The only certainty about the weather is that the weathermen have no idea what's gonna happen.......not holding my breath on any forecasts.....I'll call my friend in San Fran the morning of and tell him to look out his window.

If you haven't noticed based off some of the threads..yes we are. Also, the 49ers play in Alaskin Blizzards, Puerto Rican Hurricanes, and (fill in area with a lot of wind) so this weather will only benefit them.

Don't be afraid of rain for the Giants passing game. Be afraid of the excessive winds. There is a misconception about rain effecting the passing offense. Lot of teams passing game play great in the rain like the Patriots. Why?

1. Rain and soggy infield make it more difficult for corners to cut and cover receivers. The WR knows where he is going and the corner is following him so it would make it more difficult for him to follow. Lot of short dink passes can be broken for long plays.... "The Patriots way". Receivers could also have trouble with wet football but I would think 49ers receivers would have more trouble than the Giants receivers.

2. Receivers should be wet and slippery. It is already hard enough to tackle and take down Nicks and if he is slippery, he would be that more difficult.

*If the wind is topping like 25mph like someone posted here, it would effect both QBs. Even though Eli can play in any conditions even in the wind tunnel stadium, 25mph winds is 25mph winds. Giants would have to rely more on their running game vs the best rushing defense. We also have Tynes in a windy condition rather than Akers who has a booming leg and is clutch.

Nobody has been talking about the weather at game time. The problem is all of the rain leading up to the game and the field being at sea level. It will most likely be a muddy mess regardless of whether it rains during the game or not.

I'm in the minority, but I think the wet field favors the giants. It will slow down the pass rush on both sides. Give Eli time, and he'll put up 300yds and 2+ td's.. Give Smith time, and he's at 200 and 1 td. It also slows down the running game, where they are better, and equalized the special teams, where they have an advantage (much less likely to go for a 50yder with sloppy footing). Our receivers are excellent route runners, which will pressure their d-backs.

You are correct, it's not as much gametime conditions as it is rain in these preceding days. Sporadic rain combined with periods of sun/wind and it won't be that bad. But a steady rain or even drizzle where the field doesn't have a chance to drain/dry a bit? Then it will be sloppy.

But this field sits under sea level anyway, so even last week against the Saints the field was damp even though we haven't had a lick of rain in weeks. High tide on Sunday will be around 10:30am, low tide 4:45pm, so the 3:30pm start should help since tide will be receding.

Bottom line..."best case" it will be a little slick, probably a couple slips when someone tries to cut...."worst case", it will be a swamp. Either way, don't think it favors/hinders either team more than the other, they both have to play in it.
