a “travesty,” and urged NBA commissioner David Stern to put the deal to
a vote of the league’s 29 owners in an email obtained by Yahoo! Sports.
Gilbert sent the email to Stern, deputy commissioner Adam Silver and a
handful of Gilbert’s ownership peers on Thursday.

Over the next three seasons this
deal would save the Lakers approximately $20 million in salaries and
approximately $21 million in luxury taxes. That $21 million goes to

I cannot remember ever seeing a
trade where a team got by far the best player in the trade and saved
over $40 million in the process. And it doesn’t appear that they would
give up any draft picks, which might allow to later make a trade for Dwight Howard.
(They would also get a large trade exception that would help them
improve their team and/or eventually trade for Howard.) When the Lakers
    got Pau Gasol

    ------------

Not for nothing but the reality of it is that this whole theory is garbage. This guy is still butt hurt over losing Lebron, which is understandable. But the truth is that if he wasn't such a stubborn *** and would of been open to approaching Lebron in an honest way and open to trading him before the deadline in his last season, his tema would of been in a MUCH better position. Go ask the Nuggets.

Lets review the trade: Lakers make a move to dump salary cap - okay. They are getting a guy who has basically said that he WILL NOT resign with the Lakers and is heading to NY next year. Even still, Paul is best player in the deal but I do NOT think that the Lakers get better. Not this year and def not next year. Is it illegal to try and dump big contracts? Its like reverse discrimination.

Hornets should be happy - they are getting some legit role players instead of just taking the hit of losing a superstar, like the Cavs did ironically. Houston just got a superstar at center. Hornets aren't happy about losing CP, but its inevitable.

I went from liking this guys and feeling sorry for him to thinking hes an *******. "Its not fair, their GM is making good moves."
He sounds like me crying about fantasy football. lol And just like me he is wrong. He is bitter about losing Lebron and he is just bitter in general. He is also upset because of the financial savings the Lakers would have and he won't get the revenue sharing from us being over the cap. He sounds like a crybaby *****. **** the Cavs and **** him. Maybe he should have built a better team around Lebron instead of Mo Williams, Varejo, Z and other scrubs.

The NBA backed itself into a corner on this one. Now the Hornets aren't going to be able to trade Paul at all. How can the NBA let him go somewhere else if he can't come to LA. So it would be ok if he got traded to the Blazers. He should not be able to be traded anywhere. Then the Hornets won't get anything for him. This trade was fair for everyone.

David Stern didn't even give the teams involved a chance to increase the offer or tell them what would need to happen to make it go through. He just straight said no. It's so ****ed. Alot of people are saying the Lakers would be worse with this trade.
LMFAO i wasn't going to go there but thats exactly what it reminded me of.

I agree the luxory tax has something to do with it as well. But you cna't have it ALL for you. His misconception is that this move puts the Lakers over the top. I got to be honest Lando - I think this is a bad move for this year. Im sure they'll be able to get a top notch FA over the next few years but it won't be Paul.

He should of tried a move like this.and maybe he wouldn't have the most pitiful team in the NBA. He was king of bad contracts and no foresight. He tried just throwing it all on Lebron and it backfired. Personally I think he needs to sell the teams. Hes on tilt and jaded.

I agree with you Lando, this is horse****. I think this **** backfires and he goes to the Lakers.

I do feel bad for Stern, hes in a lose/lose situation. I think this is the beginning of the end for him
I just figured I would say it before you did. lol

There are not many great FA's coming out any time soon. This was our chance to pounce.

Stern was already on thin ice, this just took it over the top.
im not a fan of stern but there was nothing he could of done here except not let the league control the Hornets

this is so delusional? Lakers would be worse?! are you ****in serious Landon? cmon man...
at minimum, what this does is gives all other teams the chance to make offers. REAL offers. not completely lopsided ones.

EVERYONE knows that the money saved in this deal was just going to be to make a run at Howard and drop Bynum in on the deal. So nobody would need Odom and Pau....it's such a win for Lakers even if they didnt get Howard....
so ****ing what man... what sense does that make.

So if Howard gets traded and extends with the Nets - you'll think this trade should go through? Thats such a jaded and hater way to look at it. JPizz the hater.

You realize Howard is a FREE AGENT next year so if he doesn't extend somewhere HE WILL SIGN WHERE HE WANTS.

Either way this guy is going to go where he wants to go - bottom line. ITs amazing your crying about a GM unloading money. Amazing.
wow talk about putting words in my mouth. thats like 3 in 1 right there. No i dont think it should go through regardless of where Howard ends up. Howard wants to play for NJ, he said that. I dont feel players should be able to dictate where the play on trades, but whatever, besides the point.

THE POINT, is that the Lakers are robbing the league with that trade.i Dont care how good you THINK the other players are. You think rocket fans give a **** about the players tehy get in this deal? **** no.
You can even take the players out of the equation, and realize that the lakers are making $$$ off the deal too.
So basically, they get the best PG in the league, AND save an assload of money in the trade, and give up guys they havent really wanted the past 2 years anyway....
                  I'm not a hater....i'm a realist....and that trade is REAL-ly lopsided.
And I stand by my comment - Lakers get worse this year if they lose Gasol, Odom 4 CP3. They are doing it to switch **** up and open cap for the future. So suggest its a bull**** move because they free up cap money is stupid. Its good GM'ing. This isn't the original Gasol trade
Not a chance dude....not a ****ing chance. CP3 makes Bynum THAT much more valuable, and makes Kobe THAT much bigger of a threat. Lakers have never had a PG...and this takes soooooo much pressure off the 2guard when you have someone like Paul.
Instant Finals favorites. THAT'S why Lando is mad.
The lakers dont need a PF/SF like Pau and Odom if they have paul. They can plug in those spots with good options, or ****, even defensive specialists, and be amazing. It's THAT kind of team with a good center, and 2 elite guards.
its a push on Bynum. First off, the guy is never healthy. He may be the most overrated player in the NBA. We'll see how much more value it gives him when hes there now that actually centers can play him not Gasol. He won't just be the left over guy now.

CHRIS PAUL IS A KNICK NEXT YEAR - NO MATTER WHERE HE GOES.

Whose the Lakers starting lineup now? Whose their bench? Not to mention CP3 is a china doll too.

Who gives a **** if it helps them?! Thats what a trade is SUPPOSE to do. If the Rockets and Hornets were getting screwed over in the process, i'd agree with you but bottom line EVERY team gets better. This would be horse**** if roles were reversed and the Hornets get Kobe to add wtih CP.

Bottom line Kevin Martin is a pretty legit player who averages in the 20s, Scola is a servicable big man, and Odom may of been the MVP of the Lakers. Rockets get Gasol which is a top tier talent and I don't get why everybody is forgetting that. The Hornets are getting something out of the impending doom that will come to their franchise.

EVerybody wins. Saying that because the Lakers are doing good things with their tema it shouldn't be allowed is stupid. Its a fair deal bottom line. You can't say its unfair or corrupt. Its completely fair and it will go through at the end of the day
Pizz just hates the NBA, nothing can make him happy. Unless Jordan comes back in his prime. Nothing will ever change his mind and the NBA will always suck.

A trade doesn't get more fair than this. The Lakers have the talent to be able to pull the trade. Don't you think the Hornets have explored every single possible deal they could find? This was the best one that would improve their team the most. Wait until CP3 leaves and they get nothing for him. Then NO will lose it's team because no one will show up to see them play. Then Stern will really feel like a dip****.

Pizz, I also don't think we would get Dwight if we got CP3. The Lakers would essentially say we are going to stick with Bynum Kobe and Chris. The Buss family loves Bynum. So do Lakers fans if he can just stay healthy.

You do understand that these 2 are free to sign with whoever they want next year right? You saw what happened with Melo last year right? Teams don't want to do that.
