Excerpt: "The New York Giants (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/new-york-giants) brought wide receiver Louis Murphy (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/71520/louis-murphy) in as a free agent with the hope he would bring big-play capability to an already high-scoring offense. Let's look at Murphy as we continue our player-by-player breakdown of the 90-man roster the Giants will bring to training camp later this month.

2012 Season In Review

Murphy caught 25 passes for 336 yards (13.4 yards per catch) and one touchdown for the Carolina Panthers (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/carolina-panthers) in his only season there after three years with the Oakland Raiders (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/oakland-raiders). His longest catch was for 55 yards." Read more...

I guess I mean that in a way that if you are not one of the top 3 WR then the Giants will use you very little. All depends on how Randle does. That will go hand in hand with Murph's success as well.

"in four- and five-wide receiver sets".

I never thought I would hear that term associated with the Giants. lol

I will have to see it to believe it! honestly, i dont think Killdrive can "craft" such plays...

it doesnt have to be 4 wide sets. i'd bet anything he lines up for nicks rr or cruz dependin on the formation.

Bill Belicheck to his defense next February, "Don't let them beat you with Nicks and Cruz. Make them go to Robinson or Murphy."

Maybe we finally got a guy who can catch up to one of Eli's play-action bombs.

Now if we can only teach him to catch with his hands instead of his body.

of coursehe will sub in one or all at somepoint. Not really a stretch to come up with that scenario. if effective he will be used for way more than 4 wide sets

Assuming he makes the 53 man roster.

Big assumption considering the cast of characters we have.

Anyone know if he can contribute on STs?

then who do you think will be kick returner?

I'm expecting Murphy to contribute granted he makes the final cut. He's never had a QB like Eli throwing him the ball so I'm interested to see what he can do.

If he doesn't pan out, no harm no foul really.

hopefully not Wilson...he was very good but dont want to see him hurt.
they have a two other RBs on the roster that can. Holsley maybe too.

He doesn't have any return stats to date.

OK....for some reason I thought I saw that in an article. I guess not.
I still think he will make it if he remains uninjured through camp.

Like his speed, just hope that it translates into some deep catches, that will certainly open up things for the rest of the receivers....

I can see Eli chucking it deep to him on 3rd and short a few times a game.

I cant wait to see him play. I think if he has no problem catching the ball and running good routes our offense is going to be very deadly this year.

i cant wait to see murphy in this offense. i know he didnt display much in carolina, but that highlight clip imo does show he does have game. we'll see tho.

The video wasn't bad- I just question if he has the ability to use his speed to burst through tackles. I didnt see any of that beside the first play of the video where he made a TD at the goal line.

He had 1-2 other situations in the clip provided where he could have seriously burned the defense for a score

"in four- and five-wide receiver sets".

I never thought I would hear that term associated with the Giants. lol

The run and shoot offense that Gilbride was a partial founder of was based on 4 WR sets.

Giants just normally did not have much talent at WR with Gilbride here, and Coughlin very much likes the pounding running game.

But if there is one thing Gilbride can do, and do well, its multiple WR sets.

Murph def makes the team over Barden for sure.

I just hope we can move outside of shotgun draws and use effective 4 WR sets :)

Honestly I think if we hadnt gotten Cruz done long term, we woulda seen a ton of Murphy out of the slot. I really do believe that. Now with him signed long term, it kinda relegates him back to being a fall back plan/insurance policy for any of the 3 WR spots.

that said, he is gonna impact a bunch of games for our benefit. i am stoked to see this guy work off Nicks, Cruz, n Randle. I understand some of the criticism/skepticism for his year at Carolina and final year at Oakland. But, he also has never gotten to work with a group of wrs this stacked. he doesnt have to be the guy, or even the 2nd, 3rd guy. he;s just gotta come in and be like a weapon x. kinda like jacoby jones was for Balt.

There aren't very many runs you can do from the shotgun. And his "draws" are often quite different.

And it's one of the giants most reliable and effective plays, as well

dont be surprised if we see the BB defense a lot in 2013. teams are gonna have to make a concerted decision; which 2 targets do u take away (bc defenses can take away 2 sometimes even 3 targets away if the gameplan is solid enough and the players perform)? Nicks n Cruz seems obvious, but if you double/bracket coverage them, the other WRs n TE's will have a ton of room to take advantage of.
im not saying the BB D approach is going to work, i dont think theres a D that can stop us. the only people capable of doing that is our offense.

Nah, it will be our other ex defense signal caller, John Fox saying that... :-)

If Eli continue to throw to the open receiver, this will be a banner air game I think.
