Because he's one of the few with a manageable cap hit.

Yeah, I think DD has one more year on his contract. Cutting him would be a roughly $3 mil cap hit in dead money, although he's due a $4 mil base, along with a $3 mil bonus(which is where the cap hit comes from) in 2013

Speculation, nothing solid yet and the Giants are pretty tight lipped about these things!

Restructure in the case of some of those (DD specifically) would probably mean a pay cut (rather than folding part of his salary into a signing bonus).

Not sure they'll let go of Boley, but considering our lack of depth at DT and that we just restructured Rolle last year, makes Boley an obvious cap target.

I don't see why Giants would cut Boley's snaps if they weren't moving on from him

If we can keep him dirt cheap, I say keep him. Vet Olineman, keep him as emergency backup OL. Depth is big. I also think CWeb should be kept as DEPTH, not a starter. Boley and Canty shound be cut if they dont want to play for cheap.

The fact that Diehl is coming back is bothering me. He really needs to retire IMO the only way Diehl stays is if he takes a backup role with a new contract.

cant we have alot of people we need to sign with no room to do it.They have one guy they really need to worry about this offseason and that's Beatty. Make some cuts that will actually save some money like Rolle and then let he others finish up this year. Hope they play better and that they draft great. They may need to take a step back to get this right.

beatty and cruz are MUST resigns. i wouldnt say cruz so much if nicks actually played a whole season but im not comfortable with ruben randle jernigan kevin hardy and bradon collins as they are the only wr's techincally still on team. hixon barden cruz are free agents

Cutting Diehl would incur a pretty decent cap hit, a cut and re-sign would be pointless.

Granted, we'd have to eat his bonus money no matter what, but by a cut and resign we'd be able to save on his base salary.

Would it be better to have him on the roster for $7m+ or $4m?

It'd be $5 mil after signing him, no? Certainly an option, but couldn't you save more by restructuring him?

You generally don't save any money by restructuring, it's just shifting when the money gets counted against the cap. However, Diehl is in the last year of his deal, so unless you extended him too, you'd just increase the guaranteed money he'd get this season.

Diehl's bonus money is $3.35 (though I think the $350k is workout and other play based incentive), and vet min is about $1m., so I figure his cap value would be about $4m on a cut and resign.

Diehl, Webster, & Tuck can't restructure their deals because they're in their last year.

I swear to god, if I David ****ing Diehl is on this roster next year, I will punch babies

we need to cut their pay not restructure it out over next two years or so. I wish we could sign better contracts that give both us and the players a fair deal rather than losing key players to money or keeping washed up guys for probowl money

I know there's no salary cap room left but sooner or later they have to start eating away or just make tough desicions cutting some guys . Agree, they have to start doing the " right " thing.

Diehl has a big heart but he just can't bring it anymore. God, when I compare the Pats oline to the Giants, it makes me want to take that baby you punched and throw it into a woodchipper.

We have a bunch of guys on their 2nd or 3rd contracts, including some FA signings. Winning 2 SBs in the past 5-6 years also inflated the value of some of these contracts.
