republicans still have the congress so they can still stop most of his more aggressively destructive policies.

Guys like Matt gloat about this election like its some kind of game. There is no championship, only the execution of policy. The country is all that matters. Politicians come and go, but the country remains.
Right now the country is in a world of hurt. We have a fiscal cliff to deal with in 7 weeks. There would have been an easy deal to remedy if Romney had been elected. Now with Obama and his declaration that he will NOT extend the Bush era tax cuts takes away any hope of compromise.
The House will undoubtedly pass a bill to make the tax cuts permanent. The Senate will have to actually pass a bill to response.

The political war will be a nightmare for the country.

Obama did a nice job of portraying Romney as something he's not. I know because he was my governor, Romney is a fiscal conservative and a social moderate. Its not "the party". Its the nuts in "the party". The base of the GOP ****ed up this election. They are like the Dems were in the 70's and 80's. The nuts in that party created guys like George Mcgovern and Walter Mondale.
In this case we actually had a socially moderate and a guy with a moderate temperment, bu the Dems framed his as something he's not. Romney did a poor job of defending himself. To be honest, one of the problems with Romney is that his religion teaches humility. He will never tell you of the kindness he's always lived his life with. He's actually a very fine man.

that's all I heard from most women I know, he wants to take my choice away, he wants me to be a lesser citizen....he never wanted either of those things...socially he was quite moderate...but no one on the left knows that because they believed the propaganda, left and right...both sides are sheep, it's terrible, but it is what it is, when we eventually lose control of the situation here we will have no one to blame but ourselves...we had the ability to fix things for the better through the democratic process and we choose to ignore it and just vote for the "cool guy"

this is the point where I have finally recognized that the President really isn't elected due to policy...it is pure and simple a popularity contest...the majority of America clearly does not care about what a presidential candidate stands for, they only care if he's "cool" it's like the majority of America is still in High School.

The Dems did a good job of scaring women regarding that. It actually might have been the difference. I blame Rick Santorum for that.

I said that to every single women/girl that repeated that talking point, doesn't matter, once they talked about their "choice" their brains literally shut down, there was no convincing them that it couldn't happen...it's like logic ceased to exist in their worlds once that topic was brought up.

kinda contradictingSorry, was late last night and I didn't put it in words well. What I mean is, i didn't like either candidate. I didn't think our best chance as a nation rested with them.

But that's how it works. Who ever has the most money behind them, backing by the right people, pushing the right agenda etc... They are the ones who get in. I feel like there are people who want what's best for the country. but unfortunately there are MORE who will just buy into what they think will benefit themselves. I see this happening more and more these days. Regardless of which side. That's the sad part of democracy imo.

I dont really watch MSNBC....

ok, here's the difference between networks:
MSNBC knows they are liberal. It's no hidden secret.

Fox News was literally created as a spin-off(to use a television term) of the Republican Party, yet still uses "Fair and balanced" as their motto. I mean for ****s sake, their motto isn't even fair and balanced as it's a blatant lie, so what does that say?

CNN is the damn closest you can get to moderate, of course 75% of republicans will argue that, since they arent slobbing gop knob. Is it more liberal? yea, i'd guess the majority of their team is, with the exception of the 2 gentlemen whos names escape me at the moment, who are part of their regular political panel during the election shows. I'll be honest, i don't watch often enough to know who is who, and what each person's position is....

What are you talking about? Rove only suggested they should not have called it that early. The only numbers any one was using was the live vote from the Ohio Secretary of State.

I don't think I have it backwards...I think you have fallen prey to propaganda, that said it's over now, you'll find out you who Obama really during the next 4 years....some of us just take a little longer to see the truth.

It's kinda funny, everyone I know at work who voted for him keep saying the same thing, "now that he doesn't have to worry about re-election he can get things done" people still believe after his 4 years of complete and utter incompetence as a president that it was "Bush's fault" or that "the republican's blocked him" or that "He needed to compromise because he needs a second term"

you guys can make sooo many excuses for your guy...ever think that maybe he's just not fit to be running the country? nope never...that never even enters your thought process, well maybe after 4 more years of him doing nothing but spending money on bankrupt companies and giving it to his friends in green industries and the unions while nothing gets accomplished (most of all Jobs won't be created) you will see or you will ignore it I guess...who knows I don't care, because enough people will notice.

I suppose it sucks to be ahead of the curve :( I have to sit here knowing 100% for certain that Obama is in WAY over his head while he has a small majority of America still convinced he has a clue about what he's doing, I seriously can't believe how forgiving and delusional American voters are...it's really shocking...that's the scary part about his re-election...not that he's going to hurt the country more (which he is) but that people are so uninformed that they don't know that...that's the scary part.

We couldn't even tackle last week. You know what that is? lack of effort. We made a backup RB look like a future hall of famer.

Now, on offense, that's lack of execution. Unless youre Bradshaw, in which case you dont even have the ability....

Right...So a road game in Cincy is far more motivating than a home game, in front of fans who have been devastated by a Hurricane, against the Steelers,
There are only 16 games. The effort and "shoulder chip" shouldn't vary. Its not like its baseball.

yeah its like the giants are the best team in the universe and as long as they execute they're going to win....and also its like that rule doesn't apply to apposing teams....like they are not out there trying to do the same things, one being win the game... off days and poor performances are going to happen.... none of us like it ! I came to scary realization today, looking back over the last year, year and a half, I think unemployment is why Obama won, the more people who are unemployed the more people will vote for things like Government Run Health care and increased unemployment benefits food stamps etc etc etc....social programs right? because the more people who are unemployed the more people are going to need those problems.

you and me morehead...we know the way out is to have a job..and we both have jobs, what people without jobs want is relief from the situation, to them Romney talking about social programs being cut...it makes them feel insecure..like he's going to take something away from them, they don't understand that the cuts in programs like those won't have any effect on them at all and that the cuts will also allow for lower taxes and thus more jobs...eventually getting them much needed jobs that will get them out of the situation they are in....but they can't think like that, all they can think about is how they need help "right now" and that's the social programs Obama is pushing.

The problem with that is Obama (and the Democratic party in general) support these social programs way more then republicans...and because they do it actually benefits the Democratic side if more and more people become unemployed, it's a GOOD thing for democrats for unemployment to go up....it sounds crazy but that seems to be the case.

TL : DR version for Pezz and others.

Republican's want to cure unemployment so Social Programs aren't needed (or at least not as much)
Democrat's want to make it so Social Programs can support everyone who needs them.

the problem is, Democratic ideals don't "solve" the situation, they just make the situation more bearable short term, while bankrupting the country, It actually benefits Democrat's to "create" unemployment...and as we all know politicians will do "anything" to gain an advantage.

It's not, when we can afford to do it, right now the money that goes towards helping people is being taken from business's those business's can not hire people because they have to pay for these social programs, it's a chicken or the egg situation, if the social programs weren't taking so much money from these companies then these companies would be hiring more people and less people would need these social programs.

Your assumption is that people are lazy and just want handouts.

Just stop Pezz, nobody believes this, this is just propaganda, this is what they tell you we think, no one actually believes that so stop acting like anyone does.

You speak as if the democrats ruined the economy, and losing people's jobs FOR THEM, and that businesses had no part of it.

All I'm saying is that it's beneficial for their re-elections for less people to have jobs...so it would make sense for them to put policies in place that would make it difficult for Companies to hire...and that seems to be what has been happening for the last 4 years.

**** man....what would you do if you lost your job, couldnt get another, and your parents were in the same situation, and you had nothing to fall back on? It could not happen, I would always be able to find a job so this is an impossible situation, that's not me being conceited either, I've held over 10 different jobs over the course of my working life and have gotten every single job I wanted I've also been offered jobs as recently as last year from other companies and turned them down just because it couldn't happen to me or anyone in my family doesn't mean I don't feel for the people it can happen to though.

idk man....i think alot of ppl just never realize how good they have it. We as a country are much better off helping people who need it, KNOWING that there are going to be ppl who abuse the system, than just doing nothing at all for the people who legitimately need help.

what you don't understand Pezz is that I WANT to help people, I want to help people really badly...but the way to help them is to get them jobs...not give them food stamps.

Food Stamps/Welfare/Health care...these are the REASONS jobs are being lost and less jobs are being created.

Romney wanted to help these people out of the situation they are in, he wanted to make it so less people were dependent on the government systems.

Obama (and Dem's in Washington) want as many people as possible to be unemployed...because when they are unemployed they are dependent on welfare and food stamps...**** is like heroin, Dem's push the heroin (social programs) to keep people under their control, they do this at the expense of jobs...if they didn't push the social programs so hard then companies would have more money...to hire more people...thus fewer people would need the social programs...fewer people dependent on social programs means fewer guaranteed votes to the Dem's though, so as long as they are in control it won't happen...Job Growth is Democratic kryptonite.

Jobs are NOT being created.
It takes 150,000 new jobs every month to keep up with population growth.
There have been about 4MM new jobs created since the tunraround. Not since Obama because president, those nukbers are horrific.
So it takes 1.8MM/year to break even and in the last 3 1/2 years they have averaged 95,000 jobs.
Now combine that with the historical facts that after a recession , jobs increase at a much greater rate.
In a normal economy we should have about 200,000 new jobs average per month. In a recovery that number should be about 400,000.
Obama's numbers are 95,000.
Its a horrific record.

I will say this and you may not agree. There have been a lot of recriminations within the GOP about Mitt Romney. Well he had to navigate a crazy GOP primary. It was said this morning on morning Joe. They put cement shoes on him and then blamed him for sinking.

My point is that Romney would have been a truly great President. A solid fiscal hawk and a social moderate. Its the old "be careful what you ask for" deal. Now these folks have it. I don't think less of people because they disagree with me on politics at all. My two step-daughters disagree with me on a lot when it comes to politics. We have very intense debates about politics and love and respect each other for our knowledge of the issues of the day.
Some folks think arguing involves some disapproval of each other. i don't. Its two sides of the same coin. To me there are two kinds of people in this case. Those who give a **** and take the time to educate themselves, and those who don't.

now as far as Matt's behavior is concerned. That was totally classless. And I told him on Facebook. Its not a game. Its the future of the country.

This...soo much this!

My sister is very much a liberal and we argue about politics every time I get to see her at some point we will end up having an argument over politics...It's actually refreshing...It's nice to see what an intelligent educated person opinions are when they differ from my own.

and to your point that me and Morehead always agree on this Jpezz...you are incorrect, me and Morehead do not always agree when it comes to political beliefs...so much so that he genuinely likes Romney...he thinks he was a good candidate, I don't, I think he was a crappy candidate and I'm upset with the Republican party for not finding someone better to run.

that said what we do agree on is that 4 more years of Obama's spending is as close to a death sentence as you can get for our nations economy.

What kind of TV you looking for? Haha ...I was looking for a 26 inch picture tube square tv...I built our entertainment center years ago to take the TV we had at the time....opening is 31x31 ....Nobody in this area had tube TV's any more....long story short we ended up buying a wide screen which gives us the same viewing area but its a rectangular 16 x 32 when measured diagonally...While I've used to it it looks a little funny in the cabinet it doesn't fill the hole as nice as the old tuber....the next size up in the wide screen just wouldn't fit.....it is what it is I guess the entertainment center in staying so we will live with the misfit wide screen ....Hell I like the wide screen just wish I could have gotten the next size up in there

yeah I guess it hard for me to separate his style form his stubborn streak....you have to be able to bend a little maybe admit the game plans need to be tweaked when things aren't working ...He may well be making adjustments and I could be soaking wet but if he is its hard to see them ....As far as Osi goes I was only agreeing with the statement nothing more nothing less....And by the way I'm pulling for TC and hope he get things figured out and gets these guys playing good football....other wise what have we got ?

I'll add this Dezz I really shouldn't be judging TC , its just right and I've never even met the man....And really he's probably doing all the things I think he's not to right the ship...I'm just frustrated with this season after season let down ...Probably these players just needed a ****ing break...it happens people get tired ....
