View Full Version : The apology thread

at one time or another this season, i think every poster on this board (self included) has bashed Reese, Coughlin, Fewell and Gilbride - either all of them or some of them. I owe them an apology (in my case Reese and Fewell) - they stuck to their guns, and we have a good shot at making another SB. At this point, with a couple more good games, Fewell and Gilbride will be mentioned as HC candidates, and TC will be writing his own contract extension. Amazing turnaround.

I've liked Coughlin, but lost respect for him in the 2010 Eagles meltdown when he allowed premature celebration before the worst collapse in franchise history. Truth be told I wanted him fired for the 2008 meltdown after Plax shot himself, biggest wasted opportunity ever.

All the numbers and statistics show just bad things, things that should get somebody fired. Things that usually mean losing football.

I guess it can't account for magic. Sorry, Tom.

There is no doubt that Osi is a talented pass rusher. There is no doubt that he has a great ability to force fumbles as well. He made a huge play yesterday on the Rodgers fumble.

My problem with Osi is his poor lane discipline, his tendancy to bite on misdirection in the running game, his tendancy to take plays, quarters, halves and sometimes games off. His effort is at best "uneven". Its clear that when the limelight is on him he will give good effort. Its when its not that Osi is a problem.

I actually didn't even know Osi was on the field until the second half.

i saw quite a few good plays by the giants.
but we already knew that we have a talented offense and GB's defense sucks.
but what we saw yesterday was poor execution of GB's high powered offense ,
not an awesome Giants' defensive beatdown.
we forced how many punts ?
their receivers ran wide open all day
Rodgers was off and and they had the dropsies.

If nothing else, after having an atrocious call go against us early (the Jennings fumble) and led to a TD it would've been so easy for the guys to pack it in. The coaching staff kept their heads in the game.

Oh right, I'm arguing with stormblue, who even said if the giants win the SB coughlin should be fired because we haven't won "more" of them.

krygny
01-16-2012, 03:26 PM
The ones who should really apologize are those who were actually rooting for us to lose against the Jets and the Cowboys because "this team doesn't deserve to be in the playoffs" and "even if we make the payoffs we'll be one and done" and "if we make the playoffs, Coughlin, Kildrive and Fewell won't be fired".

I never bash, I criticize (when I think criticism is warranted). And I never, EVER root for the Giants to lose just so there will be coaches fired or players cut.

In my view his "freelancing" represents a lack of discipline when his desire to make a big play (and draw attention to King Osi)overrides his obligation to honor his responsibilities that may be mundane, but help his team win games.

I disagree. I think its a player using his instincts to try to help his team. Same thing guys like Polamalu do all the time. I don't hear their fans blasting them every time they allow a huge catch because they abandoned their coverage responsibility.

i did not trash any coaches or the GM!

my hatred was focused on the injuries ... our stud CB out for year, our stud return guy out for year, our young stud MLB out for year ... that is tough to overcome, but we have done it so far

i wasn't feeling great coming into the season, i'll be honest ... we didnt finish well the prior season and we didnt appear to have upgraded the team, but that seemed to have to do with the Salary Cap and, like, Oakland overpaying Boss, etc., but I always say it is a young mans game and I agree with Reese building the team thru the draft and with young players like Cruz

the one move i woulda made was to get a veteran LB esp. with Goff down and it did lead to us getting a little desparate and having to pull Blackburn off the couch, but he has done pretty well, so it's all good

Osi's first sack last week was directly attributable to Tuck running an outside stunt and tying up two blockers.

I don't recall Tuck advertising that. He simply celebrated with Osi and went back to doing his job.

He should have gone to the sidelines and demanded more money on that spot, I guess.

So if we win the Super Bowl, you're fine with the coaching staff. But if we lose the SB, then it's time to blow up the whole system, bring in other coordinators (it doesn't matter who, ... anybody who's available) and start over from scratch with new offensive and defensive systems.

You blow up a 4-12 team. You don't blow up a 9-7 team that goes to a conference championship (or further). Unless you're the lunatic who owns the Washington Foreskins or the maniac who owns the Dallas Cowboys. The only team we have to worry about in the NFC East is the Eagles because they're the only ones who understand stability, even after a bad season.

Dear Mr. Gilbride,
For 6 years the Giants have had a stout offensive line, 2 very good running backs, several very good receivers and a pro-bowl quarterback. You have done everything in your power to ensure we have had a smart, balanced, effective offense. You failed. Eli Manning has been carrying your bags for all 6 years. For that I am not sorry.

I have to apologize to Mr Hakeem Nicks.

While I never doubted his ability or value to the team, a month or so ago I posted that I would trade him and two picks for Clay Matthews.

While I felt at the time that there would be merit to a trade like that because at the time there was no defensive leadership on the field, I realize now that such a trade would be dumb.

So for that, I apologize.

I'm sorry Antrel, I mistook your competitive nature for being a cancer, but it turns out that like Strahan many years ago; you merely had to buy into Coughlin's philosophy.

When buy in morphs into ALL IN, it's hard to stop the momentum,

Sorry Giants Front Office, but I still think you need to draft a Linebacker in the first round.

I am sorry for thinking these guys on this team were bums. It looked really bleak there once we lost to Wash. Also I am sorry if I ever offend people on these boards.

...Wait how far are we going with apologies?

Anyway, its a beautiful day! Go Giants!

Sorry gilbride. I still hate you, and your playcalls are extremelly questionable at times, but you always lead us to putting points on the board and winning games.

See I knew it. Some people just hate him to hate him LOL.

Sorry TC and players for I was never critical of Reese or KG. Sorry because at times this season you looked like total garbage only to reverse this example to look so good. I choose to dwell on the latter. If we only had a crystal ball we would not have gotten so down but after all we are just passionate fans who want you to do so well and we are very poor at accepting below average play.

My Bad Perry Fewell for calling you an idiot. I cursed you for rushing 3 on third and long when you knew damn right it wouldn't work.

But now you don't rush three and sometimes (Gasp) You even rush 5!

Maybe you were tricking everyone into thinking you were a dullard so you could unleash in the playoffs.

Yes you are to defensive coordinating what Columbo is to detective work.
