Profootballtalk reports free agent Josh Cribbs is deciding between the Lions, Raiders, Giants and Jets.
Cribbs is in the Motor City on Monday after visiting Oakland and both New York teams last week. He'll be signed for his special-teams prowess, not his receiving ability. Related: Lions, Giants, Jets, Raiders

Would we have the option to keep him on the roster as just a returner though? We most likely will have 3 QBs on the roster this year too. And possibly 6 DTs. Not sure we could keep a guy who can only return kids, as good as he is.

I'd take him if we had salary cap space .............but we don't. The money can be put to better use along the OL or LB or even at DB.

and he could be our WR5.. would probally be the end of JJ

I think he will go to the team that presents the best chance for him to get on the field as more than just a return guy. I am only guessing here but I do not think that is the case here in NY.

His best bet would be to go to Detroit who is at least an up and coming team. I can't imagine him going to the Raiders or Jests unless he is strictly looking for a paycheck. I'd imagine that he would be thrilled to be a Giant and at least have a chance of winning a SB but realistically where does he fit in here?

Lions Raiders Jets or Giants? Depends if he wants to win a superbowl. Seems like a no brainer to me.

if wilson isnt handling kick offs, Cribbs is about the next best option. Can he be a gunner?

and lmfao...it'd mean nothing for JJ. what r u remnants holding onto the JJ hate for? the guys whose opinion actually matters, like KG, all speak highly of him and are excited to see what he can do if cruz no shows...

I doubt that.

Why wouldnt we? We aren't going into the year with Nassib as Eli's only backup.

People need to realize that Carr most likely isn't going to be kicked to the curb unless Nassib is able to show that he can handle all of Carrs duties and has as good of an understanding of our system as Carr has. It's not just what you see on the field. I've heard our coaches throw words like "invaluable" around when talking about the benefit that Carr provides in practices. Chances are we DO carry 3 QB's this year. It's very likely that Nassib is holding Eli's clipboard on Sundays and being mentored by Carr during the week.

If he wants to win, it's a no brainer that he'll come to the Giants. But I wouldn't doubt he joins either the Raiders or Lions for more money.

Lions would be the best choice for him IMO. Not sure they would overpay him like the Raiders or Jets would anyway.

He needs to figure out what's best for him. Obviously he wants to pick a team where he can win a super bowl, but if he goes to the Giants he really doesn't fit in anywhere. I think Detroit is his best option personally.

I think he's well aware that if he came to the Giants he would solely be on ST, and our kickoff/punt returner with Hixon being gone and Wilson transitioning more into the primary RB role. But you're exactly right, if he wants possibly bigger roles and more money, it's further West.

Isn't his career high in receptions in a season like 40?

I doubt we let go of Carr or JJ. As far as the Lions, they did sign Bush so there's a chance return duties are split and who knows if Cribbs is cool with that as a possibility, let alone reality.

Right down the hill from Central Park actually, right off of State St. About 1.5 miles from Sch'dy High School.

If you've seen the cover for "Place Beyond The Pines" that just recently came out, that Trustco Bank is located on State St, which is about half mile from me.

Zero chance of that happening. It is very obvious JJ is in the plans for 2013. The Giants brass are looking forward to what he can do in Cruz's absence.

Well not really. If its close between the teams and he goes for the highest bidder, then its all about money.
In our case I don't think we would be in the same ballpark as some other teams. We are right up against it. As a matter of fact, just to sign him to a minimal contract would mean we'd have to cut some vets.

And forget a title. I think he just wants to be on a team that wins more games than they lose.

The ST rule change completely devalued guys like Cribbs. Not sure how much it's worth to pay someone (to say nothing of a roster spot) to watch a ball sail past the end zone. Would love to see someone step up on punt returns, though.

Of those 4 teams, If Cribbs wants a SB ring, he'll come to the Giants and quickly end questions about the KR and PR positions.

The Greene hype will die down soon. Just wait for the next great college linebacker to become the savior of this franchise. I wonder which one they will choose to bandwagon this upcoming season.

Who knows, maybe bc of the lack of LB talent, more college teams take the athletic players and use them there and the LB position progresses...

I would think Cribbs would want to go where he has a chance at cracking the starting lineup.

The Lions, Jets or Raiders could give him that. On the Giants, the likelihood would be that he'd be a ST specialist and that's it.

The Lions would make the most sense (barring some whacky money offer from someone else).

Maybe but at this point in his career perhaps he just wants to know what it is like to win after being on a loser team for his entire career. Giants give him the best shot at that right away.

Ok, saying he is competing for the backup spot and not carrying a 3rd QB are 2 completely different things. Even if Nassib does win the backup job, we are not going into the year with ONLY Nassib behind Eli. What if something happened to Eli early on? Nassib would be a young rookie, not ready for that roll yet to be thrown in the mix. Maybe by the end of the year, MAYBE. But I just dont see how the Giants could keep only Nassib as the Giants backup QB. As much as Carr sucks, he would be better then Nassib right off the bat. Coughlin wont rely on a rookie backing up Eli and being the only backup. Dont see it.

Exactly what I've been saying since we drafted Nassib. You are completely right.

Also, I keep repeating it like a broken record -- but don't forget the value that Carr adds during the week in practices. Everything I ever hear is that he is a HUGE asset for us on pretty much every day but Sunday

Obviously not, otherwise he would have signed with us already.
