I can't remember the last time the Giants franchised someone. IDK who our FA's are this year but I doubt any of them deserve to be paid like top 5 at his position.

Here's our UFA list for 2012:

http://www.kffl.com/static/nfl/features/freeagents/fa.php?option=By+Team&y=2012

Goff and TT are coming off injuries so I doubt they'll command a ton of interest outside of the Giants.

MM has never solidified into a real threat as a WR so I don't see a bidding war going for his services (I also don't see him as a Giant next year).

Ross we can't get rid of fast enough.

Mackenzie is the only question mark ... not so much for desirability but we don't have better to replace him currently (although I could see Boothe in this spot if he can manage it).

Everyone else are bit players.

None are tag worthy.

never. that would make him a top 10 payed WR in the nfl. he is nowhere near worth that value.

I dont think the gmen have ever franchise tagged a player.

I wanted to say they never have cause in all honesty I can not remember them ever doing it,
but as soon as I make that statement someone on this web site would have come up with someone 15 yrs ago that I forgot about...so I made the safe comment.

thanks!

that states non exclusive. placing an exclusive franchise tag puts the player as a top 10 payed player in the NFL for that season (maybe even top 5). I dont remember that happening with BJ

I remember on NFL Network they said the owners in the new CBA decreased the numbers that franchise tag does give a player

Brandon Jacobs was tagged.

http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2009/02/new_york_giants_designate_bran.html

And before someone says it, I know he eventually signed a long term contract, but we still tagged him before the deadline.

G-Man67

thanks for info on Brandon

altho rumor has it that Brandon thought he could remove the franchise tag simply by touching a teammate

fansince69

I am sure his team mates would prefer if he continued to touch himself

Franchise a punter???? Wtf?

The Bengals franchised their kicker in 09. It can happen. Either him or McKenzie? or the most popular and most likely choice of No One.

Although the franchise tag is used to prevent losing a valuable player to FA, people should remeber it comes with a Price Tag.

"As of the new CBA, the franchise tag offer will be the average of the top paid player at the respective position over the last five seasons. This will actually reduce the amount that a team would need to offer a player."

Also, teams will be landing first round draft picks cheaper than ever for years to come thanks to the new CBA. Theoretically, leaving more cap room to resign players, FAs, re-negotiate contracts, etc...

But you can also see, it wouldn't take much money for the Giants to franchise Weatherford even though it is very unlikely. lol
