Per Pro Football Talk on Twitter:

"Per source with knowledge of negotiations, long-term deal between Victor Cruz and the Giants is very close. It could come as soon as today."

Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports tweeted that he's hearing the same and added:

"Also told to expect somewhere between $8m-$9m APY on the Cruz deal."

Like the title says, folks, today could be the day.

Let's all salsa...

Sounds to me as if we've just converted from the 2-yard line but it's gone upstairs for review...:p

$8.5m APY would make him the highest paid slot receiver if you exclude Percy Harvin. Would also have him as the 12th highest paid WR in terms of APY!

You've got to say, the kid deserves it. 12th is about where is he in terms of production!

Now for the term and guarantee. The initial figures will almost certainly change somewhat after the contract is releasaed by the NFL and people stop guessing.

Good for Vic. Not so good for the rest of the team. Resources are not finite. I wish all reports of player contracts were banned from the media. Enough already. It's like we need a college education in marketing or business to be a sports fan nowadays.

The rest of the team will be fine. Now on to Nicks.

Its a bargain if he plays like 2011 and Sept of 2012

If he plays like his last 12 games (40% of his entire career for those who seem to only remember the highlight reel) - we've been robbed by about 2 mil/year.

Fingers crossed he gets back to form.

3 years is probably Cruz's comprise. We weren't going to give him the $11 million APY that he wanted so the only way he agreed to sign is if its a shorter deal, which gives him the opportunity to get another pay day in 2016.

Moke
07-08-2013, 01:14 PM

UKAnt14

Yeah, it is..I actually don't mind it though.Don't mind it at all. Boy if he gives us three years of 2011 Cruz as he looks to earn his big pay day then I'll be happy! If he flops, we don't have him for that long!

Scratch that, Jay Glazer has just tweeted that he's agreed to terms on a FIVE year $43 million deal on top of his tender! That's $8.6 APY!

WOW! It's technically a six-year deal worth $45.879M which is little over $7.5M a year!

Cruz will be a Giant thru 2018!!

NYGabriel

Cruz probably walked into his local mcdonalds and saw Steve Smith flipping burgers. Up to 9mil is a lot though. Hopefully he doesn't start to tip toe around the field like Jacobs. If he can keep up his production then it's a good deal.

If it's a 5 year deal that starts after the 1 year tender, then you are absolutely right. With only $15.6M guaranteed, it seems like a good deal for us.

Are we sure that "on top of his 1 yr tender" means this, or that he's getting 5 yrs 43 million plus 2 million from current tender? (Edit: i.e. a 5 yr 45 mil deal)
