INDIANAPOLIS -- Plaxico Burress (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/2139/plaxico-burress)
is coming to Super Bowl XLVI to visit his old team -- the team he never
wanted to leave, according to former teammate and close friend Brandon Jacobs (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/8524/brandon-jacobs).

Jacobs, speaking Tuesday at media day, said Burress wanted to sign with the New York Giants (http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/_/name/nyg/new-york-giants) -- not the New York Jets (http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/_/name/nyj/new-york-jets) -- when he became a free agent last summer. Jacobs also raised the possibility of a Burress reunion with 2012.

Asked if Burress had his heart set on returning to the Giants, Jacobs
said, "Oh, no question, I know he did. I know he wanted to come to the
Giants. We just didn't think it was going to be able to be done
financially. But he may be (back) next year, who knows?"</p>

Burress
signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Jets, who guaranteed
the entire deal -- the best offer he received. The Giants, whom he
visited before signing with the Jets, proposed an incentive-laden
contract with only $1 million guaranteed.</p>

</P>old story? or are they really asking the current players, whom are in the SB, about old players?

I think it was after the Jet game Tuck basically said without saying that Burress's first choice was the Eagles. I think Jacobs is a better friend to Burress, so maybe he knows better. My .02, Burress saw the shi.t show in the Jets locker room, and is watching us go back to another SB. Maybe NOW he wishes he signed here, but I doubt he wanted to at the time.

If they could get him cheap, I'd be interested. We will need a 3rd WR most likely with MM being a FA. I'd only go 1 yr though.

We don't need a guy coming off a stretch with us where he couldn't control his impulses or simply show up to meetings on time and coming off an incident where he shot himself while out on a week night away from his wife and child, and coming off a visit to jail and coming off a marginal season with the Jets and coming back to us yet another year older. How could that possibly be a good thing?

How do you figure? He's not the same receiver he was in 2007. Manningham will be a casualty of the CAP and Nicks/Cruz. But he's a upgrade over Burress

He was still calling pretty tight coverage on the Jets as they have nothing. He had a few good games. Burress will be wide open a ton with Cruz and Nicks playing with him. I'll take that. If he acts up, cut his *** back to the street.

i dunno. i could see it, along with resigning smith. MM will be gone. Plex has always provided nightmares for opposing defenses and still would. plex may have had a great season if sanchez was a good qb. with eli, he could become a factor. We could develop packages for him. And he also offers some of the thingd MM did, those vertical routes. Also, Vick struggled his first year back. Second year he actually did a lot better.
Plex also practiced with the Jets if Im not mistaken. The giants also wanted him as evident by them offering him a contract.

Plex best success came with Eli, and I think he could become a viable weapon for Eli. Could happen, prob won't. but i at least expect the giants to be interested. He should still know our system, and we could even line him up in the slot which would be nightmares for opposing defenses.

I actually expect since we'll prob release Barden as well, we offer Plex a contract. Don't be shocked if we do, he still has great redzone ability, can beat press coverage which Philly runs. It makes sense to some degree. Id rather it be smith we look at, but dont be surprised if Plex gets an offer. I bet he wishes he took the Giants offer. And the contract offer from the giants was incorrect. we offered him a two year deal that could have paid more than the jets, it just was guaranteed money,

interesting.

and also, dont forget eli to plex had the most td of any qb to wr for like 3 year span. with our schedule going to be hell next season, we will need game changes. plex could very well still be that for us. hes healthyas he's ever been. makes sense imo. either smith or plex, i expect oneof those two to come back to the giants. MM may be out of our price range. WHo knows, but I'm intrigued and interested if that means anything

Pretty much the exact numbers from holmes. Those stats dont do justice. That passing attack was non existant.

Plax had almost the exact same numbers...He had a good season considering the circumstances.

If the situation is right..I'd rather take him over S.Smith. at least plax has healthy knees.

If you ever read "The Gm" it gives a nice little insight on how serious Plax takes the sport and how looks can be deceiving.

"Plax is smarter than what you think, or what he shows you,"

"But one time -this will sound bad- my playbook. So I grabbed Plax's book off the stool in front of his locker to look up a formation or something. And when I opened it, I couldn't believe my eyes. He had written all of these notes...It shouldn't have shocked me. If no one else knew Plaxico was in tune with the offense I did. I knew how hard he worked. But I guess I didn't realize how committed he was o understanding exactly what he has to do on every play. Almost like he doesn't want anybody to know he knows, but he does".- Eli Manning

Bonus fact: Plaxico used the number 17 and continued after leaving the Giants because it was the day he got signed by us.

Plax is still solid in the redzone, other than that..meh.

Didn't get much separation, got called for quite a few offensive PIs.

3 of the TDs he got came in the same game

INDIANAPOLIS -- Plaxico Burress (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/2139/plaxico-burress) is coming to Super Bowl XLVI to visit his old team -- the team he never wanted to leave, according to former teammate and close friend Brandon Jacobs (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/8524/brandon-jacobs).

Asked if Burress had his heart set on returning to the Giants, Jacobs said, "Oh, no question, I know he did. I know he wanted to come to the Giants. We just didn't think it was going to be able to be done financially. But he may be (back) next year, who knows?"</p>

Burress signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Jets, who guaranteed the entire deal -- the best offer he received. The Giants, whom he visited before signing with the Jets, proposed an incentive-laden contract with only $1 million guaranteed.</p>

</p>

</p> Given that Burress didn't exactly light up the field, I think it's not very likely he'll be sought after by the Giants.
How could that possibly be a good thing?

and those are just the reasons we know about. No thanks, not even as a backup.

I am a fan and will always be a fan of Plaxico Burress. I know he made a big mistake when he shot himself accidentally but lets not forget he caught the super bowl game winning TD and had an epic game vs the Packers. I hope he is successful after his giants career. I never considered him a clubhouse cancer.

I don't want him back though because he is 35 years old now and lost too much speed.

Moss over Plax??? Really? Really? Ok, If we lose MM I would be more than willing to give Plax not Plex lol, another shot as long as he realizes that Nicks and Cruz are 1&amp;2. I would offer him a one year deal for 1.6mil. As for SS, well i do believe his knee is a MAJOR liability and Reese made a good call, I love SS for everything he did but i believe that injury was a career ender as far as the reciever he was and now can be after it. Of course I was thinking of just production as I clearly stated I'd rather spend money elsewhere and wouldn't rely on him as a starter.

On the other end, you're completely ignoring it. You're essentially saying Barden/Moss rotting on the bench with their mouth closed is better than Plax. Not even close. I never said anything about 07 Plax, but a 2011 Plax/Sanchez combo was still greater than a healthy Ramses. So who's logic is even more flawed?

If Reese made him an offer that means he didn't find Plax to be a "cancer". That's good enough for me.
And if he really wanted him, he'd have have priced the offer at more that 1/3 of what the Jets offered.

That is completely against everything Reese said this off season. When discussing Smith, Boss, and Plax he said all along, he determined a monteary value for the player, if it wasn't acceptable for them, they could pass it up. By that logic he also didn't want Smith or Boss back. Of course he did, he wanted them back, at the right price.
That is because Reese is a classy GM. He's not going to pull a Westhoff (Jets) move and trash Plax after he's gone like Westy's criticism of Weatherford this year. Reese is all about business and if he thinks Plax, not Plex, can help us next year he will sign him. Don't count on that.

Are you proposing Reese made him an offer even though he didn't want him? How in the world would that make sense?

Reese wanted him, at the right price. Pretty simple.
A one year, non guaranteed contract for $1M to a wide receiver in the NFL is not a ringingendorsement by any means oraffirmationthat he wouldn't be a problem for the coaching staff. At $1M, it is a throwaway offer which wouldn't impact the cap and would allow all options (out right release etc) if Plax wigged out again. I would characterize his offer as "casual" "I could take him or leave him" but not serious. The proof is in the pudding. The Jets offered $3M and got him. We dipped our toe in the water and got steam rolled.I do agree that Reese offered him what he thought Plax was worth which was.........not much. Next year, with another year on those bones, he'll be worth less to us.

It was one million guaranteed with additional incentives that could very well have made it to $4mil. Even without performative goals being met, just playing a certain amount of snaps would have gotten him 1.5million, almost twice as much as the veteran minimum .

It was an adequate salary for a man two years removed from playing professional football.

agreed, 100%. If you look at some of the guys he would have been making more than it was a very generous offer with all things considered. Just because the Jets made a foolish offer doesn't lessen the Giants offer. Stallworth was playing under a $800K contract. The Jets didn't do anything right this offseason their offer to Plax is no different.
