Excerpt: "Stevie Brown was a revelation for the Giants in 2012. Can he do it again in 2013?

Safety Stevie Brown (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/109254/stevie-brown) is next on our list as we continue our look at the 90-man roster the New York Giants (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/new-york-giants) will bring to training camp in late July.

2012 Season In Review

Brown came to the Giants after failing to make an impact with the Oakland Raiders (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/oakland-raiders) or Indianapolis Colts (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/indianapolis-colts) in his first two seasons. He definitely made an impact with the Giants. He had a team-high eight interceptions -- second in the NFL -- and forced two fumbles while starting 11 games, helping the Giants defense finish fourth in the league in takeaways with 35.

He needs to play his position better for sure.

Stevie Brown is from the town I went to high school in. I'm a few years older than he is but he went to high school (East Columbus High) when my brother went and played and he dominated everyone then; he played almost every position too. I don't know the guy too well but my brother does and he seems to think there's a lot of upside for Brown. I was surprised by his play when he stepped in for KP and after having our system under his belt for a year now, I can see him having a bigger impact, less blown coverages at least.

So I keep going back and forth on Stevie Brown. Ive seen a few posts in threads regarding Brown that hate on him insisting that his play was suspect and that he was just in the right place at the right time for all his interceptions. But u don't coincidentally get 8 picks in 11 starts. Not saying he didn't get burnt and blow coverages sometimes because he did but he has a nac for reading quarterbacks and stepping in front of balls and making plays. I love his intangibles: height, weight, and speed. And obviously his ball skills. Idk, im optimistic of course, but can he perform at the same level he did last year? I think so. I don't think he'll be quite as effective though but everything is speculation at this point. Giants defense has something to prove this year and I hope we play like it as a cohesive unit because our division as always is scary fast and talented especially at WR and destroys opposing secondaries

I think Brown will know his responsibilities better this year and I see no reason for him to play anything but better than last year...

I respect that. The only reason im not sure he'll have the same year as last year is because quarterbacks might second guess throwing his way a little more which would be great. Anything to keep the ball in the QB's hand to give our d line time to get to them. Although Brown did make a lot of picks and breakups in the middle of the field if im not mistaken... Which is harder to avoid then one particular side of the field for a QB.

Reese let KP go for a reason... If Stevie is good enough for Reese, he's good enough for me.

If Stevie Brown was our draft pick, there'd be no question of whether he's legit or not. People focus on the fact that two other teams let him go.

Brown had one good year and I hope he competes well for us again this year; it would be nice to see him step up but I think there are a couple of guys on the roster (Mundy and Hill) that may press him for playing time. I'm liking our mix of Safeties this year.

you are right. Some teams just have no real sense of developing players. some teams seem to think in my opinion that, they got the playerand let him play and figure it out.
