Excerpt: "Once upon a time, New York Giants (http://www.giants101.com/tag/new-york-giants/) head coach Tom Coughlin (http://www.giants101.com/tag/tom-coughlin/) was on the verge of getting fired. Not just once, but twice.

Coughlin was on the hot seat after the 2006 season and he responded in 2007 by going 10-6, making the playoffs as the No. 5 seed and winning Super Bowl XLII by knocking off the New England Patriots 17-14.

Four years later, and facing a third-straight missed postseason, Coughlin was on the hot seat at 7-7. His Giants respond by finishing 9-7, winning the NFC East and entering the playoffs at No. 4, eventually winning Super Bowl XLVI by again beating the Patriots 21-17.

Now that Coughlin has won two Super Bowls in his 10 seasons as Giants head coach, the debate has been talked about if he will be a future inductee for the Hall of Fame whenever the 66-year-old decided to call it a career. One thing that is not mistaken is that he is certainly near the top of the list of active head coaches in the league. Two ESPN analysts even put Coughlin in their Top 20 of all-time head coaches in the NFL (http://www.giants101.com/tag/nfl/).

Ricky Reilly has Coughlin ranked (http://espn.go.com/espn/story/_/page/greatestcoachreilly/my-top-20-nfl-coaches) No. 18 all time on his list, with him being the only Giants coach on the list. As Reilly describes why he made it:

"Won two Super Bowls with The Wrong Manning," he said.

Former New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs head coach Herman Edwards ranked (http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/9295272/nfl-herm-edwards-ranks-top-20-coaches-all) Coughlin No. 15 on the list. Edwards on why he chose Coughlin:

"A strict disciplinarian, Coughlin simply knows how to win. With two Super Bowl titles now under his belt, he's in the Hall of Fame discussion," he said." Read more...

I may not always agree with his approach, but I do respect and deeply admire Coughlin.
He's just a great person who cares about this organization and his players deeply.

....Coughlin 2016!

How do you rank TC at #18 but don't have Parcells on your list? Craziness.

And Jimmy Johnson a better coach than either of them? Definition of a great coach is being able to reproduce your results. JJ couldn't do that (with Marino no less).

Rick Reilly is a real twat. I worked with the guy once and really wanted to pee on his shoes. He's too arrogant to only be a writer.

Vince Lombardi, Tom Landry, Bill Belichick... all these guys could have been Giants HC.
