Then came Friday. And now things are looking even uglier.
The Giants announced that two key corners — second-year man Prince Amukamara (hamstring) and rookie Jayron Hosley (quadriceps) — are doubtful to play in Sunday’s regular-season finale against Philadelphia. And that means an already-struggling secondary could face the Eagles — and nemesis quarterback Michael Vick — with just three healthy cornerbacks.
Amukamara indicated that he might be a game-time decision and added that he has to be “smart about it.” Hosley was even less optimistic, stressing that it’s “a short time until the game, so we have to take it day by day and see how it goes.”
Suddenly, a Giants secondary that’s allowing 257 passing yards per game (fifth-worst in the league) could be targeted even more as Big Blue fights to keep its faint playoff hopes alive.
“Well, we have the three guys,” Tom Coughlin said when asked how the Giants will handle their corner situation. “And we’ll see what Prince is like. We’ll go from there.”
