Guess he went fishing in FA and found out he wasn't as hot a prospect as he had thought. I think Osi will come crawling back as well eventually. Unless he threatens all the NFL teams that he will boycott the season if his phone doesn't start ringing soon

The Giants plan is to trade Curtis Painter for DRC and a 2nd round pick in the draft.

All Carr's signing does is reaffirm the fact that if Eli goes down we are doomed. All the cap management, all the free agent signings, all the draft strategy means nothing unless we keep our rubbery QB standing. One hit to the knees and our team is done for the season. Bad move by JR.
I was actually excited for a second when Hasselback was released.
But alas it was fleeting..........

its a pretty cool job. basically you're the assistant offensive coordinator who gets to dress and throw balls on the field during pregame.

Except for the skins, because apparently Jernigan plays the role of RG3 on the scout team for that whole option thing...

We're no different than any other team in the NFL that has a franchise QB. If the franchise goes down for the season, we're doomed. The real value of the backup is to have a guy who can win a few and keep us in the race if Eli misses only a few games. Carr can certainly do that.

That's just not true. The Colts had Drew Stanton last year, the Bears had Campbell etc... Many good teams have good QB's to protect their teams if a QB goes down.
We saw what happens when you don't with Peyton a few years ago.

Exactly, which shocked me to no ends as to why we signed Painter.

Good news, even though this isn't his 5th straight season backing Eli up as the original comment mentioned.

He is a solid member of this team, and a great contributor. Hint to those of you who are curious as to what I mean: Just because you see him 'holding a clipboard on Sunday' doesn't mean that is all he does. From what I understand he is a great asset in our practices during the week.

Because Campbell and Stanton have done more than Carr in their careers?

I agree about Hasselbeck, but very few teams actually have any sort of depth at QB to expect to win more than a few games with their backup at the helm. And in most cases, those teams are trying to unload that "depth" (Hasselbeck being a prime example).

Stanton can play, trust me on this. He''ll be the starter in Zona and will raise some eyebrows.
I remember when he came in against us and lit us up when he was with Detroit.

My point is that a good team has to protect itself from injury by having a competent back up QB. Carr is fried in this league.

Didn't we win that game?

Dunno ... youngsters like Stanton always have a chance to shine if given the opportunity but sight unseen (or rarely seen) I think it's unrealistic to expect that they're better. I've not seen anything from Stanton to say he's definitively better than Carr and Stanton is competing for a starting job in Arizona and being paid like it ($3M this year) vs. Carr's vet minimum deal.

In a perfect world, where money wasn't an issue, I would have wanted the Giants to grab Matt Flynn from Seattle.

The Bears are a good example - they always seem to have a competent backup. Shaun Hill has helped them out of many a jam.

Agree about Carr. I like the guy but I don't trust him at all as a quarterback.

Huh? It was just the season before last that the Bears were caught with their pants down with Caleb Hanie as a backup when Cutler got hurt. Cost them a playoff spot.

Did you watch Campbell play last year against the 49ers? He might be the worst QB ever. Drew Stanton? lol, please.

Carr is better than both of these guys.

In any event, you have made my point. Neither the Colts nor the Bears were going to the playoffs last year if their franchise QB went down.

Carr got beaten out by Troy Smith in San Francisco. That always struck me as odd as he wasn't very good. Carr got shafted big time on that team, Mike Singletary didn't even give him a chance.

I really have no opinion on Flynn, I mean he's only played in one meaningless game.
I've no clue why the Seahawks paid him as much as they did. It reminded me of the Charlie Whitehurst trade they pulled a few years back. They gave up a second-round pick, I believe?

I believe Carr is the team's best option right now as there's simply nothing else available on the market. Nothing worthwhile, at least.
I'm not entirely satisfied with him, though.
