I mean, he was not great, he was good but I have respect for that guy because after Phil Simms (Dave Brown, Kent Graham, Tommy Maddox, Danny Kannell) he gave us hope with great moments after a disastrous NYG QB's decade, sometimes looked brilliant...

well, his terrible 2003 performance is what gave us the pieces to trade up in the 2004 draft, so there's that

He was no Joe Montana but he threw a nice ball with zip and was pretty accurate too from my memories. I liked the dude.

As you said, after Brown and co, it was nice to have a decent qb. He did have some really good games for us.

41-0 is still one of the best moments for me as a Giant fan.

Collins was a good QB....but not a great one.

I could pretty much tell in the 1st quarter whether it was going to be a good game or not....he was either on, or off, on any given day.

He had a pretty lengthy delivery, too.

Collins rebounded from a low life qb to a good qb for the Giants! they were the ones who took a chance and that set his career!

for the things he said i lost some respect early in his career! even when he played for the Giants i was skeptical!

he never did anything else but showing that side early makes me believe hes naturally that way!

He was. Serviceable QB when he was here. He had some shining moments but for the most part he was okay.

Do I like him the way you do?.....No.

He was a heck of a lot more than serviceable. Despite his flaws as a QB, he could make every throw on the field. He was a prolific passer when he was given time to throw. 2 4000 yard seasons in an era where 4000 yards was less common than it is now.

His biggest problem is that he would get rattled when there was shaky protection.

Kerry was good as long as we kept the pressure of him. The moment he starts getting hit or pressured he got rattled and started throwing the ball up for grabs. He was like that ever since he got his jaw broke in Carolina.

I dont know that I've ever seen another QB get as shaken up as Collins when pressure got to him. It was almost like a switch went off. All you had to do was hit him, and he never looked the same for the remainder of the game.

I agree. I would much rather have a QB who has to overcome his character flaw and post a 0TD 4INT performance on the biggest stage than someone who doesn't have those problems to begin with.

GO COLLINS

You did have an incredibly strong and accurate arm but only when you threw on rhythm in a straight drop back. Your reads and check downs were just average and that Super Bowl performance was really sorry.

Collins would have been an elite QB if he did not have the early issues at Carolina.

41-0 is still one of the best moments for me as a Giant fan.

Then there was the following 35-7 game... Sums up the Kerry Collins era.

Ok maybe I shouldn't have said great, but he wasn't nearly as bad as people made him out to be.

I insist, after a poor decade of QB for the Giants (Kannell, Graham, Brown) he gave us some great moments after 10 years of embarrassments...

Certainly better than the game after that

Which pretty much sums up Kerry Collins with the Giants (and most of his career in fact) ... great one game, disasterous the next.

My wife and I are friends will Lomas Brown and he told us the first time he got hit in that SB, his eyes got as big as saucers. That's when they knew they were in trouble.
Having said that though, when you protected him, he could make every throw on the field. I also love the way he worked in the community as well. His tenure here was nothing but positive.
He's not the player that Eli is obviously, but I still think he was a great Giant.

Not sure I'll ever consider him a "great" Giants but I definitely look back on Collins in a positive light.

He was a breath of fresh air after Brown, Kanell, Graham, and Maddox. I was like, "Wow, that's what a real QB looks like." Yeah, he had flaws. He couldn't throw on the run. But if you gave him a pocket, he'd light up the other team. After the Ravens, I knew he wasn't ever going to win us a SB. He was good, but not great.

I always liked Kerry and always will. He is a genuinely good person who does more for the community then most players who earned 100x what he did. I like redemption stories as well and was glad to see him turn his life around. I always rooted for his success when he was picked up by a team for 'one last ride' over the past few years.

No doubt. Kerry was a very good pick-up for us. He needed a second chance and god knows we needed a half-way decent quarterback.
