Excerpt: "Boley was released because of his cap number, but also the team appears ready to move on with young linebackers like Jacquian Williams (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/14199/jacquian-williams) and perhaps Spencer Paysinger (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/14648/spencer-paysinger) will be in line for a bigger role as well. Boley saw his snaps reduced at the end of the season. With Chase Blackburn (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/9289/chase-blackburn) and Keith Rivers (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/11243/keith-rivers) both free agents, the Giants have Mathias Kiwanuka (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/9618/mathias-kiwanuka) (who could potentially move to defensive end), Williams, Mark Herzlich (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/14262/mark-herzlich) and Paysinger at linebacker. They could bring back Rivers and Blackburn and perhaps sign another linebacker or draft one.

Boley, though, very well could be the first of some longtime familiar faces to be impacted by the Giants' salary cap situation. Last month, we took a look at some candidates who could be released or asked to restructure their deals and Boley was one of them.

Here's a look again at some candidates who could follow Boley:

RT David Diehl (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/4618/david-diehl): The veteran, who has helped the team win two Super Bowls, will make $4.4 million in base salary in the final year of his deal. The Giants have to re-sign Beatty and Boothe. The Giants like Diehl's versatility to play tackle and guard but they may feel TJames Brewer (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/14098/james-brewer)'s time is now.

CB Corey Webster (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/8457/corey-webster): Struggled this past season and is entering final year of deal worth $7 million in base salary. The Giants, though, really only have Prince Amukamara (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/13975/prince-amukamara) and Jayron Hosley (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/14983/jayron-hosley) at corner after Webster. The Giants have a $6 million option on Terrell Thomas' contract in March, so they are expected to get out of that contract but could re-sign Thomas to a new short-term, low-risk deal later.

DT Chris Canty (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/8546/chris-canty): Veteran is due $6.25 million this coming season and $6.5 next season in base salary. He told reporters on Tuesday night at a charity even that he has not been approached yet by the team about his contract or possibly restructuring.

RB Ahmad Bradshaw (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/10693/ahmad-bradshaw): Recently underwent surgery to replace a screw in his troublesome right foot. Tom Coughlin likes to have three running backs and loves Bradshaw, who will make $3.75 in base salary. " Read more...

In addition to your candidates, TUCK, saw in post if we keep, cost 5.8 M against cap, if we cut we save 4 M cap money, 1.8 Mi cost/hit. Thanks for the memories Mr Tuck, the ride is over, please exit to your left.

The thing about Canty we are slim at the defensive tackle position if we cut him. It leaves us with Joseph, Austin, Kuhn. So the logical thing to do is restructure his contract.
As for who's the next to be on the chop block? I think it's Diehl or Webster.

i said from the begining that boley webster diehl and canty and tuck should be cut. and if these 2 players dont restructure cut them rolle and bradshaw. if we cut boley(already happend) tuck canty webster and diehl it would save us about $29millon in cap space

I completely agree with this. The team needs to get younger and faster and cheaper despite the predilection of the coaching staff.

some of these veterans need to go, they are too relaxed.

I could definitely see Dave Diehl and Corey Webster being asked to wait outside.

Canty could be let go, although for some reason, I just have a gut feel he comes back.

I hope Bradshaw is kept, but maybe they want to go real young at RB and use Wilson, Brown and another young guy next year.

I would also not be surprised to see Kenny Phillips allowed to take a walk as well. He is hurt too much.

What about Rolle?

They just restructured Rolle. Would be a large cap hit to cut him.

Canty and CWeb are who I think they might part with next (one or both). At the very least, restructure (down) Canty and DD.

What about Rolle?

I think Rolle is part of the solution, not part of the problem.

I am not his biggest fan, but he has done everything we have asked him to do.

He does have a big #, so he could be asked to re-structure.

IMO T2 is the next cut.

+1 he is too versatile to cut, he's a good in the box safety and plays the slot well enough as a backup. I wasn't a huge fan of his either when he started running his mouth etc..but that may be exactly what this team needs, someone to get in their faces and hold them accountable...not to mention the dude is tough playing most of 2011 with 2 torn rotator cuff's.

Canty is lucky to be at a position where we have zero depth. I just don't think that we can afford to lose a DT.

Depends how high we draft a DT this year.

I think the title of this thread should be changed as to "Who will be next surprise cut?"
