For those of you guys who watch the game closely what is the Giants D doing differently? Is it just a matter of key guys getting healthy? Did Fewell change a few things?

Last week against the 49ners our pass rush was held in check for most of the game. I would even say their D-line outplayed ours yet out side of those two big plays to VD we dominated. Is the secondary playing that much better?

They simplified the defense which has all but eliminate the plays where players were out of position... which lead to big plays against them. I am no expert but from what I am seeing they are doing a much better job of keeping the plays in front of them rather that trailing the receivers. Of course, getting healthy has helped a lot, and the interior D-Line has been much better over the past few weeks, especially at stopping the run.

I really dont know..
Secondary i think got a lil better...

But i think it was just that we were always this good of a Defense but we had to come together.
I knew they had it in them, it was a matter of time.
And they got hot at the right time!

When they want to, our g-men could easily be the best defensive team in the league.

communication on the back end. guys are simply on the same page in the secondary now, whether its from simplified schemes, repetition, or more focus at practice, with the exception of the vd td in the nfc title game. instead of thinking and trying to guess at times, it seems those guys are just playing an reacting, more loosely so to speak. up front its health. the rotation is brutal, allowing guys to stay fresher longer. great job of shooting gaps and filling lanes by the front 7 also.

The secondary is much improved:
1. They meet three nights a week to go over film together.
2. They are communicating better.
3. They simplified the defense to help avoid mistakes.
4. Prince is starting to come on.

Opposing teams are trying to slow down our pass rush:
1. using extra QB protection leaves less men running routes, ( also making it easier for our secondary.)
2. making quick throws, throwing screens.

The return of key players:
1. Tuck is playing more like his old self.
2. Osi is back from his ankle injury.
3. Chase Blackburn is playing like never before. (Thank you, Chase.) His intelligence is putting him in the right places at the right time.
4. Other players have missed games this season too, but they are all back. (KP, MB)

Scheme:
1. Fewell is using less 3 man rush, which was always getting abused.
2. Fewell does have good game plans, and he took a lot of abuse earlier in the year when defense was not getting it done. However, that was not because the scheme was not good.
3. Fewell is listening to his players, and allowing them to play to their strengths. (Already said above that he simplified things.)

Talent:
1. Our drafts have been used more heavily on defense in the past several years.
2. We have a secondary full of 1st round picks.
3. We have a great defensive line, perhaps the best in the NFL.
4. Even the LB crew is more talented than most give them credit for.

Offense:
1. They are having a great year. They're success on the field give the defense a rest, and time to adjust, if needed.
2. They are not turning the ball over as much, again giving the defense time to rest and adjust.

Motivation:
1. Each game has been an elimination contest since week 16.
2. They are hungry for another superbowl.
3. They are battle tested. They've faced the toughest schedule and survived.
4, They are true team, and they trust each other.

I don't know why people are saying they simplified the defense. Boley even said they didn't simply it, but the players are starting to understand it better and the communication has been fixed.

It's because we brought Chase back in and Boley being healthy, imo. The backend is also communicating a lot better, but Chase is constantly moving the d-line around to get them matched up where they need to be.

Not a whole lot to add to this.

I see the 4-man rush, which we rely so heavily upon, producing bigger results due to health and what not. This, in turn, allows us to change up man/zone looks on the back end and keep QBs guessing, even if only for an extra half second.
