Eli's only lost to the Patriots once, right -- the 16-0 game? Or am I forgetting another game?

and that 2007 week 17 loss was about as much of a win as a loss can be. we actually were looking at it like a win as fans, the players were as well as were the coaches lol. eli played amazingly as did the offense.

I don't want my team to ever look at a loss as a win

That's the 16-0 game he was talking about.

Yes, that's the only time Eli's lost to Brady, he wasn't around for the 03 match-up - http://scores.espn.go.com/nfl/recap?gameId=231012017

Pats beat us in the last game of the 2007 regular season 38-35 to complete their undefeated regular season.

It's a picture from the OTAs, he's had to throw to Jernigan all day.

Ah, I see.

Sort of a strange way to refer to the game (I thought he was talking about a 16-0 score), but I now see that we are talking about the same game.

The defense also left the field losing the game both times. They had just given up the winning score in 2007 when Corey Webster fell down defending Moss in the end zone. That could have been how our 2007 run ended.

Oh, stop. A defense can pitch a shut out all game before letting up a field goal, and they would be considered "leaving the field losing the game."

What about the defense in 46 that held the Pats scoreless after the opening drive of the second half and had to watch offense potentially die the pain of a thousand deaths with field goals. To frame the defense as "leaving the field losing", particularly in 46, is fallacious rhetoric.

Eli had great drives, well one greatly executed drive, and one dramatic drive, but the defense did most of the heavy lifting both times.

I don't intend to turn this into an offense-vs-defense argument. Of course the defense was magnificent. My point is simply that if not for those two last drives we lose.

Especially in 42 the NE offense finally clicked with 6 minutes left and they scored closing in on 2 minutes. We had to fake injuries on defense to slow them down.

In 46 NE had two massive drives closing out the 2nd quarter and starting up the 3rd. And we have to be thankful Wes Welker doesn't make the catch he makes 99 times out of 100.

So anyway, what I said remains a fact. The defense left the field losing the game both times, and had just given up the winning TD in 42.

I understand what you're saying, and I agree with the notion that not only is the O versus D argument pointless (Unless the only points scored are defensive) but it's been beaten to death already.

Someone innocuously posted an Eli meme as a joke - Harooni does what he does - But then people get just as hyperbolic in the opposite direction to defend Eli, often throwing the D under the bus in those games to raise Eli up. Not to parse words, but really, "left the field losing" may be factually accurate, but ignores the context of the game and means nothing in regards to their dominating performance.

If you're going to use that logic, then it was the defense that nullified the Patriots' final drives (albeit, hail marys) in both Super Bowls. Brady was dead-on both times, and the defense stopped him.

Emotionally? Sure. They lost.

In terms of their actual performance in that game? Absolutely not. Their defense in SB 42 specifically played great. Their defense played resiliently in 46 as well, bailing out their offense by holding us to field goals. As if saying, "PLEASE offense, put the game out of reach - here's the ball back AGAIN."

Our defense pretty much did the same thing, and was probably equally exasperated. Thankfully, Manning to Manningham happened and finally broke through.

Yes, that's perfectly put. The offense played "well enough".
