I thought Muprhy was actually a decent receiver in Oakland for a while? Am I thinking of the wrong guy?

His career statistics show him making 1,707 career receiving yards from 115 receptions. That's better than Hixon?Has some good stats while playing for Oakland, just seems under used in Carolina...

Has some decent upside ... kid flashes now and again.

I would assume it's to provide some competition for JJ at the 4th WR spot.

They had high hopes for him, I believe. Or maybe I'm thinking of Chaz Schilens.

Cant hurt.. try him out. Id like to see them also bring back Collins from last year. he seemed decent if he isnt on another team already. Also i guess Douglass and Depalma were not what some of us thought they could be. We were comparing them to the Welkers, Edlemans and Amendolas of the NFL but didnt realize they were catching passes against the WORST the NFL had in preseason last year. Douglas and Depalma along with all those DBs they played against are now all out of the NFL

Giants dont really have a guy with straight 9 route deep threat speed , Murphy could help

Backup for losing Cruz.... Ugh. Yeah, he looked ok in Oakland a few years ago. Never really had a solid QB. I wouldn't mind it for depth though. Losing Hixon Barden Bennett and possibly Cruz...

This is a good body for camp. Jernigan better not give up his spot for this guy.

Never heard of him.....

Didn't play much. Think he's fast. He was used in the running game as well.

I remember L. Murphy coming out of college, and I believe I wanted the Giants to draft him. He was a good receiver out of Florida, I believe. Nothing to brag about, but is solid and had some success in a poor Oakland offense, and an overhyped/under-performing offense in Carolina. If we keep Cruz, Nicks, Randle and Hixon/Jernnigan......he'd add very good competition, he'd be a great back up, and he could end up being a very solid #3 or #4.

If we pick him up, and he's not too expensive, he's a solid pick up.

6'2" and a 4.32 40 time ... now if only his hands can become sticky.

Has he had trouble catching the ball?

I could see Murphy having a few 100yrd games with us on like 2-4catches.. Like u said, could be helpful pickup.. he definetly has flashed at times...

Has nothing to do with Cruz. Just more competition for the #3 spot in training camp.

Murphys been hurt alot is the is one of issues with inconsistency right?

Got to see a lot of him in college living down here in SEC land. The kid can fly! I remember him making a bunch of tough catches. I think he would be an interesting pick up! He could flourish with the Giants. I am a bit puzzled why he was quiet in Carolina?

I wouldnt mind him coming in cheap. Barden and Hixon most likely are gone. Murphy was one of those deep threat/burners, that has come out of Florida in the past several years. He played with Harvin I believe.

If he can contribute on ST and give the Giants 20 to 30 catches a year, I'm good with that. Maybe he could give Jernigan some competition.

But I agree, he is a deep threat that could give the Giants another weapon on offense.

its hard to judge any receiver that played for the Raiders, who knows what this guy is like until he has a QB like Eli throwing to him....

He looks like he'd be in one of the Cartels like the Los Zetas lol http://www.footballnewsnow.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/louis_murphy_sm.jpg

I heard he was arrested before, for what though?

No more than any other 4th string receiver.

His upside is that he could be our Devry Henderson.

Couple of problems I see with this guy ...

1) Body catches too much

2) He isn't as fast on the field as his 40 time would dictate (doesn't pull away like he should).

Good 4th strong prospect though (I like what I've seen of him more than what I've seen of JJ tbh).

I don't think he's lacking speed, his height and long legs make him appear to be running slower than he really is. Numerous times he got past the 3rd level of the defense before the Safety even saw the play develop. Agility and quickness seems to be lacking but he's got that top end 4.3 speed on the field.

Blown coverages != speed.

But speed is probably the wrong word ... he lacks acceleration.

Would like this a lot. Guy made some nice plays in Oakland on a mediocre offense.

Reckon this guy could thrive under Eli...at 1:32 Murphy catches the game winning touchdown against PIT. Guess who's the guy who he beat on the play? Ryan Mundy who we just signed :\

Never heard of him.....

i think he was drafted by Oakland and when he played i he appeared reliable! his qb situation sucked too!

in Carolina he was the #3 or 4 and never was on the same page with Cam. then again they only had 1 season together!

he could be a good replacement for Hixon!
