  • Is Anyone Else Disappointed In The Giants Free Agency?

Brandon Marshall is probably too old. Terrelle Pryor would have
    been better for one-year contract.
Rhett Ellison might be a good blocker, but the Giants
need a big play tight end.
DJ Fluker was basically let go by the Chargers, so how
much better is he than Marshall at OT?
John Jerry at OG for 3 yrs?Really?Giants could
not do better than him in free agency?
Where is the upgrade at RB? Shane Vereen?
So will Ereck Flowers be the left tackle when season begins?
    Hope not!

No because i'm realistic and realize we have no cap space. Fans expecting a spending spree every year like last year need to wake up and realize there is a salary cap.

Im good with Brandon Marshall. He is only one year away from a great season. I won't be too much stock into last season with the jets. They were just a mess. I don't like the Rhett guy. I dont understand how he got that much money as a blocker. Hopefully he can catch?? Free agency is not over. The Giants can still get Blount. Hey even if he gets a 1/3 of his TDs he had last year that's a huge improvement for the giants lol.

the "he got release by another team so he must suck" argument is ridic. I mean yeah it obviously is true some of the time. But also some of the time it's not true. It goes both ways so saying it as an argument for either side is just dumb.

idk if Fluker will be good or not, but based on his contract and the potential reward, on top of what every other OL got this FA, plus the Giants cap space. Fluker makes a ton of sense.

Bmarsh is on a 1 year deal pretty much, if the Giants cut Bmarsh after this year they would save $5.5M, so it's essentially a 1 year deal for Bmarsh based on his perfromance. And his cap hit for this year is only $4.5M. Meanwhile Pryor's 1 year deal costs $6M this year. Pryor has 1 year as a good WR plus has beefed with one of our own CBs (Janoris Jenkins), while Marshall has a ton of experience in the league and has been dominant for most of his career. Bmarsh is also a very good run blocker. Bmarsh makes a ton of sense both for team chemistry and financially.

Ellison is a good blocker like you said. But also you gotta realize 1, There's still the draft LOADED with big play TEs. and 2, that Reese has never valued TE high so he may actually ride out with Ellison as TE1 if the draft doesnt fall in favor of a TE for us. He may have faith in Adams and Ellison combined. Cant hate on the Ellison signing because he gives us a major thing the Giants lacked last year. a TE and a FB that can block.

Jerry signed for 3 years but for $4.25M guaranteed. He can be cut pretty much at any time after this year and is no big deal. Plus he's depth if we dont find anyone better. It's always better to be safe than sorry, esp on a cheap deal like that. He can compete with Fluker and Jerry and possibly even a rookie for a starting spot this year, and if he doesnt win at least we have someone who started 41 games for us the last 3 years as depth that can come in if there was an injury.

RB they can still upgrade via the draft, and i think it's highly likely they will. Giants already have Perkins who showed us something last year and Vereen who people forget had 59 catches and 760 total yards in 2015 and was a big part of this offense out of the back field as a receiving threat. They add a big power type back in the draft and the back field is set for a few years to come.

Who would you of liked to replace Flowers? Would of of overpaid for a 36 year old? How about a 4yr $53M contract to someone whos only marginally better than Flowers but 7 years older than Flowers? As much as he sucked last year and he may potentially suck still this year, there's just simply no better options. Why not gamble on the 23 year old putting it all together in his 3rd year instead of overpaying for someone who costs a ton and would handcuff the rest of the teams moves?

The Giants moves all made sense this offseason. Theyve added people in FA with limited cap money that can help the team improve this year. They didnt really lose anyone from the 11-5 team of last year and have only improved on the offense.

The Giants may not of done what you wanted or what every fan wanted to do, but how the attacked FA and what they did made plenty of sense for how they were set up in the cap, how the market played, and the team structure.

            Great Post.. Thank You
Football has been very, very good to us.
After losing seasons 2013-15, the giants put up 11 wins in 16.. they are on way Back
But for now we can console ourselves with this fact-

            # of Super Bowl victories since 1985:

1-Chicago, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Indianapolis, New Orleans, Seattle
            2-Washington, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Baltimore
            3-San Francisco, Dallas, Denver
            4-New York Giants!!!
            5-NE
Let's make it 5 in 2016 so we can be on a LINE NE again!!!

Brandon Marshall was a phenomenal pickup in every way. There is literally no downside to acquiring him.

Pryor would've been better? I find it telling, he was the best weapon the Browns had and they didn't even resign him. With all that cap space they let him walk. Seems to be more glitter than gold.

I couldn't be happier with this off-season. We didn't overspend on old, injure plagued offensive linemen, we grabbed the one player that would come in and have the biggest immediate impact, in Marshall, and we picked up an immediate asset in run blocking and pass protection, in Ellison. What's not to love?
                NFL Draft (Realistic Hope):

                Rd 1
                Garrett Bolles - OT
                David Njoku - TE
                Zach Cunningham - OLB

Reese is actually improving at this people management game. If Fluker will ever have a career year, it will be this year. He has the body and should have all the incentive in the world playing for what should be the biggest pay day of his life. B marshall is a tremendous fit for this team. Putting on the storied Blue IMO is going to bring him right back to the top of his game, and he should prove to be a great leader to the young WRs who perhaps took a playoff berth a little too lightly. I like what he's done considering the constraints and he may have a trick or two left.

                        im very pleased thus far.

looking at some of the contracts these OL got, im glad we didn't pay top dollar for guys like Withworth, Wgner, Okung got a big deal for god knows what reason, even guys like Khalil and Reiff got payed. Fluker is someone that can improve the line, he was a former 1st rounder and showed potential in San Diego. sometimes a change of scenery is all guys need.

we upgraded at WR big time. we all love Cruz, but he wasn't the same player and it was time for a change. we got a 6'4 receiver who's gonna rip the ball out of defenders hands,be a nightmare for defenses in the red zone, be a good veteran pressence to have in the locker room. and we got him for 6 mil while jabronis like Pryor got 8 mil and Jeffrey got 14 mil. great move.

idk much about Ellison, but he's supposedly a beast of a blocker at both TE and FB which is going to help the running game and pass protection. he's not much of a receiving threat, but he was behind Kyle Rudolph who is very good so it's not surprised he didn't see much action in the passing game. maybe he could surprise and be Ballard 2011 like.

there's still the draft too. if we can add a few pieces like McCaffrey, maybe DT Watkins in the 2nd, we're in great shape.

only thing i want is for them to get JPP his extention so we have more cap room.

-Pryor could get $8 million for his 1 year deal, we couldn't afford that.
-They don't need a big play TE, they need one to contribute. With these WRs blocking is a much bigger need than receiving. Tye caught almost 50 balls last year and they could think Adams is the future.
-Couldn't the same be said for every single free agent?
-No, clearly they couldn't. He is a great depth signing if nothing else. Who would you have signed in Madden?
-The upgrade is cutting Jennings. Perkins is the upgrade.
-Yes. I've said it for months Flowers is our LT.

Did you really expect us to sign a top WR, big play TE, two big name OGs, a top RB and a new stud LT?
                          LT (132.5) -> Strahan (141.5) -> Osi (65) -> Tuck (60.5) -> JPP (50) -> ???

Exactly. The Giants aren't going to go on a big spending spree every year. Plus, some fans were insisting that the Giants tag JPP without realizing that tagging JPP would tie the Giants' hands financially when it came to getting some of the more expensive free agents.

No, with the amount of $ he had to spend, Reese has done a very good job in this FA period. Possibly got 4 starters without handing out huge $.
