New season with free agency here wanted to vent on how stupid this Ellisbury contract is.

We fight with Cano over money and he is a top 5 hitter and is on the field every day to give a ridiculous contract to Ellisbury . Im convinced Cashman is clueless

I thought the Yankees were going to Downsize this year, lol.

But Kashman isn't near as Clueless as my White Sox (Sox's?) Rick Hahn and Kenny Williams...they have done NOTHING and most likely will do NOTHING this year and will be bottom feeders for the next 10 years, easy.
They said Brady and the Patriots couldn't be beat, Eli did it twice, how's that for Elite?

The Yankees offered Cano 7 years roughly over $170 million. That is around 26 million a season, not even the great Jeter got that much per season.
It's reported the Mariners are in a bidding war now, 8 years $200 million. You know what.. Have him, let him play in that huge park with no support in the batting order. He can buy all the Starbucks coffee he wants...

I like the Ellsbury deal, we had to spend to get him and we did. His contract will be up around 37-38. We have a replacement for Granderson and we took away a key player from a division rival. Plus we have a player who can snag 50+ bases a season. The only question is injuries, if he can play 130-140 games a season I'm fine with that. The McCann deal was good too, the Yankees learned from last year not to go into the season with no catchers. Now we have a good hitting Catcher who plays with fire behind the plate.

Now we have to address starting pitching.

Giants fan since the early 80s

Have to hope the Yankees can add two more pitchers. I would love to see them get Tanaka and Arroyo.
        Stop Booing Tiki Barber.

We overpaid for Jacoby, I'm glad the front office is trying to do something but that's a little too much for a guy that can't stay healthy and doesn't consistently hit a lot of HR's. We need more pitching help but other than that I can't wait for the 2014 season.

              Go Yankees!!!!

I get the feeling the Ellsbury deal is the start of ARod part 2...

I'm Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite team in the NFL.

Not even close. Think more of the Tex deal.

I dont hate the move to bring in Ellsbury, reminds me of a better Damon. With that said, 7 years is a lot for a 29-30 year old who has some injury history. Plus that $ is outragious, but thats baseball for you.

The speed he can provide for this team is great though. Plus, everyone is saying he wont reach those power numbers of a few years ago, well, does everyone forget the short porch in right and how Kevin Long loves the long ball? Why do you think Granderson hit all those HRs while his averge dipped?

                        but Teixera is actually useful...
Cano deserves BETTER than a ex-red sawx, just saying

                        Compare please-

                        Gardner @ http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/stats/.../brett-gardner
                        Career: RBI .177 AVG .268 OBP .352 SLG .381 OPS .733

                        Ellsbury @ http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/stats/...acoby-ellsbury
                        Career: RBI .314 AVG .297 OBP .350 SLG .439 OPS .789

Except for the AVG these 2 are very similar. Would you pay Brett that kind of dough?

Lets be honest, Ellsbury is much better at the plate and on the basepaths then Gardner. He is probably a bit better in the field too. Plus, Jacoby has more power that once again will come into play at Yankee stadium. With that said, I still feel like it is a ton of money and risky to sign a guy who's strength is speed into his late 30s at $22M a year. Plus, dont the Yanks have some minor leaguers in the outfield? Austin? Willians? ect?

Like I said, I am not all aboard with the signing, but I dont hate it. IF he stays healthy (big if), he will be solid in the first 4-5 years of the contract. Those last 2 or 3 could be ugly though.

I was just saying this contract is more of a Tex contract then an Arod contract. Cano is trying to get the Arod contract.

Cano 10yr $240M to the Mariners. Terrible signing by a team that is more then 1 piece away.

3rd largest contract in MLB (Arod, Pujols)

                            Compare that to Pedroia's 7 year $110M.

I never liked the Tex deal. Great glove but his bat is way too streaky.
