Great article great read, always knew about what could have happened but for Ernie to say that he would have given up on Eli, but would never let them get Osi, and was ready to take Big Ben, WOW, good scoop by Peter King. Osi deserves to retire a NY GIANT, REESE MAKE THIS HAPPEN.

Because it only takes one guy to make a contract work.....

If Osi is realistic and is willing to structure a deal that will work for the team, it could happen.

If not, it won't.

To this day, don't understand how San Diego got away with their demands. They would have been screwed after drafting Eli if no one gave them what they wanted. They should have traded the pick BEFORE selecting Eli. After they selected him, the value they got back should have been greatly diminished. They acted like they were in a position of strength. It was a 3 strong QB draft and the 1 they drafted made it clear he didn't want to be there. Can'treally give credit to EA for not dealing even more of a ransom.

Why do other NFL teams help teams out of bad situations? Aren't teams competing against each other? New England should have been paying Matt Cassel more to backup Tom Brady, rather than KC bailing them out with a first round pick to boot. Wonder what will happen with Matt Flynn now too. But I digress.

If you read Accorsi's book, he makes it clear that after getting 'cheap' and letting John Elway slip through his fingers, he wasn't going to let that happen again for a QB that he really believed in.

he's downplaying it now saying that Ben was 2nd on their board and they were ready to take him if the price got too high.

Accorsi was ahead of his time with the passrushers. Basically the Chargers wanted Osi and we gave them a 5th round pick instead.

Funny how the price/value of that deal has changed. 5 years ago it looked like we overpaid.

Now? With Rivers still struggling to make a playoff name for himself asa QB, merriman in buffalo, it looks like a great deal for us.

Osi looked good at the end of the prior season though. Think he even blocked a punt in the last game. Also, he was a 2nd round pick just the year before. Just seems outrageous that San Diego asked for him in the first place, AS WELL as all the picks. That **** should have gotten them blackballed from deals.

That was 2004, Osi is 7 years older now.

Of course Accorsi wouldn't trade him then....it's funny re-reading the stuff from that draft.

Only AJ Smith, his mom and a few morons here still think SD got the better end of that deal.

give it a rest, no one cares to talk about trading osi 1 game away from the SB..

what we would LOVE to talk about is trading you away to another teams message board. No OP needed in the trade, just go ahead and take you from us.

I thought the Patriots franchised him after the first season he played to drive up his price knowing that Brady was coming back?

They franchise tagged him so they could trade him. But if you wanted Cassel, why not wait until they rescind the franchise tag or leave New England having to pay Cassel the franchise rate to backup Brady. There the ones in a bad spot.

And even king wrote as I have said when the draft occurred. SD never wanted Eli, they took him to save face after the ryan leaf pick and a few other mistakes. There main guy was Rivers.

So if that didn't happen we would have taken Ben.

I am very happy w/the way it went down, from day 1 and especially now. Yet if we had to give up Osi for Eli I still would have done it, but you cannot knock Osi 4 what he has done for the Giants.
