I hate politicians... Political correctness to the extreme
Apparently if the Redskins want to go back to DC, they gotta change the name because it is race.

I'd say rename them to be the Washington Brickheads. They just need to do minor modifications on their team logo since it's already a head and get to keep their team red color as well.

I have another name that ends with heads but can not type it here.

I'm actually rather surprised it hasn't been changed yet. Having a major sports team named a racial slur isn't very cool,

Yeah I'm surprised too. Imagine if there were teams named the Alaskan Pailskins or the Los Angeles Darkskins with a white or black person on the helmets. It's not about being sensitive, it's more about respect for our fellow man. They probably didn't mean it that way, who knows but it's just the principle.

Well when you have a team who has had the same name for 80 years and has 80 years of merchandise already out into the public, not to mention a team that probably has one of the top 5 fan bases in the NFL, I would think losing the name and changing it to a 'less offensive one' would result in serious financial losses in the short term.

The moral to the story is white people shouldn't be getting offended over the name 'redskins'. I believe several polls of people with Native American descent have shown that they really don't care. They aren't for it, they aren't against it, they don't care. Just like the Florida State Seminoles. The Seminole people aren't complaining, idiot white people are... And I'm saying this as a white guy.

U can have the helmets be a solid color than have a painted black bandana start above the face mask and make it look like it ties at the back of the helmet.

Dude, the exact opposite would be the case. People would want to go out and get the newly logo'd merch; much like when a premier player switches teams (Manning, Tebow) his jersey becomes a top seller, the same would hold with the new stuff... People would want to go and get the new gear. There'd also be the added benefit of adding value to older logo'd gear in the collector's market.

The merch sales would be nothing in comparison to the trademarked Redskins theme. 80 year of history down the toilet. In the short term it would suck, but in the long term it wouldn't. However with a team as popular as the Skins, I'm sure there would be a boycott on buying Redskins merch for awhile. If they change their name because of political pressure (obviously the name has no effect on their popularity and revenue income as they still sold out every game even when they sucked) then I will stop watching the NFL.

If I was Snyder, I would tell anyone who told me to change the team's historic name to "go eff themselves" or better yet "go kill themselves", because the people calling for the name change are the easily offended trash that is wrong with society.

Grow some big boy parts (or big girl parts) and learn to not give a damn about what other people do or say. If Snyder came out and said "I decided to change the team's name on my own because I feel like I can make money off of it", then I'd be okay with it... but if he said "I changed the name because I don't want to offend anyone", then I would stop watching the NFL. Keep politics and POS politicians out of football.

First amendment allows the Redskins to be 'offensive' if they want to be. You can name a team the N word if you want to as well. I don't care, just play football and don't bow to political pressure or up tight losers.

I think a team can and should do whatever it wants, regardless of who it offends. Thank you first amendment. And people who have a problem with the name Redskins can simply just not watch games that they play in and not buy any of their merchandise.

So let me get this straight... Not only do the Redskins need to change their name, but also the Cleveland Indians, Atlanta Braves, and Kansas City Chiefs? The youngest of these teams being the Chiefs who are over 50 years old? You want to wipe away a combined 330 years of team history just to be politically correct? What about teams that have mascots as 'warriors'? Warriors are people too and shouldn't be made a mockery of by mascots. What about the San Fransisco 49ers? The people who rushed to California in 49 looking for gold were people too and shouldn't be made a mockery of. How about the Green Bay Packers? People who work low income jobs packing meat shouldn't be made a mockery of by an NFL team. They are people too ya know!

White Europeans killed off many Indian tribes and then told them they can only happily live in little reservations. And this was the same time they had Africans as slaves. They can do what ever they want on their reservations because this entire country was theirs at one point. And I love casinos.

Chiefs, Braves and Indians are not racist. Redskins is. So is the logo the Indians have. Imagine a team named the Blackskins and their logo was a man with an afro. Same thing really. Its racist. Im not against it because it isn't purposefully racist now, but then again, Im not a Native American so I cant say anything.

Idk, the link that was provided in that movement wanted all of those team names changed and called them racist... At that, we should make the Chicago Blackhawks change their name and logo too. And I'd have no problem with a team called the blackskins or whiteskins for that matter.

Why are the Blackhawks a racist name? They're not -- it was, or is, a tribe, correct? Nothing racist in the Cleveland Indians either. You're insane if you can't see the racism in "Redskins."

giantyankee1976
01-25-2013, 09:28 AM
Blackhawk is not racist. It was the name of one of the local tribes in the eastern Illinois area.

If a team is called the Braves, that is not racist either, it refers to a young warrior.

redskin in effect refers to a rather derogotory description of the hue of many Native American people...I do understand the decades of history thing, but Franchises on the Pro level can and do change their nicknames.

Sonics to Thunder and now the Hornets to Pelicans (LOL)

In all seriousness the PC thing has really morphed into something overly done and ridiculous. But I am sure the Skins can come up with something that keeps all parties from crying.

The Washington Senators, read: Liars, was brilliant IMO. Sense they have Wizards, Mystics and Nationals switching up to a "political" or "government" name might be Ok.
