• Eli Manning 2011/2012 Best Season In History for QB????

I have been thinking about this.... Did Eli maybe just have the best season any QB has ever had in history?

Almost 5000 yards, 30 TDs, over 100 QB Rating in the playoffs and a SB Championship?

Got overshadowed by guys like Brees and Brady having two of the best REGULAR seasons in QBing history, but neither of them won the Super Bowl.

Eli had one of the best regular seasons of all time and won the super bowl and dominated in the playoffs and orchastrated the game winning drive in the super bowl.

Not to mention we had the 32nd ranked running attack and 27th ranked defense this year.

So my question is.... Has there ever been a better season by any QB, in any year, ever?

You can definitely say it was one of the best seasons for a quarterback in NFL history. At least top 5.

For the regular season, you can't look past Brady's 4800 yds, 50TDs and only 8 INTs. We all know how that ended though.

Drew Brees' Super Bowl-winning 2009 season is possibly better -

Regular season:
4388 yds
34 TDs
11 INTs
109.6 QB rating

Post season:
732 yds
8 TDs
0 INTs
117.0 QB rating

Eli Manning last season (total, including 4 playoff games):

20 games
6,152 yards passing
38 TD
17 INT
465 completions
752 attempts
(61.8%)
8.18 Y/A
95.12 rating
One big shiny silver trophy
SB MVP
Made a supermodel curse

Not the greatest ever, but a truly HOF-level season.

When it's all said and done, Eli will go down as one of the best ever in NFL history.

You might be able to argue it was the best complete season for a QB ever of all the QBs who won a SB in the same year as their contending season. The Brees one in 2009 was up there.

I have to agree with you on Brees. Playing and excellent regular season, post season and winning a superbowl. Not to discredit what Eli has accomplish this season, but I think Brees does have the upper hand. But Eli's regular season through superbowl have to be top 5.

Yeah it was the best.

This will become clearer over time.

But when you consider all of the questionmarks at the start of the season.

The whole elite debate.

The lack of running game.

The lack of defense.

The downing of two of the Qbs that everyone scoffed about when Eli said he was in their class.

The come back wins.

Game winning drives.

The removal of any fluke talk on Super Bowl 42 and delivering the greatest pass in Super Bowl history. (Possibly the greatest pass period)

Over time when people start looking back on his career it will be apparent that no one has ever had such an amazingly dramatic season at Quarterback.
My 5 year old son right before the kickoff of the Super Bowl 46: Dad, are the Giants gonna win?

Burier: Yes.

My 5 year old son right before the kickoff of Super Bowl 46: Do you promise?

Burier: Yes. I promise.

He has to stay healthy. That means the older he gets the better our O line has to get. He is durable but not made of steel.

There is no question that Eli turned a corner in 2011 and had a great season. Before this season, he had been much more inconsistent. I still believe that his poor play (by his standards) in 2010 had an impact on his play since.

His career will probably be judged by everything he will have done from 2011 forward. Right now he is definately a top 5 QB.

He's not made of steel. He's made of a synthetic flexible substance and has no skeleton. Thats why he's stayed healthy.

Lol - this is a great thread. 92.9 regular season QB rating, 9-7 team that barely makes the playoffs, 16 interceptions against only 29 touchdowns...only the geniuses on this forum could turn that into the "Best Season in History."
