There's still STL.yup, I think St Louis might be the last serious team at going after Cruz. I have read some back and forth rumblings on twitter between the beat writers.

Yes, but I don't think it will happen and, as we've suggested, should they present an offer sheet it's going to be under $8M and we should cover that

No team would get him other than St. Louis I believe. No team wants to lose a 1st and pay a lot when they might as well wait for next year, and hope that he doesn't get a long-term contract.

With the market values we've seen recently for WRs, I think it's very likely Cruz will be here long term.

Someone has suggested they can no longer use poison pills, but I've not tried to verify that

Someone has suggested they can no longer use poison pills, but I've not tried to verify thatAs I clicked post I thought I remembered hearing that happening but the memory wasn't clear enough to believe. I think with Hutch it was like "if he plays 5 or more games a year in Minnesota he gets $15mil in bonuses" or something absurd like that.

Unless they do a poison pill like Seattle did with Hutchison years ago.Part of the new CBA is you can't put poison pills in contracts.

St. Louis isn't gonna take him. They got bigger holes to fill. They just lost Amendola and Gibson. STL is about as real a possibility as there is.

They offer him 8million over 5years. We match it. How do we work the contract to cover the 8M in the first year? Or does he play under the 2.8M Tender this season if he stays and the 8m starts next season..

Reason I ask is we were just discussing in another thread where the money will come from to sign Boothe and the Draft class. We only were about 1.5 over signing Mundy, and resigning rivers. Where would all this money come from?

Reason I ask is we were just discussing in another thread where the money will come from to sign Boothe and the Draft class. We only were about 1.5 over signing Mundy, and resigning rivers. Where would all this money come from? We'll be getting some extra money come June. Pat Traina believes that Bradshaw and Canty are going to be designated as post-June 1 cuts, which means their accelerated cap hits get spread over 2 years, instead of just this year. That should free up almost enough to sign our draft class. If we can get Diehl to take a pay cut, and maybe make another move or two (possibly get Rolle to take a cut, extend Eli, etc.), then we'll have more than enough.

The contract has to be exactly the same as the Rams wrote it.so besides having to try and resign Boothe, sign the rookies (if they don't get the post june 1 designation with AB and Canty) and then have to give Cruz say 8 million for the season plus maybe a HEFTY signing bonus..... I don't know that we could match their offer. You may see JR taking the extra number one pick

I guess the giants FO knows what it's doing. Why else would they be inviting so many guys in for visits. So behind the scenes they have a plan to sign all our own guys plus new ones

I don't know that we could match their offer. You may see JR taking the extra number one pickI doubt the contract would be for $8m this season. Teams almost never front load contracts, or for that matter, give evenly dispersed contracts. If he signed a 5yr/$40m contract, year 1 would probably be like $4m.

I don't think the Rams would be able to offer the contract that you're describing, either. I don't know how much cap room they have, but if the land Long, then I sincerely doubt they'd have enough to fork over $8m+ to Cruz in the first year.

He's already accounting for $3M so they give him a $5M signing bonus and up his guarantee a little

Like I said elsewhere, there's a very good chance that RF's account has been hacked by Tom Condon and he cannot get back in!

Would St Louis have to surrender "their pick" or the redskins pick?

L.T.56
03-16-2013, 12:08 AM
that would be a significant downgrade for cruz. going from eli to bradford. plus st.louis aint going anywhere anytime soon with sanfran and seattle in their division and with much better quarterbacks. atleast thats my opinion.

However a lot of the mocks have the Rams drafting Tavon Austin in First round with their pick.... So who knows maybe they move up a few to get him and not have to pay mega millions to Cruz or give up a draft pick
