Excerpt: "New York Giants punter Steve Weatherford will soon have some new bling to go along with his Super Bowl XLVI ring as he's been named the 2013 Giants "Man of the Year" and will receive the Wellington Mara (http://www.giants101.com/tag/wellington-mara/) Award for his outstanding community service.

"He was a very philanthropic guy, and it was important for him to give back and take care of his community," Weatherford recently told the Seattle Tribune-Star (http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:bSH_alynA44J:www.seattlepi.com/news/article/Giants-punter-uses-Lombardi-replica-to-inspire-4444769.php+&cd=20&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us), adding that it's "very humbling" and "kind of surreal" to receive the award.

Weatherford has been a very key member of the Giants since his arrival in the summer of 2011 as competition to push then-punter Matt Dodge, but ended up taking the starting job and hasn't looked back since." Read more...

I'm so glad a man of his character was rescued from the clutches of the Jets...

Its funny, my dad is a Jet fan(I ended up being a Giant fan, thanks Grandpa) and he always mentions that once a player leaves the Jets, they turn into a superstar. I couldn't agree more.

I believe after superstar you hit "icon" status. After that it's living legend, and then immortal.

For the record I don't personally think he is going to become an icon of the game, but he will remain a superstar. More power to him if I'm wrong though.
