The Giants signed Michael Palmer (6-5 252) as a new blocking tight end. He is very similar to previous tight end stars with the NY Giants (Jake Ballard and Kevin Boss). He is a very good blocker but impressed during the rookie mini-camp catching everything thrown to him. He has been an Atlanta Falcon for the past four years. He was behind Tony Gonzalez.

It is early but the Giants may carry four tight ends this season with Bear Pascoe, Brandon Myers, Adrian Robinson and Michael Palmer. That is not unusual because in the Super Bowl year the Giants had four tight ends. And even last season the Giants had Travis Beckum, Martellus Bennett, Bear Pascoe and Adrian Robinson on the roster.

The Giants also released Marcus Davis WR from Virginia Tech. I thought he had a good chance since he was friends with David Wilson and Jayron Holsey. However he did not impress at the rookie mini-camp. You only get one shot in this business. The Giants still need another big receiver or a return specialist. Currently have five solid receivers on the roster in Nicks, Cruz, Randle, Murphy and Jerrigan. Last year the Giants had six receivers. I would like to have Ramses Barden back at veteran minimum.

I don't see how they will be able to carry three QBs and four TEs, not saying it won't happen but...

According to many of the press guys at the rookie minicamp this weekend, Palmer really impressed. If someone stands out on his tryout you owe it to him to give it a shot.Would have to do a lot to knock out Pascoe, Robinson and Myers but you never know....

You are right, it wont happen.

But, Pascoe has basically been a wasted roster spot for a couple years now. His biggest asset to the team is the fact that he is also the backup fullback. We do need 1 on the roster, a guy who can play FB if Hyno gets hurt. But, it would be nice if that player actually had other value to the roster. Pascoe doesn't really.

As a TE, Pascoe is not at all an NFL caliber player. People keep calling him a "blocking TE" but he isn't even good at that, at least not as an end line blocking TE.

So every year we bring in guys who can possibly play backup fullback and add some other value to the team in terms of special teams, or somewhere else. Last year, Martinek was the guy they played with as a possible backup FB replacement. Maybe this year, kid Palmer is the guy.

Lol, why would a player have a good chance because he's friends with/ex-college teammates with players on your roster? That's just silly.

Myers, Bear and Robinson.. I don't think they carry 4.. I think Robinson steps up this year as the blocking TE. (I hope)

Palmer can't hurt us, so let's see if he can outperform Robinson and Bear.

Why? Is he a TE now?

I think signing Palmer is a clear sign that Bear Pascoe is now along shot to make the roster this year. TE now looks pretty solid, and Pascoe's value to the team has dropped quite a bit.

Meyers, Robinson and Palmer is probably a whole lot better than Pascoe, Beckum, Robinson and Bennett. Bennett was a good player; but I think we might actually be better off now.

I think Carr is gone. 3 TE's max. I think Bear and Palmer will fight it out for the last TE spot.

IMO its Robinson who is the odd man out. Pascoe most likely makes it being he backs up both TE and FB,while Robinson has been a healthy scratch.

Palmer's a solid aquisition actually. A decent guy to put in around the goaline and can as a extra blocker.. Hands are solid when called upon..

Robinson is a 2nd year player who Reese has been raving about. He isn't going anywhere.

All of the competition will be for the 3rd TE spot, the 1 Pascoe occupies There is a reason he has been cut/ resigned a bunch of times. If we had any other Rb or TE who could also be a backup FB, Pascoe would done in this league.

None of our TE are that good bear included. Bear is an ok TE and an ok full back. And that is really being nice hes not a starter in either position, he is serviceable and flexible but very replaceable.

They only signed Pascoe for one year. Of all of the TEs, he's the only one who can play FB if Hynoski should go down so I think he'll make the final cut.

We are mostly a passing team, when we run it is also often from single back. We really dont need a backup full back then. He also is not a great blocker many holding penalties that called back nice runs.

If we didn't need a FB we wouldn't have Hynoski. He is a gold mine for us and if he goes down for any amount of time, they will need someone to full in, no matter who that is.

He is a good enough blocker but absolutely NOT a beast. We need a FB however and he is more than adequate. I do not remember any holding penalties on him however?????? Someone else want to weigh in on this?

I think he was referring to Pascoe. He didn't play much in 2012. In fact I believe we had tackles(locklear) who played as many snaps at TE as Pascoe did. IN 2011 Pascoe played quite a bit because of all the injuries at the TE position. He led the league in holding penalties per snap for all positions. I assumed that is what appod was referring to.

Pascoe has been very lucky to date regarding circumstances with the team:

2011 preseason - Ben Patrick retires at 27 leaving an empty roster spot

2011 late season - Giants lost 2 TE to knee injuries. This left their following season in great doubt at the position. Giants had to resign Pascoe to a small contract because of the extraordinary vacancies left.

2011 offseason - Giants bungle the Ballard release and resign allowing the Pats to claim him off the wire. Extra TE roster spot avail

2012 Beckum's injury is not recovering as quickly as anticipated. The Giants keep him on the IR. Extra TE rsoer spot avail.

It isnt to say he isn't a good guy and a hard worker, but likely if any 1 of these things doesn't happen it is very possible Pascoe is no longer with this team.

pretty simple....
who ever performs the best will stay in the team. That includes mulitple resposiblities. Don't you think the Giants will try someone else out as a back up FB other than Pascoe???
I like Bear and seems to be very good team player but he is expendable to a large degree.
I like Hynoski too and I also see him getting better and his FB blocking duties too. He's a worker and he also is a student of the game. He knew his blocking technique was not right for the NFL and worked on it and got better. He will continue to do so.

now? let's see who has the better camp..not to jinx this but most times with Giants it comes down to who is healthy enough to be on the field
