Excerpt: "The New York Giants (http://www.giants101.com/tag/new-york-giants/) and General Manager Jerry Reese (http://www.giants101.com/tag/jerry-reese/) have a lot of decisions to make about their offensive line this offseason. Both Will Beatty (http://www.giants101.com/tag/will-beatty/)and Kevin Boothe (http://www.giants101.com/tag/kevin-boothe/) are free agents, Sean Locklear (http://www.giants101.com/tag/sean-locklear/) is also a free agent and trying to work back from a devastating injury, and a decision needs to be made on David Diehl (http://www.giants101.com/tag/david-diehl/), who will command a $4.1 million base salary in 2013. The common feeling is that the team will look to the NFL (http://www.giants101.com/tag/nfl/) Draft to fill some of their holes, and one target may be Oklahoma Sooners offensive tackle Lane Johnson.

The 6'6'', 303 lbs. lineman has impressed most onlookers, and is considered by many to be one of, if not the best tackle available in the 2013 NFL (http://www.giants101.com/tag/nfl/) Draft. If nothing else, he is projected to go in the first-round come April, and may be available when the Giants select at #19 (http://www.giants101.com/2013/01/03/new-york-giants-will-draft-19th-overall-in-2013-nfl-draft/).

Matt Miller of NFL (http://www.giants101.com/tag/nfl/) Draft Scout, who is in Mobile, Alabama covering the Senior Bowl, was among those impressed with Johnson. But he wasn't the only one. Miller had one of the Giants scouts in attendance remark "that's my left tackle (https://twitter.com/nfldraftscout/status/293397041126719488)" after watching Johnson practice." Read more...

That's not a huge issue if we can sign Beatty

Matt Miller doesnt work for nfl draft scout. He works for bleacher report and New Era Scouting.

Is there any way that Locklear is even ready for the start of next season? Seems real risky to put our eggs in that basket.

I wouldn't even lay one egg in that basket.

Yeah, but that's a small detail.

What's far more significant, in my view, is that for a Giants scout to --allegedly--give voice in the vicinity of anyone in the media to a preference for any player scouted is a violation of Articles 1, 2, and 3 of Jerry Reese's Credo for all player personnel decisions: never, ever, give away any player preferences before the actual moment of announcement.

Because of that, this article is 100% suspect.

Completely agree ---- which means we need a RT (don't see any way that we go into next season with Diehl as our RT).

If they cant resign Beatty, Johnson may be exactly where they go.

If Beatty is still here, I am not positive they need another LT prospect, unless they want to move Beatty to RT?

I hope not. The guy looked terrible in preseason

id be pretty stoked with him. he looks like he could be an awesome RT. he looked real good in the run game and looked to have good footwork in pass protection with good use of his hands. only thing is i dunno how anchored he is, looks like he could get pushed back some so maybe needs to bulk up. doesnt look like hes filled out his frame by any means...

id preferably, bc we need a RT remember not the coveted LT (u can get quality RT's later on bc its almost a knock on a guy if he cant be a LT meaning if there was some excellent RT who didnt possess whatever tangible needed to move to LT, his draft stock wouldnt be that high) I would trade my pick at 19 for an early 2nd round pick n 3rd round pick. from there, I draft at least 1 OL and 1 DL or 2 OL/2DL in the 2nd based on whose available at our pick. Then in the 3rd, I'd finish ensuring I got 2 quality OL and 2 quality d players (a DE and a LB for example). JR should be able to find a starting caliber G in rd 2 as well (Snee was a 2nd rd pick)
I guess in a much simpler way of explaining, I'd trade the 19th pick to get an additional 2nd and 3rd round pick, then use the 2nd and 3rd rounds to ensure I got 2 quality OL and 2 quality d players, 1 of which is a DE who at minimum is a freak at rushing the passer. the DE imo just needs to be a pass rush specialist really, we have the DEs to play the run in JPP, Tuck n Kiwi. We need that freak pass rusher to help JPP and Co. face less attention from the offense.

Probably looking at LTs in case Beatty escapes us. Last thing we need is a J'Marcus Webb situation for the 2013 season. The scout could also mean "That's my FAVORITE left tackle", like as in his #1 in the draft at that position.

In that tape I put up the player he is going against a lot of the snaps #94 is Damontre Moore. He is regarded as a Top 20 pick

Even with his team down big I think I only saw him give up 1 pressure against what many believe to be a top 10 pick. Also got good push in the run game...Very impressive

I doubt Reese lets Beatty go. He'll find a way. You have to keep your best players when they are still in their 20's. Continuity is key with players and coaches.

Boothe played well after week 4. But at age 30, he might not be worth it and will probably get a higher offer elsewhere.

Is there really talk of moving Beatty to RT? He strikes me as purely a LT. Doesn't seem like the kind of bully you'd optimally want at RT.

I doubt the Giants go offensive line in the first round, could be done though. Not many people thought we were going RB in the first round last year.

He's an offensive lineman and his name is Lane. I'm all for it.

Those "bully" types of a thing of years past. With the emphasis on the pass game and pass catching TEs you want your RT to stand up to the pass rusher without help. If you can grab a franchise type LT at 19 you take him and kick your good but not great LT over to the right side.

Sounds like a plan in my book! Sign the kid if he is available!
