View Full Version : Can't have Manningham & Nicks as your two starting WR's

I said it at the beginning of the year and I still believe it is the case. Both are very talented but injury prone. You can't rely on them to suit up and be in the field. At least one has to go. Hopefully repleaced by a durable, reliable player.

Agreed.

can we add that we need someone who catches the ball better than these guys too?

i don't mind having some guy who drops the ball occasionally but has the speed and ability to tear up an offense.

but who's the guy on this offense that we throw to when we ABSOLUTELY have to have a caught ball?

used to be Toomer, then Smith, now no one.

Hard for me to argue with a guy who quotes from The Outlaw Josey Wales!! One of my alltime favorites.

Very true.... And I for one dont think that Mario is that talented. (may get a lot of crap for that statement but could care less)

There are a lot of Mario Manninghams in the NFL IMO... LOTS.

Manningham is a shifty receiver. Very quick. Decent hands. Average route runner. A little above average straight away speed. Poor strenth. Little ability to break a tackle. Not great size. Average/below average awareness and football smarts.

when you sum it up he is very average IMO.

Maybe a top 40 or so in the league type and very injury prone....

I agree...he seems to drop the ball at the worst possible times, especially in the end-zone or when wide open down the field, and his football smarts are not good

He's fragile and with Rosenhaus as his agent i don't see us resigning him causse we have limited cap as it is and we should use that money on the o-line or lbs...let someone else overpay for him

I feel that next year we'll have Nicks and Barden on the outside with Cruz in the slot and Jernigan as our 4th

Barden is iffy as well cause he hasn't seen much of the field, but with Mario out for possibly a week or two, maybe Barden can step up and produce for the remainder of the season and be a factor for us next year

You don't think Cruz is or can be that receiver? Yes, he drops some balls, but he gets separation, runs good routes, is improving his pre-snap reads and has Eli's confidence, He does make some amazing catches.

Agreed.

can we add that we need someone who catches the ball better than these guys too?

i don't mind having some guy who drops the ball occasionally but has the speed and ability to tear up an offense.

but who's the guy on this offense that we throw to when we ABSOLUTELY have to have a caught ball?

used to be Toomer, then Smith, now no one.

Don't know the answer to that question about who can be the go to guy but going in another direction I would like to have a real threat at the TE position. Next years draft crop at TE is not good at all and I would love if the Giants can snag away Jermichael Finley from the Packers. This guy can be that go to guy in the middle of the field, a nightmare mismatch for any D, he can line up anywhere making life easier for the WRs in every team.
The sad part ???? Salary cap and more glearing needs in other positions . I don't see the Giants going after a FA TE next year. Can't remember if the Giants have signed an impact TE FA ever , no difference next year.

Totally agree, one has to go and obviously it's Manningham. I think they both are part of the lacking in between the ears department of this team of the past 3 years. We need to get Eli a porcshe like the Falcons gave Ryan and the Bengals gave Dalton. A great young wideout with Cruz and when Nicks is healthy he can do his thing but he's to injury prone and drops the easy balls to often for year 3 to count on him to be a great number 1

I said it at the beginning of the year and I still believe it is the case. Both are very talented but injury prone. You can't rely on them to suit up and be in the field. At least one has to go. Hopefully repleaced by a durable, reliable player.

Dont worry Mario will be gone next year...believe that

Very true.... And I for one dont think that Mario is that talented. (may get a lot of crap for that statement but could care less) There are a lot of Mario Manninghams in the NFL IMO...

Top 40 in the league...theres 32 teams and he's our 3rd most productive WR on the team. Think about that for a second. That's pretty good if you ask me.

As for injury prone, he was the only WR we had suited up for all 16 games last year.

Well nice knowing ya' Manningham. No way in hell is Nicks going anywhere.

You mean like either one or the other? It doesn't really matter which?

Not sure if serious. Nicks is the best WR to ever wear a Giants uniform. And Cruz is already better than Manningham.

They all stay.

Cruz also has better numbers than Nicks. Nicks is not that durable. But Mario will be gone.

IF If the kid could everunderstand route running and audibles. He may be on to something. He can break a good a catch after when he finally gets position.

Cruz has really stepped it up this year, he is our #2 with Nicks obviously as our #1. If we can keep Mario next year for not to much money he would be a great #3 receiver for us. That right there is a great receiving corp.

They are both injury prone. My point is perhaps you can get away with one of your top WR's being injury prone but not both.I would let Manninghm walk.

Yeah, don't forget that. I think people are a little too hard on MM and to be honest, I don't want any of our receivers going any where. This may turn out to be Eli Manning's best year statistically and it's because he has 3 very good WR's.

He drops no more balls than any other receiver on the roster. Marios iggest flaw is his intelligence.

Manningham is a goner at the end of this year. Earl Bennet got 4 years 18 million with 9 guaranteed and he has nowhere near as good as Mario

I said it at the beginning of the year and I still believe it is the case. Both are very talented but injury prone. You can't rely on them to suit up and be in the field. At least one has to go. Hopefully repleaced by a durable, reliable player.

Dont worry Mario will be gone next year...believe that

Top 40 in the league...theres 32 teams and he's our 3rd most productive WR on the team. Think about that for a second. That's pretty good if you ask me.

As for injury prone, he was the only WR we had suited up for all 16 games last year.
Ya missed by one he was 41. And thats alot like being dressed for every prom. IF If the kid could everunderstand route running and audibles. He may be on to something. He can break a good a catch after when he finally gets position.

+1. Everyone is always ready to criticize manningham with fake facts. He misses games, he drops balls, yet nicks has missed more games and dropped more balls.

I wonder if Bradshaw is still a bad blocker. Eli throws many ints.

Check your facts people. Its cool to have an opinion, but don't misrepresent facts.

Are you joking, Bradshaw missed like 5000 blocks so far this season and he missed games, and don't get me started on Eli 25 ints so far :(

Agreed.

can we add that we need someone who catches the ball better than these guys too?

i don't mind having some guy who drops the ball occasionally but has the speed and ability to tear up an offense.

but who's the guy on this offense that we throw to when we ABSOLUTELY have to have a caught ball?

used to be Toomer, then Smith, now no one.

Wrong.... Toomer then Smith, now Cruz... yes, he's dropped a few, but lets remember, he's an UDFA and a rookie (last year didn't count)... Cruz is big time, he might not know it yet, the FO may not know it yet, but Eli knows. I hate how he does the Salsa in the endzone, but I look forward to seeing it for years to come. Come on now, hometown boy makes the big time? Gotta love it. Born in Paterson, raised throughout N Jersey, now living the good life in sunny SWFL- still love to see one of my own tearing it up. Dolphins and Bucs fans hate me at the local bars-F*** 'em. They know my name, they know my team.

I still agree with the original post. Thank God Vic Cruz emerged......... If Victor Cruz didnt turn out to be as a lot of us hoped, this post would have definitely had merit.

We would not have made the playoffs with just Nicks and Manningham. AND it was nearly impossible to say for sure that Cruz would be able to do everything he has done.

You must not be a Giant fan because those thought wouldn't even be a concern a week before the Superbowl. We cant say that Ramses Barden woudn't have stepped up or if they might have ran a to TE set with Ballard and Beckham and had success.

Because Barden has done a lot in previous years. Same with beckum. And ballard has taken steps backwards with all the drops he's been having since midway into the season. Don't come on these boards 2 weeks before the superbowl and start questioning another posters dedication to this team.

a lot of big time WRs got injured this year ... should Houston get rid of Johnson, should NE get rid of their TE Gronk?

while you always have to consider a players injuries when making personnel decisions (i.e. Steve Smith) ... if you are really, seriously thinking of getting rid of Nicks, you're insane ... he's the most talented WR the Giants have ever had
