"NFL.com and ESPN recently weighed in, and with the Giants missing the playoffs in 2012, it comes to little surprise that the Giants fell outside the top 10 in the pre-draft power rankings.

But then again, it’s only March.

Here is a look at where analysts see the Giants stacking up in 2013:

“Death by a thousand paper cuts? The New York Giants are hemorrhaging players, or so it seems. Ahmad Bradshaw ... gone. Osi Umenyiora ... gone. Kenny Phillips ... ditto. Chris Canty ... ditto ditto. Yet, can you say Big Blue is really worse? GM Jerry Reese added some small pieces, with dollars earmarked for guard Kevin Boothe and/or receiverVictor Cruzhttp://www.giants.com/assets/nflimg/icon-article-link.gif (http://www.giants.com/team/roster/victor-cruz/79cb61a9-f26c-4b06-93f8-8ba2d84e4695/).”

Right now they have a lot of questions to answer. Maybe Reese did add a couple of FA gems for cheap. Maybe his draft will be great. We just don't know yet. Right now their secondary does not look great and the DL has a lot to prove. Based on how we last saw them and the players they let go its tough to say they are going to be better on defense as of now.

I love how the experts are saying Seattle #1 and SF #2. The dynamics of the league change rapidly, I'll bet one of those two teams doesn't even make the playoffs.

Regarding SF:

Everyone knows how hard it is to repeat, yet people rarely comment on how hard it is to build off of losing the Superbowl the previous year. I think it's only happened twice... Dallas lost SB 5 and won SB 6-- then they're opponent in SB 6, the Miami Dolphins, won it the following year.

It's tough to get to the mountain top and not be rewarded. The combination of the deflating defeat and high expectations the following year usually does teams in, it seems.

Not to mention, I don't think they have their answer with Kaepernick. The pistol probably won't be nearly as successful next year and I question his ability to be an championship caliber QB as a pocket passer.

I can see why they are favoring the two teams with the two best defenses. Lots of things can happen and maybe they won't be as good this year but taking those teams with those defenses makes sense.
