Excerpt: "With the Giants off until training camp, we're periodically taking a look at what the coaches are saying about how their positions looked this offseason in OTAs.

Today, we look at Robert Nunn's thoughts on the defensive line.

Young guns: Osi Umenyiora (http://espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=4514)'s departure and Jason Pierre-Paul (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/13256/jason-pierre-paul)'s rehab will allow the Giants to take a long look at some of the younger pass rushers they have behind Justin Tuck (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/8488/justin-tuck) and Mathias Kiwanuka (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/9618/mathias-kiwanuka).

Adrian Tracy (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/13475/adrian-tracy), third-round pick Damontre Moore (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/15858/damontre-moore), Justin Trattou (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/14673/justin-trattou) and Adewale Ojomo (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/15497/adewale-ojomo) will compete to be a part of the defensive end rotation.

Tom Coughlin said he was impressed at times with Tracy and Moore in OTAs and minicamp.

"Damontre has come in and has shown flash in some good things," Nunn said during OTAs. "He has a long way to go -- a lot to learn in a short time."

"I'm really pleased with the way Adrian Tracy [has progressed]," the defensive line coach later added. "He is further along right now than he has ever been in his career at this time. He has got to keep moving forward and come in here in great shape, which I know he will. He has proven, as a special teams player, that he has got to go out there and be consistent playing the run and pass on Sundays on defense." Read more...

need some of these guys to get NFL ready. With a healthy rotation the DL could be back to what the design is supposed to be....harassing the opposing QB....

One of these guys needs to take on the Tollefson role. Beast on STs and don't give the opposing oline a breather when Tuck, Kiwi, and/or JPP are sucking wind.

Think the DT situation will be better but the DE's are a huge question mark right now. This defense does not look like it will improve and may even take a step back this year.

If the D performs anywhere close to last year, we aren't winning the Super Bowl, let alone making the playoffs.

I don't think that it is possible to take a step back from last year . . . .

You can hate bend but not break all you want but they didn't allow a lot of points and they did force turn overs.

We need Jomo to put his arms around his nephew :cool:I need to sit my cousin down and have a heart to heart with him. There is an opportunity here for him but not if he doesn't develop a complete game.

On the other hand, if he can stay healthy I have a good feeling about Tracey. He has always been impactful when given a chance to play and he possesses a disruptive burst which you just can't coach.

What we really need this year at DE is for JPP and JT to return to form. If that happens, everything elsw will fit in nicely.

Even if the line takes a step back this year, it doesn't mean more losses.

Most important stats aren't yards allowed, its least points allowed and most turnovers forced. The opposing team can get yards all they want, as long as they're not scoring.

Now if the offense holds on to the ball and puts up points, possibly wins time of possession, guess what, bend but don't break works WELL in that situation. This is what the entire league is moving toward.

If Kiwanuka weren't in the mix, Tracy would be next man up. I still hope Ojomo develops.
