10 Years ago! Pre-Eli!

Who were your favorite players? Who did you not like? Who did you think would be the next coach or starting QB of the future?

Ryan Clark is the one who got away..

Tim Carter on the IR, NO WAY! lol. Also seeing Will Allen and Will Peterson on the IR after what the Giants invested in them had to hurt. Frank Walker was a starter I believe. I dont even remember the other 4 CBs, lol.

Under Accorsi we seldom developed good young players and to be honest if you made it into the practice squad you were only cannon fodder. Not to mention you had no prayer of being given a chance unless you were drafted by the Giants and high. I feel under Reese we can get good players from anywhere at any time. And that is the recipe for a healthy organization. See Stevie Brown for instance. Or Ahmad Bradshaw.

Wow, I really forgot about a lot of those guys

They were the days of the Jeff Hatch experiment. I'm not sure he ever got on the field in a real game, did he? LOL

Shaun Williams was a beast against the run, and yeah, Ryan Clark definitely got away.

That's because EA rated having physical talent higher than having it all together in your head. That's how you ended up with guys like Shockey, Tiki, and Osi. Reese is much more likely to take on a physical project than a mental one... it's just that the projects that go south for Reese we just tend to think of as bad players but otherwise nice people (Austin, Barden, Scott, Dodge)... guys that didn't develop properly in the head that got drafted by EA still played because of their physical talent, but were just all-around jerkasses and/or divas, especially in the Fassel years (before TC arrived to restore discipline)...

EA almost always missed on first round talent, except Eli. William Joseph? Ron Dayne? Shockey at 6? Will Allen? Shawn Williams? Ike Hilliard? Cedric Jones? Petitgout? That kind of stuff gets you fired. He did manage better later on though with guys like Osi, Snee, Tuck, Kiwi, Jacobs, and hiring Coughlin.

Crazy that I remember most of those names. Only because me and my buddy would go up to Albany 02-04 and would stay up late the night before memorizing names, numbers, and headshots so when guys passed we knew who they were no matter what and could get autographs. Pathetic and creepy? Of course it was but hey I was 13.

This brings back some memories. Talk about a swing and a miss with William Joseph, guy couldn’t play if his life depended on it.
Big fan of Barrow, was happy when we got him from Carolina and he teamed up with former Miami U teammate Jessie Armstead.
How can we forget Frank Walker, guy was good for 3 pass interference penalties a game.
Will Allen and Will Peterson, those two were supposed to be our corners for the next decade. Oops…

Is it sad that I consider most of those guys "new players" even though most of them are out of the league now?

I was so pissed off when they let Armstead go to the Skins.

Ernie died for me that day.

I was upset with that too. And I was upset we let Barry Cofield go there as well. I always felt Barry was underrated. But I understand money was an issue there.

Such an uninspiring roster! Mike Barrow was one of my favorite Giants at that time, outside the greats (Tiki/Strahan). Could the offense be any more generic than it was? I mean, you have a rocket arm QB throwing to two possession WRs.

If I remember correctly, back then when Toomer was younger, he was more of a home run threat. It was as he got older and we got Plax that he became more of a possession guy.

I guess your right. He averaged 15.5 YPC from 99 to 03. Not bad really. Never had double digit TD's though. Mostly a 5-6 TD guy. I'd call him a double-tripler hitter versus home run I guess.

Regardless of his status, I'll always remember him as a commensurate Giant, with some absolute clutch catches in our XLII run.

Eh, whatever. Still not a great pick. Had a great rookie year then was ok after that but a head case. Ed Reed was picked 10 picks later

Seems like ages ago, I really thought Shockey would be one of the best tight ends after his rookie year dude always played with passion those early years. I also liked Jones and Short at LB even though they didn't show up all the time.

I only remember that one tackle from the show "hey rookie" he must have been scraped in the off season.
