I'm actually not that confident with him in the new system either. He's not a guy with good touch in the short passing game. He's a downfield, 7 step drop kind of passer and always has been.

I see a lot of whining form the Eli adorers about tipped balls being picked off this season.

I do agree that he can't be as bad as he was last year..........Could he?

It would be difficult.

It's certainly possible but unlikley that McAdoo will seek to employ an even lower probability/percentage offense than Gilbride's. It ain't likely but it's certainly possble.

I'm just not excited about anyone that should be available at 12. Can't imagine anyone dropping to us that would change that.
If we stuck at 12 I guess the only guy I would be pretty happy with is Barr. I love his pass rushing ability, which is the one thing missing still with us....At least if we go by last season.

But if we could trade with Cleveland and pick up Marqise Lee and add the 35th pick, we'd have 3 picks in the top 43. that's how to build a football team.

I'd be happy with Evans, Barr, or Mack (who I think is better) or a solid O lineman

Well Mack is a top 3 guy. Evans will definitely be gone too. The top 4 OT's will probably be gone as well. Barr will "probably" be there at 12.
I don't like guys who rise on the boards during the spring when they aren't playing a down. Evans is one of those guys along with Donald.

I still say that maybe with the exception of Watkins, Marqise Lee will have the best pro career of any of these WR's.

But because I thing all these guys I mentioned will be gone, our chances of drawing interest from a team who needs a QB is much higher. We could definitely be in a position to trade down with a team that wants a QB.

Although I agree if it pans out that way.... I think there's certainly a possibility that Evans might still be there. Teams like Oakland have been known to make ridiculous picks and there are always surprises and trades.... We just never know.

If all of the guys you mention are gone we would have to seriously consider trading the pick or taking the BPA, which will depend on who the BPA is.

All i know is: Sure Pugh might have been 2nd round talent...but we got him late 1st and it worked out, so...hard to argue the results thus far. Rookie expectations are low, and he was small silver lining in our offense last year.

Morehead State
05-08-2014, 10:51 AM
Am I the only one who remembers the million times MH said we should of drafted Trufant?
I would have. He was one of the top 2 or 3 defensive rookies in the league last year. I would have because he dropped in our lap and we friggin passed.
JR reached for Pugh because he put himself in an impossible position. He had a hole in our roster going into the draft and was forced to pick a OT no matter what. If Pugh was gone he would have picked the next one. He totsally ****ed up his position when all these guys dropped when GM's ahead of him were chasing need. JR followed along like a robot.
Why?...because he didn't deal with the position in the short term in free agency as he should have. Larry Warford had the best year of any O linemen in that draft and he went in the third round.
We were talking about him going into the draft last year on TAGF. Could have had Trufant AND Warford last year if he played it smart.

I like Pugh a lot. I think JR lucked out that this kid played well. But as a draft strategy...it was very Jerry Jones-like.

The way that GM's were desperately chasing need there was no way Pugh would have been there for us in round 2.
The point I'm making, which is the same point I made last year is that when GM's go crazy chasing need, the best GM's TAKE ADVANTAGE. They don't fall in the same trap.
That's how we got Prince. Teams were chasing need and atop 10 talent like Prince fell right in our lap.

So lets look at the long term consequences. We could have had Trufant and Prince last year. We wouldn't have had to pay DRC all that money. We could have afforded some impactful free agents this season.

It was just poor drafting. It's not about the player. It's about the position that JR put himself in.

But as a draft strategy...it was very Jerry Jones-like.Thats not the way lasts years draft was unfolding though. 6 linemen were picked before Pugh.
Pugh was one of the best rookie tackles last year too. Reese took a gamble and it paid off. I agree Reese should have picked up a olineman or two in FA last year, but he didnt. He just signed Beatty to a ridiculous contract, maybe he didnt want to spend anymore on oline, who knows.

And lets not get dramatic. Reese is in no way like JJ.

It's EXACTLY how the draft was unfolding. Everyone was chasing O line in the draft. I mean Fluker (who I guarantee JR wanted at 19) went at 12 I think.

It would be hard to screw it up tonight. 12 is aterrible spot in this draft. Similar rated talent from 10 thru 25.
I assume he'll go with a "safe" pick like Martin if he's there. I wouldn't like it but I wouldn't hate it either.

Doubtful because of your previous post....although there are a lot of guys I'd be content with, there's ALWAYS going to be a guy drafted behind whoever we pick, who everyone is going to be like "HE WAS SO MUCH BETTER!! I CANT BELIEVE WE PASSED ON HIM!!!"....it's going to happen...lol

What I DO like about drafting a solid OL early on, is that it could secure our offense even after Eli is no longer our QB (well, hopefully that'd be the case, idk...)

+1.....It's such a crucial position (especially with a mistake prone QB like ours). It's just so undervalued because they don't make plays or the highlight real for a block lol. No one really celebrates the drafting of an offensive lineman like they would any other position.

I'm just saying.....ODB opposite Cruz and Jernigan is going to be EXTREMELY dangerous.....jernigan is the X-factor here now....Randle will get his yardage...but I think we're going to see a huge increase in explosive plays this year from ALL the WRs....

I'll be honest....we all know Watkins was w/o question the best WR in this draft....but the only reason Evans was rated better was because the guy is ****ing huge, that's a big advantage, would have loved him too....but ODB is the total package it seems.

Evans will be the best WR from this class so long as Tedford/Lovie don't hold him back.

As for OBJ, I'm not thrilled, but I'm rooting for him. I see him as a pure yards guy, not a big TD scorer. Scored 2 TDs in the SEC in his entire career, both in blowouts. I would've preferred trading back, getting an additional pick, and filling the void at WR with a guy like Allen Robinson or Jordan Matthews at some point.

gmen0820

.Randle will get his yardage...I think Randle will be the TD guy. He has a penchant for that. But if he can tack on like 1100 yards, that'd be fantastic.

I definitely think that, with sufficient playing time, Randle will get 8 TDs this year. I'm just not sure what the perception of him is in the locker room. I've always been concerned with his work ethic and attitude, so we'll see how his situation plays out.

Combination of "Draft grades" basically said that the Eagles picked the worst of the first rounders last night lolYeah, I wasn't too wild about that pick. I thought Philly made a genius trade to move back and acquire the additional third. I definitely think they bobbled the pick, though.

I think they're too confident in Maclin. They have the medical reports, but I'm not so sure he can be fully counted on. They will probably address WR at some point; should be interesting to see who they wind up picking.

I thought Kelvin Benjamin was one of the worst picks yesterday.

Following the offseason reports last year, though, I thought there was a chance that those concerns were put to rest. But I don't sense that the coaches are satisfied, or plan on giving him a pivotal role. Unfortunate, too, since I feel he's extremely talented. I loved him coming out of college.

Yes they did. and they are not done.....I loved the strategy to bolster the trenches. If Jake Long is healthy, they'll field a very strong line on both sides of the ball.

They should get rid of their OC. They won't, though, so they'll just keep adding pieces and pieces until they come to the realization that the talent may not be the problem. I think the next piece will have to be a big WR like Jordan Matthews or Allen Robinson. You have the little speedster in Tavon (hated the pick), now get that big RZ guy. Add in Stacy, who I like a lot, and they'll be sitting pretty personnel wise. Bradford, Schotty, and that division will probably do them in, though.

Percy Harvin and Greg Jennings are probably the most optimistic comps for Beckham.

He'll be great if Eli's great and McAdoo gets creative with him. If Eli continues to suck (and I don't mean net-suck, where we adjust for OL, play-calling, TC's cholesterol levels, game score, etc.), he'll probably be a max-800 yard guy with modest TD sums.

He's well on his way I think. It's kind of weird that I consider him a veteran WR of our team, but he's the most tenured technically, so I think if he helps some of these young guys, it's something they'd consider.

edit - I love during a game when you have guys fired up on the sidelines, not yelling at players, but hitting them around a bit, maybe amping them up....

Mehh I dont think captain/leader material. Like Strahan said, leaders dont go looking for it. Hes not an in your face guy, nor does he seem like hes down to Earth. Just seems like he has other priorities, like making himself a brand.

I'll be honest....I dont REALLY care whos a captain on our team so long as it makes sense when I see the patch.

Because I think teammates like him....I think people will listen to him if he wants that role....but he's probably better off focusing on that leadership this year if that's something he's working towards.
You cant learn to be a leader, either you are or youre not. Everyone loves Weatherford, we should make him captain!
Horrible reason Pizz

What could be less important on this planet than who is and who isn't a captain on our team?

I haaaate draft coverage when the draft is over...lol, "grades" are all over the place and none of them make sense. "experts" is a term that shouldn't be used so loosely =P

"Your opinion" seemed like a relatively reasonable response.

The long line of laughter seemed completely out of context.
