Kenny Phillips is nowhere near the caliber he use to be. His contract is up soon. What do you think about going after safety early in the draft next year? Are you ok with Sash coming in and getting some reps? Do you think KP is playing good ball....what are some safeties coming out this year's draft that are top 5 in college?

KP is average...nothing more. I honestly don't even know if it's the players or the scheme, but Rolle used to be a much better safety in Ari it seems

This is the kind of thread that should pop up after the season is over. I can't even being to evaluate us just now, can't stop thinking about GB tomorrow.

Sorry I had to bring it up now, theres enough threads about GB. and about fewell, gilbride, fire coughlin...etc, etc, etc.....I am evaluating NOW bc he is average. and that average play will most likely show tomorrow. didnt know I had to only post about gb.

Sorry if I sounded condescending there buddy, I meant no harm. I just meant that "I" personally can't evaluate just yet. I'm sure many others can.

I'm just so friggin nervous and anxious about this upcoming game. I need Philips to play like Ed Reed tomorrow

I keep saying that KP was not the impact safety that I was hearing all over these boards. No player that cannot start over James Butler should ever be mentioned as an impact player..The only think KP does well is give us 15 yard helmet to helmet penalties.

Then Reese topped it off with the most outrageous contract to another CC Brown in disguise, Antrel Rolle. This guy cant cover anything....why is he still a nickel corner...He could not cover while he was in Arizona and this is why he was moved to safety. You would think we would be able to cover somebody since he was a DB earlier in his career, but nope. Im ready to show Reese the door, and beg for Ernie Acorsi to come back...Ernie Acorsi brought in hard nosed physical players and if they slacked off he got rid of them. He didnt make false promises to players in the offseason. Acorsi all took risks in getting a player that we needed for a certain possible...we was scared of trading up or down. Reese sits at the same spot in draft day with no intentions in trading up to get a player we need! So what happens now, is that we sit at the same spot and dont grab our guy, so then we gotta draft best available. Good Job Reese. This stragety sucks especially when ur drafting from #15...I can understand with the Top 7 picks.

The Giants have drafted fine under Reese the FA signings on the other hand have over paid player after over paid player.

Keep in mind injuries have forced Rolle to play out of position pretty much the entire time he's been here.

I agree thatt its difficult to evaluate anyone on this team now. But KP has never showed what he looked like in Miami. Be it the injury , the scheme, the calls or maybe just him; he's been reminding me of CC Brown and thats bad!

Think about our secondary 3 first rounders and a second rounder and this is what we come up with..... Bubba that sure ain't all execution!

It's Scheme. The scheme Fewell runs is weak on safties. KP is a good free roaming safety which he has not been allowed to do since Spags was here. That being said, KP has been pretty good this season so I dunno what all the hate is about. Safety is the least of our worries. It's DT and LB that has burned us on defense. DT because other than Linval we have no push up the middle and LB is self explanatory.

And Canty is a big DE, not a DT. Did he even play DT with Dallas?

Rolle and Phillips would be one of the best safety tandems in the league if we didn't have so many holes for them to try and compensate for.

Phillips has balled it this year. He is making great hits, has had several pass defenses, some ints, and overall has limited the deep pass to his coverage when healthy.

Rolle is again, trying to compensate for holes we have on our defense. We haven't even been able to utilize these two safeties because of issues on our D; like stopping the run and making up for poor lb play.

And they STILL are playing at a high level.

Ed Reed and Troy P. are the exceptions, not the norms. Name me 5 safeties right now without looking it up you'd rather have over Phillips and Rolle...

When this defense is healthy, and sound throughout, and our weakest link isn't 6th round or undrafted LB's, you'll see both shine even more.

Rolle and Phillips are excellent tacklers in run support, they both make plays (not as often as we'd like but again, they're being asked to do so much to negate and cover some flaws on our defense) and I personally am fine with these two at safety.

We just need the personnel around them that allows them to play safety and ball hawk and do all the things they should be doing but can't because of the situations we have been in.

You really compared Rolle to C.C. Brown...are you ****ing insane?

The Giants have drafted fine under Reese the FA signings on the other hand have over paid player after over paid player.

I don't think anyone disagrees Reese 1st round drafting has been great......care to discuss his FA/ mid 2 late round drafting? Pretty bad...u guys act like every team hits on all there picks and thats simply not the case. Look at how many games these draft picks have missed to injury. There isnt a team in the NFL that has had drafthighpicks miss games like this

I don't like for us to have to keep fixing a position we thought we already fixed by adding Phillips and Rolle but it looks to me that we need more talent again at the safety position...

Pardon my naivety (Haven't seen a Giants game all year because I just got back from Marine corps boot camp), but statistically Kenny Phillips is having a career year. Has KP really improved this season, or is is still the same old same old with him (Step late in coverage all the time) ?

Kenny has played great all season bro.

I really don't see where this thread holds any credibility at all. If you want to talk about Tuck sucking it up that's cool because it is completely evident.

Someone posted a stat last week that showed QB's had a horrible rating when throwing to an area whee Kenny Phillips was at. I forget the exact stat but it showed how good he has been playing.

The one comment on here that says "all KP is good for is 15 yard penalties" just shows the ignorance towards his play.

We are 25th in pass defense. In your opinion whose most to blame for that?
Infact, if you could. Rank KP, Rolle, Webster, Ross, Grant in order of playing level this season. (1 being the best, 5 being the worst)

So with this startegy we would of traded up and drafted Rolando Mcclain who got arrested for discharging a firearm next a guys head this week instead of JPP who is the best player in that draft not named Suh. Grant is the worst, Ross, Rolle, KP, and then CWeb is the best...what does this prove?

How many passes have gone over our safeties heads?

Well with KP tweaking his knee, its pretty evident we gotta look at another safety this upcoming draft. KP's knees are WAAAAY too weak to be dependent upon

speaking of safeties whatever became of Tyler Sash, he was supposed to be a decent safety when we drafted him and yet we never see him in a game.

It's hard to justify investing yet another valuable asset into the safety position. The Rolle/KP tandem is good enough and better than what most teams have.

Well according to Advanced NFL Stats, KP is the 52nd ranked safety in the league, with Rolle being ranked 13th and Grant 32nd

I like Sash and KP as our safeties. Then trade or release Rolle.
Hire a veteran next year to split time with sash.

speaking of safeties whatever became of Tyler Sash, he was supposed to be a decent safety when we drafted him and yet we never see him in a game.
good special teams guy.
Needs time to adjust. I bet next year he will be better.

You have to remember rolle has been playing out of position for most of the year due to the injuries at cb...he's done a pretty good job imo

Well according to Advanced NFL Stats, KP is the 52nd ranked safety in the league, with Rolle being ranked 13th and Grant 32nd

Don't know what those stats mean...Ed Reed is ranked 43rd.

KP is not the the superstar player we thought he was but he's fine. He's a legit starter.

We have bigger problems than safety. We need linebackers. Impact linebackers.

We need an impact DT

We need a homerun threat out of the backfield

and we need we need new Guards and Tackles on the offensive line
