GO GET GREG JENNINGS!!!!

Never happen. We'll resign Cruz, Hopefully extend Nicks. Randle came along nicely at the end of the year. Dont need him. Need help on both lines. LBer and CB.

thomasjmarino

Better go get him otherwise we'll just watch another team be proactive and get better.
Maybe in the NFC East?
Never have enough options for Eli.
We can work on getting an LB and CB in the draft.
Go Get Greg Jennings!!!!

Here's a potentially valid question. If "rumors" are true and Cruz asks for top dollar. Would you rather have Cruz or Jennings. I'd take Jennings any day of the week.

I'd take Cruz if for nothing else than the fact that he's younger. Both guys are great WRs, but I'll take the guy that's not going to be 30 next season.

Why on earth would we pay for someone like him. I am not saying he wasnt any good because he was. But I am sure he would cost some $$$ and he just had a major operation not to mention we have younger players that cost a lot of less $$ this would to me be a ridiculous unnecessary move.

Cruz is outstanding, there is no doubt about it but I think the slot position in our offense (if the receiver has a good understanding and can execute) is hard to account for. I think its just as much offensive scheme as it is receiver.

The last thing we need is a big FA signing at WR.

We need LB's and OLineman. Any other move would be inadvisable.

I'm critical of Cruz, he drops too many balls but the man can play and that's something he can correct. He's a hard working individual and not a locker room cancer, he's also produced back to back 1000 yard seasons with 19 touchdowns in TWO SEASONS. He has 8 less touchdowns than Hakeem in his CAREER. Sorry, but he's just not "replaceable".

I understand people freaking out because he might ask for a lot, I agree. But the "LET'S SIGN A 30 YEAR OLD WR" is nonsense.

Why exactly would that be?
Best season
Curz 2011- 131 targets, 82 receptions, 1,536 yds 9TD's 59 first downs
Jennings 2008- 139 targets, 80 receptions, 1,292, 9 TD's, 55 FD's

Not to mention cruz is bigger, younger and coming off a far more productive season then Jennings....so I ask again, why?

Doubtful:
One NFC scout tells the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that impending free agent Greg Jennings' market will be "much smaller" than Vincent Jackson's in landing a five-year, $55 million contract last year.
"I put Vincent Jackson last year up in the elite spectrum, a Pro Bowl-caliber player," the scout said. "He's also 6-5 and still can do a lot more things. Greg can't compete with Vincent right now." Jennings is prepared to play for another team in 2013 because "the Packers are going to do what's best for the Packers. And that's not going to change whether you're No. 4, No. 80, No. 85, No. 77."

Jennings is more physical. I have more faith that Jennings will be able to make the tough catch in traffic. This is just my opinion, but i find it hard to justify paying WRs that aren't as physical big money. Big time WRs don't need to be "open" to make the catch. Cruz does.

Edit: Wes Welker is insanely productive. But anyone wonder why the Patriots hesitate to re-sign him to something big? Welker, while great, isn't the greatest bang for the buck. Especially for a WRs of his prototype. Cruz fits into a similar mold.

You forgot another backhanded knock on Cruz, "Nicks, Eli's #1 target."

Cruz is a lot more versatile than Welker. He's a few inches taller, his vertical leap is a full FOOT higher than Welker's (30 inches to 41.5), and on top of that he's way faster. Welker runs a 4.65 40 while Cruz's low is 4.42. They are both amazingly agile. Welker will be turning 32 in a few months. Cruz could easily play the outside but he plays the slot so well. Why make changes to a system that works?

Big time WRs don't need to be "open" to make the catch. Cruz does.

Cruz has made countless circus catches in traffic in the last two years. I can think of multiple off the top of my head. Oddly, lots of his drops occur when there isn't anyone near him.

GTGiantsFan
01-15-2013, 12:46 AM
I'd take Jennings over Cruz, if they were looking for the same amount of cash. If Jennings is looking for a lot more, than forget it, I think Cruz isn't far off him. Cruz can be even better if he has a (healthy) Nicks on the other side again, but imagine Jennings? Difficult, both are good receivers.

Cruz has played for the league minimum for 2 or 3 years. He has every right to ask for top dollar. If I was his agent or his professional advisor I'd tell him to test the market. As a Giants fan I think he should resign for the minimum again. I don't want Greg Jennings. So then we'll have 2 injury prone receivers. Besides can Greg play slot like Cruz? IDK about that.
