Steelers are in the 6 club :P.

I believe only Dallas and 49's have just 5.

I think Green bay is the only one with just 4 rings now, though i'm not completely sure :S.

Yep, 4 is ELIte company. Would seperate us from the 'skins and Raiders who haven't won a SB in decades.

Wow only 18 teams have won a superbowl...pretty crazy.

It's something that has been eating me since the Cowboys got their fourth, I'll admit that. Now the Giants must enter that club. I was devastated in 2000 when we went for our third and missed. It seemed like 4 would take forever after that. Now the Giants stand on the precipice of finaly attaining it. It is a big deal since the Giants organization practically created the game of football, fro giving us the 4-3 defense and Landry and Lombardi. Getting in that at least 4 club is mandatory.

I know I know Steelers fans, you are in the 5 club.

I was trying to point out in another Thread that this win is important in the sense that we get to 4-1 and drop the Pats to 3-4. it would tarnish the legacy of Tom and Bill with 2of losses being to us. if they win its 4-3 to 3-2 and we would have to continue to listen to all the ****y Pats fans. with a win we shut them up once and for all. Also like you said we come into Elite Company with that 4th Title.

Heres a link to my Thread if you want to see it:

Based off that Chart it looks like all the SBs have been won by about 18 of the 32 Teams. A little over half. The rest have either not been there or been there and lost. 10 teams have had a chance and not won. with 6 just 0-1, 2 at 0-2 (Eagles, LOL)and the Bills and Vikes at 0-4.

I guess that leaves only 4 Teams that have never been to a SB. Only 1 of the 16 teams in the NFC has never got there. The Detriot Lions.

The AFC has 3 teams that never made it. Cleveland Browns, Jax Jags and Texans..

Combined NFL championship game appearances, us by far. We lost a lot. 21 total including 2 weeks from now and we've won 6 (the 7th was won in 1927 by standing before there were playoffs). From 56-63 we went 6 of 8 years and lost all but 1. Been in the playoffs an NFL record 31 times.

Here are all the championship games we've played in (bolded ones are wins:
1933 1934 1935 1938 1939
1941 1943 1944 1946
1950 1956 1958 1959
1961 1962 1963
1986
1990
2000 2007
2011

SBs only -- Steelers and Cowboys have appeared 8 times. This will be the Patriots' 7th.

Total combined championships? Packers 13, Bears 9, Giants 7.

So on the NFL Championship record i was close. I said 3-11 earlier in thread in a guess. We are actually 3-13, not counting the one in 27 w/o playoffs. However it is still looked at like a championship by the standards in those days so someone else said 4-14 so he was close to.

WE NEED THAT 4th SB TROPHY BEFORE THE PATS> PERIOD

That ties us with GB

miked1958
01-25-2012, 12:47 PM
So a win seperates us from NE in the sense we would have the 4th before them against only 1 loss and they would be just 3-4... SO we would have them in any conversation expect the fact that brady would still have one more the Eli.

We would tie GB at 4..... WOW

We would pull within 1 of Dallas and the Niners.

miked1958
01-25-2012, 12:52 PM
Then if we could get to and win our 5th... We would end all comparision questions that come up when talking to Dallas fans. We would be 5-1 to their 5-3.

We would then be just 1 game behind niners....who are 5-0

IF we can get to that 6th one we could tie Pitt and if they dont get anymore between now and then we would tech be ahead on the least as they have 2losses.

Would it be great if this is all done in say next 5-8 years while Eli is still with us and there he is with 4 rings and we go up against the Steelers for the first to get to #7 in Eli's last game before he retires...

What a story that would be.

NOW i will put down the Crack Pipe and step away

Amazing to think that in two weeks wecan possibly start talking about gearing up for a 5th SB title. And with Eli as our QB for the next 5 years at least, and JR and TC on board for the long haul, it'll be a realistic goal.

I began watching football in the 70s and early 80s when it seemed like either the Steelers, Cowboys or Niners were always winning championships. Just to now be included in the all time Superbowl stats is great for someone who spent his childhood being mocked for rooting for such a lousy team. For those of us who remember the days of Craig Morton, Ray Perkins, and the original Miracle in the Meadowlands, this IS the golden era or NY Giants football! I still can't believe we're headed to our 5th Superbowl in two weeks.

This team has a chance at glory everlasting. And its a great chance at that. No turnovers, no bad special teams plays, i cant see the patriots matching the giants scoring with the same number of possessions. With tha stakes at hand, however, defeat would be devastating.

Although Viking fans are the most tormented fans on the planet. Theyve had so many good teams that all fell flat on their faces

Since 1986, we've been to 5 SBs, with a CURRENT 3 - 1 record (and of course, 1 to be decided). I believe that only the Broncos have been in as many (2-3) during that time. The Broncos haven't done anything since the '90s, however. The Pats and Giants have been consistent -- Giants: 1 in the '80s; 1 in the '90s; 2 in the '00s; and 1 in the '10s. Pats: 1 in the 90s; 4 in the '00s; and 1 in the '10s.

Since 1986, we've been to 5 SBs, with a CURRENT 3 - 1 record (and of course, 1 to be decided). I believe that only the Broncos have been in as many (2-3) during that time. Only thePats have been inmore at 6 SBs with acurrent 3 - 2 record (with 1TBD) during that time. I think the Steelers have been to 4 (2 - 2) and the Bills were in 4 (0-4).

Except for the Pats, we've been the most consistent NFL franchise over the past 25 years in terms of making the SB. And the Pats have only done it with 2 HCs and 2 QBs, while we've done it with 3 HCs and 3 QBs.

Actually, we've done it with 4 QBs - Simms, Hoss, Collins, Eli
actually we dont get there that year without both Simms and Hoss

Oh yeah, I'm well aware that we were what 11-1 before Simms got hurt? But Hoss still had to play those playoff games and having watched those games on tape, he played pretty well.

god how great will it be to get one step closer to Cowboy fans. They will officially have NOTHING to ever talk **** about ever lol.....

good times

They love to talk about going to 8 Super Bowls. Well we've now played in the same number of title games since they came into the league in 1960 -- 8.

And which Cowboy fan has 5>3 in his sig, is it CFFA? 5>4 (hopefully) doesn't look so bad.

Amazing to think that in two weeks wecan possibly start talking about gearing up for a 5th SB title. And with Eli as our QB for the next 5 years at least, and JR and TC on board for the long haul, it'll be a realistic goal.

Eli's definitely got some years left in his prime, no doubt.

And I really want to wait with this for the offseason, but we could be looking at drastic changes. Not only player-wise (Osi, Jacobs, Manningham) but coaching too. We are already getting raided and Gilbride and Fewell are getting job offers. Will Tom Coughlin start over again with new coordinators or will he go out on top as a champion having equaled Bill Parcells and retire? At very least we're looking at big roster changes and new coordinators, and we might be looking at an entirely new coaching staff at worst.

But let's worry about this in 2 weeks.

Amazing, this really put's into perspective on how spoiled we've been as Giants fans. We've been in a championship game in 8 of the past 9 decades. If we win this one, that gives us a SB win in each of the last 4 decades.

Having dynasties is great, but this shows sustained excellence.

Yup, agreed. The legacy of this club is amazing!

Yup.

All those losing title games suck, but to realize this team has competed for a championship in every single decade but one is a tribute to the organization's sustained excellence.

We're the only team to win Super Bowls in 3 consecutive decades. A win in 2 weeks makes us the only team to do it in 4 consecutive decades. Amazing!

Seems like the giants just keep adding to their Legacy

You guys hopefully will soon join the No 4 club. That is a great place to be. It would be sweet to see just the Packers and Giants there.

That play out in the elements where football is supposed to be played.
