View Full Version : Coby Fleener at #32

With Ballard and Beckum having ACL injuries and a weak free agent tight end class, TE had become more of a glaring need

He run good routes, has solid hands and is a technically sound blocker

What you guys think about picking him at 32?

Eh, uninspiring. Guy's got a bad hair do, anyway. He's rockin' the Bieber 'do.

If Dwayne Allen is available, he's probably the only TE that I'd take in the 1st.

But I'd rather go with Pascoe at TE and draft another TE in the later rounds or maybe a veteran via FA like Vishanti Shancoe.

If the TE is really the best player available at our 1st pick, then fine, but I'm really hoping to bring in a stud on the o-line.

This kid is nasty . Have u seen his 1 handed snag in the endzone?

yeah he actually is real nasty. he's a perfect fit for this system. he can absolutely level some one blocking and can be used creatively there, he is deceptively fast and very quick, can be a downfield threat as well as short hot route threat, and he's a smart player who i'd expect would be able to make an impact right off the bat.

is that other clemson te a good blocker? thats why fleener makes sense, he can block with intensity and technique.

but i'd still almost rather trade back and get an extra 2nd round pick if we could so we could address more areas of need but still i'd be stoked with fleener guy could be like a gronkowski

Adding a 6'6" TE with the speed to take it to the house would put a huge smile on Eli's face!

I'd have to see a whole mock to see what players remain on the board.

I'd be happy with Dwayne Allen or Coby Fleener honestly.

Allen looks like the more NFL ready tight end and I would say actually the stronger of the two atm.

Fleener is taller but lankier with a 6'6 frame. Of course, he can always add bulk.

Don't be surprised if Indianapolis tries to target Fleener in the 2nd round since he's Andrew Luck's TE at Stanford. If I was Reese, I'd go to the Colts new GM and offer him the chance to trade up and acquire Fleener for the right price.

He's pretty much, well, perfect. Outside of the fact that he could get a little stronger, he is well developed in all facets of the game. And that kind of worries me. Fleener is sort of a finished product as a receiver and doesn't have a whole lot of upside. What you see is what you're going to get -- a polished route runner with soft hands a nice burst out of his breaks. Not dynamic by any means though. Just a very, very solid TE

Fleener would be nice but I'm more interested in us maybe taking Dwayne Allen out of Clemson

I'd be ok with Fleener or Allen at 32, unless a top O-linemen is available at that point.

not saying to depend on him being the next great thing but he has been in the system for a season and he will be in the mix and shouldnt be overlooked.

I like it, big white dude, exactly what we want to see in a tight end.

The more I think about it, Fleener's height and potential to grow into his frame makes him more of a JR "Height/Weight/Speed/Upside" pick.

I'd also take Ladarius Greene later on. He's tall, gives good effort blocking, and runs like a wideout. He seriously needs to add mass, but put him in the weight room with Snee, Anvil, and Austin and that will come.

Hell, I'd take them both.

I was more into Allen at the beginning of the year but the more tape I watch Fleener has really started to grow on me. He is so explosive in the passing game.Giants might need that if they Lose Manningham

I like Green but he is a serious project. He is a guy that has a higher then average probability of getting nothing from. I want to see how he looks at the combine. Its hard to try to project a guy whe u need him to add 20 pounds

It's probably a silly thought but isn't there the possibility that if (and when) the Colts select Luck with the #1 overall pick, they trade back into the last 1st and get his pal Fleener from Stanford as well?

It just seems like with a new coach and GM that the Colts will move on from majority of the veterans and they will try to make Luck as comfortable as possible with a receiver or tight end to go along with their draft.

Yeah I think teams could draft along those lines but the trade doesn't make sense because there's a good chance he's available at 33 anyway.

Agreed on both counts.

Fleener definitely looks more like a Giants TE, but he also doesn't have that "WOW" factor that guys like Graham or Davis have. But, I think with Eli as his QB, Fleener could be a better TE than Davis.

Likewise I wouldn't want to take Green and roll with him as the No. 1 TE. But, I do like the effort I've seen from him and I think he could grow into a dangerous TE.

If the first 4 rounds worked out like this:
1) Fleener (TE, Stanford)
2) Doug Martin (RB, Boise State)
3) Mike Martin (DT, Michigan)
4) Ladarius Green (TE, Louisiana-Lafayette)

I'd be a happy camper. (Bracing for the "ZOMG NO O-LINEZeZ!?!", however, I think there's going to be a 2nd-3rd rounder who will fall to the 5th, and JR will grab him... or a 4th round comp if they get one)

The only other team I could see taking a TE in the 1st is the Denver Broncos.

That would be an awesome draft but I do worry that between now and draft day, Doug Martin and Mike Martin could rise their stock and be out of position for us to get them without trading up to acquire them.

Sadly, that's possible.

I'm hoping that (Doug) Martin doesn't show Ray Rice or MJD's long speed and posts a "slower" 40 time, and GM's get caught up in the perception that (Mike) Martin doesn't have lateral agility and is white.

Doug Martin has quickly become my favorite running back in the draft, and I've loved Mike Martin since last year (I think he's the same type of DT as Suh). I really liked hearing that he has surprisingly long arms. If he puts up the gym numbers that he does with long arms... that is a powerful dude.

Just watched some highlights of this guy, and he'd be a nice addition in the passing game, how the f' was he soooo open on most of those plays!?!?!

He's got some deceptive after the catch speed which would be nice, the only thing is how is his blocking?? I know this new TE the NFL loves barely chip blocks, but how's Fleener in the run game??

I still want an RT or 2ndary help in the 1st, LOL
