Keith Rivers is re-signing with the Giants per Jenny Vrentas.Good move, IMO, if true.

EDIT:

http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2013/03/keith_rivers_re-signs_with_gia.html - RF

Excerpt: "The Giants will re-sign linebacker Keith Rivers to a one-year deal, according to a person with knowledge of the agreement between the sides. That person requested anonymity because the Giants have not yet announced the signing.

Rivers was traded to the Giants for a fifth-round pick last April. He battled some minor injuries but played 11 games, starting six." Read more...

Keith Rivers will sign a one-year deal with the Giants. Helps re-stock their thin LB position. #nyg

Non-factor. Great when he's on the field which, unfortunately is less often than when he's off the field. :(

If he can actually manage to walk from here to there without winding up in the tub, he could have a break out season (one hit wonder for the Giants).

Yeah, just wish he could stay healthy. I liked him when he played.

Good analogy. I guess he would have to be a candidate for the middle then.

Yep ... at least assuming he doesn't get hurt in OTAs

I like Rivers and the signing. Maybe they can outfit him with a kevlar uniform for protection.

Yes he can .... until he gets a booboo that is.

Rivers was a beast in college. I wanted us to draft him that year. If (and that's a big if) he can stay healthy, he can be a beast. And his injuries aren't at all similar. He's like Kiwanuka. A bunch of freak injuries.

Kiwi had one injury of note.

Rivers has had like ... all of them?

Kiwi had the herniated disk in 2009 and broken leg in 2007

Rivers broke his arm, his jaw (from a Hines Ward blindside block, led to the Hines Ward Rule), and had ankle problems last year. Ankle Sprains are one of the worst injuries to come back from. If you sprain your ankle week one, you won't be 100% the rest of the year.

He is nothing like Bob Sanders. A blindside dirty hit from Hines Ward ended his rookie year (where he was on pace to possibly be DROY). Then he missed 4 games over the next 2 years and then shattered his wrist in the preseason and missed 2011. He gets traded to the Giants after being out of football for a year and obviously wasn't in the best football shape. He's 6'2 235. He's the same size as LT was. How is it possible to play too big at that size?
This year will be different I think. A year back at it and he'll be in better shape. If not, I'll eat my crow, but everyone on this board should hope I don't have to.

Well let's see here ...

2008 - Missed 9 games.
2009 - Missed 3 games.
2010 - Missed 1 game (really missed 4 games though)
2011 - Missed 16 games.
2012 - Missed 5 games (but really missed 7 games)

When he's on the field, he's ferocious. However, with the way he plays, he injures himself. Hence he plays "too big for his body" (actual size of his body is irrelevant).

Wasn't really a hard point to miss.

Not saying it's his fault ... some people are just built like that. And yeah, I think the Heinz Ward hit ruined his career.

I like him as a player but he needs to stay healthy. He looked great on the field when he was one, I hope he does a lot of strength training this offseason.

Don't think he plays too big at all. He just has a combo of bad luck and beig easily injured.

Things like a broken jaw have nothing to do with playing too hard or anything.

But for close to or at the vet minimum, giants aren't going to find better

Exactly, and this just in: Rivers broke his wrist signing the contract and blew out his ACL running to the car on the way to the hospital.

The Giants are going to have to have a triage unit on the sidelines...

Well, if he can stay on the field for even half the season, this will be worth it. This makes the Sam position less of a concern, and he could even play Mike if needed to...

How much was the deal? If the contract is heavily incentivized based on number of games played I wouldn't mind it as much. Dude was great when he actually could play...

well if re-signing Rivers means the Giants are no longer interested/pursuing Maualuga, I'm ok with that.

I wonder if the Giants are going to give him a shot at the mike, though he has played his career at Sam or Will.

I love this place because there are about 4 same threads on the same page. That's why if you go 18 hours without searching the message boards, you see about 20 pages of new threads on 'what's new'

I don't think it will be WLB.. should be J Williams spotyup sounds about right, since Boley is gone. So Rivers at Mike or Sam. Maybe the Giants still are looking at Dansby? JWill, Dansby, and Rivers as our starting 3. I know we still have Paysinger---good ST, back-up Will---maybe challenges at Sam?
