If we do make the playoffs, Which team would you rather face in the first round?

wow thats a tough one. both dome teams, both playing very good football of late, both with execellent young qb's playing at their highest level all season now. well we would get them outdoors in our place and for that im greatful.

my vote would probably be the lions since they do not have a running game that anybody fears. very one dimensional team. only problem is they excell at the passing dimension. but if the giants Dline can pin their ears back and not worry about the run gashing us constantly then i think we got a great shot at winning this one. id rather not have to contend with mchael turner and company on the ground churning out yards all day vs us.

I'm not playing the game, why do I need to focus on anything? Atlanta plays on Monday so I'm still not sure who to be rooting for in the game based on who we match up with better.

We will be Home. We would be fourth seed regardless of what Atlanta or detroits records are. We play 5th seed. The WC team always has to travel to the division winners home.

This has raised some questions in recent past with teams from NFC West making playoffs right at or below .500. And how people don't thinlk it is fair that a 10 or 11 win dome team would have to travel to a cold weather site or vice versa. That's there reward for winning so many games

how? Atlanta has a better record dont they? I know if the giants win sunday we get the 4th spot in the nfc. I cant imagine them being that far up. I figured GB,SF,NO,ATL then maybe det and we'd be last. But it is what it is. I would love them to run the table like in 07. But I dont see it happening.

Doesn't go by record, division winners are always home in the first week of the playoffs. Last year the Saints were 11-5 but only won the WC so they had to go to Seattle to face a 7-9 Seahawks team.

Not seeded by records 1-6. First four are all div winners seeded by best record then next two best records for WCs. Div winners get home games over WCs regardless of records

never did like that setup.

i don't mind a division winner getting an automatic bid.....that's fair......but that should only give them a playoff birth.

after division winners and wild cards have been determined......the 6 teams should be re-seeded
according to their records and conference tie-breakers.

atlanta ; cuz we won't be able to block suh and fairly ; nor can we cover their receivers.

lets do a litte break down of the teams:

qb=. ryan vs stafford. just about a wash imo. both very young still with big arms. decison making still can be a question with both but talent is unquestioned.

rb= turner, snelling, jaquiz vs keivn smith and mo morris. clear advantage to atlanta here. kinda thought of as a down year for turner the burner but hes still top 5 in the nfl in rushing yards. atlanta is capable of running the ball when they want to at least. dont know if i can say the same about detroit.

wr/te= roddy, julio, douglas, gonzalez vs calvin, burelson, young, and pettigrew.
I dont even know how to begin rating these recieveing cores. lets just say they are both ELITE. (just like the Giants recievers)

OL= gotta give the edge to atlanta here. better run game and give up fewer sacks than detroit.

DL= both really good units and really strenghts of both teams. gonna give a slight nod to suh and company with detroit. avril and vanden bosch have really had nice years with all the attention given to the D tackles on the inside. but its closer than some might think, atlanta are no slouches upfornt even though as a whole its been a down year for abraham minus his thursday night destruciton of blaine gabbert. atlanta in the top 3rd of rushing D and detroit in the bottom 3rd of rushing D.

LB= no doubt atlanta here. lofton and weatherspoon are one of the great lb combos we have in the league today. they are every bit as good as some of the better known combos such as willis/bowman, urlacher/briggs, harrison/woodley.

DB's= both the weakness's of these teams defensivley. young players and blown assigments come hand and hand with these teams and i wouldnt want anybody other than Eli to be the one to exploit them. If were gonna be beat either of these teams our passing game will be the focal point of the offense just like its been the majority of the season.

if i had to choose i'd take detroit. but i really could care less. both good football teams. the Giants when we play with passion and smarts all rolled into one equals a better football team than both! hey call me a homer i dont care!

NYGiants2120

ummm quick question. just had a brain fart. if new orleans is the #3 seed (which they will be, san fran is winning next week to lock up the #2 seed) are they automaticly unable to play atlanta in the 1st round since they play in the same divison or does that not matter at all? thanks.

The division they're in doesn't matter. If New Orleans is the 3 seed and Atlanta is the 6 seed they'll still play each other.

Anyway, I'd rather play the Lions. The Falcons are more experienced and are a much more well rounded and balanced team. If the Lions are hot they can shred this defense, but I doubt they'll able to do that in a cold, windy Meadowlands. If the Giants get hot, though, they can beat either of those teams easily.

Atlanta easily. I don't trust Matt Ryan playing an away game outside of a dome.

Altanta, I would be more worried about detroit D, We have trouble against good D's Seahawks, redskins, SF. Those teams all held our passing game in check.

Merry Christmas everyone...

To satify people's curiosity....
Yes, I'm looking ahead of the Cowboys game, but the team itself should not.

Based on the predicted outlook, Falcons might get shimshammed by the Saints tomorrow at N.O. after the Packers knock out the Bears and secure the No. 1 seed tonight. Falcons would then be guaranteed the last wildcard playoff spot

With the Packers securing the No. 1 seed going to the last week, they might play preseason mode with their starters especially with Rodgers looking at Suh on the other side of the scrimmage line. Lions would rather play the 9-7 Giants than whoever ends up with the 3rd seed. Lions might win that game and secure the No. 5 seed. If they somehow lose to the Packers and the Falcons beat the Bucs, then the Falcons get the No. 5 seed (Falcons have the head-to-head matchup tiebreaker).

Megatron or Julio Jones/Tony Gonzalez, pick your poison... With the Lions though, there's always a chance that Suh gets ejected/suspended again playing the Packers. lol

Stafford is having a better year than Eli.

giantsfan420

really, both detroit and atlanta have had spells of pretty bad football.

detroit has had a few games where they dont show up for the first half at all

and atlanta has had some games where they abandoned the run and ryan struggled passing.

i'd rather play atlanta bc in order for them to win they need the run game to open up the pass and still ryan needs to play well. they arent as explosive as detroit. detroit has put up a ton of points and all they do is pass, when they run it is out of passing formations.

i just think we'd match up better vs atlanta than detroit just bc of their philosophies

giantsfan420
12-25-2011, 04:56 PM
plus, could u imagine our interior OL matching up vs Suh and Farley? I DO NOT want to see Baas or Boothe getting blown the **** up by Suh and Suh doing one of his patented illegal dirty hits to hell on Eli...guy has no remorse or concern for the QB, some of his hits are really awful and really really dirty.

when the passing game struggles its bc eli cant step up into the pocket...pretty sure vs Detroit that'd be what we face

It comes down to one thing. Who has more weapons? Because our D sucks.

The answer is Detroit. They have more weapons. Megatron, Young, Burleson, Stovall, Pettigrew, Scheffler. Stafford knows how to spread the ball around, and our D cannot cover all those guys.

What about Atlanta? They have White, Jones, and Gonzalez. A much shorter list. So if it was up to me, give me Atlanta, hands down.

Atlanta.
Then the playoffs hopefully come up as this:
1st round:
Falcons vs @Giants (Solid Game) = Giants
Lions vs @49ers (Rematch of the handshake) = Lions
@Texans vs Raiders (Who knows?) = Raiders
Steelers vs @Broncos (Timmys first playoff game) = Broncos
2nd Round:
@Saints vs Giants (Yikes) = Saints
@Packers vs Lions (Showdown) = Packers
Raiders vs @Patriots (Seems ok) = Patriots
Broncos vs @Ravens (Battle of the better D's) = Broncos
N/AFC's:
Broncos vs @Patriots (Timmy vs Tom rematch) = Broncos
Saints vs @Packers (hottest teams) = Packers
SuperBowl:
Packers vs Broncos (Wow Timmy vs Aaron) = I will go with the Broncos to win it all. I think Timmy will shock the world and be that low ranked team to win it all like the packers did last season. Good D + running game and a great clutch QB could be what it takes.

Yeah, this is not happening. Tim Tebow is not winning the Super Bowl.

Plus, your projections are off. The only way the Saints can get a first round bye is if the 49'ers lose to the Rams next week, which ain't happening. Green Bay & San Fran are getting the top 2 NFC spots.
