  • Report: Woody Johnson Says Tim Tebow "Forced" On Him

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap100...-forced-on-him

Woody Johnson, by all accounts, was the first to purchase a ticket for the Tim Tebow bandwagon, but the New York Jets owner has been telling a different story of late.

Former Denver Broncos executive Ted Sundquist, who interviewed with the Jets this month for the team's general manager position, told Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com that Johnson described Tebow as being "forced" on both him and team president Neil Glat.

Johnson reportedly told Sundquist he "jumped on board" with the idea after choosing to trust the football side of the operation.
"They realized it was divisive and hard on the locker room, and they wanted an exit strategy," Sundquist said, fueling speculation that Tebow is a goner in Florham Park." Read more...

You have to appreciate being a fan of the New York Football Giants when you see this kind of circus continuing year after year.

      Uhm.....

So let me get this straight. You, Woody Johnson. The OWNER of the NY Jets. The guy who cuts the checks was "forced" to bring in a player? Way to make Tannenbaum the scapegoat, and not own up to your decisions.

Woody should have said that for about 1 year before he signed Tebow he had an internet relationship with him and believed him when he wrote on his facebook page that he was a really good QB and that's why he signed him. But now he realizes the whole thing was a hoax. You'd have a better shot at getting people to believe you Woody, if you said that.

Who do you think is forcing him to keep Rex? The AFC East?

He got a message on his facebook page from Rex saying that one day he will win a Super Bowl for the Jets. And he was very sincere when he wrote it. Through that Woody believes in him.

Woody is probably clinging onto those two AFC championship games in believing in Rex.

Honestly, I don't think Woody is a football guy. I don't think he understands the game, or have a passion for the game like the Mara's, or the rooney's or the Kraft's. He doesn't have a feel for the game and the Jets is just 1 of many other businesses he has.

The Jets have probably been losing money so rather than solve the problem with a long term solution which is draft and develop a team and players from the inside out he goes for the quick fix and trade for popular players who will get back page headlines but aren't necessarily good for building a winning team.

Probably the best analysis I have seen yet.
I've been saying it for years. If there was no salary cap, the Jets and Raiders would probably win every single super bowl. Some teams try to buy success, others build it. The teams that build it are typically winners.

Maybe Woody can cut his losses and go buy the Mets.

The content of this report is not the biggest problem with the Jets.

The fact that Woody Johnson would spill tidbits like this when interviewing a GM with clear media ties is far more pathetic. Especially after realizing how unappealing the job evidently was. My god.

They do that by design. Cheap publicity.
