  • Report: Colin Kapernick Looking For $18M Per Season

    http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-...ion-per-season

Excerpt: "Thanks to the new collective bargaining agreed to before the 2011 season, players can extend or alter their contracts after their third year in the league. Quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who led the 49ers to back-to-back NFC Championship games and a Super Bowl appearance, just finished his third season. He's set to make a base salary of $973,766 in 2014 but is looking for substantially more than that.

Kaepernick and the 49ers have begun discussions about a new deal and according to the Boston Globe's Ben Volin, the former second-round pick is looking for something along the lines of Jay Cutler's recent contract that pays him $18.1 million per season with $38 million guaranteed." Read more...

When he gets all this money he'll be able to afford plenty more Dolphin hats.

If the 49ers give that contract, they better make damn sure that either Harbaugh or Roman are there to stay.

This is a chance for the 49ers to sign him possibly below peak value pending another strong season. On the other hand, the 49ers can make Kaepernick play out his rookie-capped deal for under $1 million base this season and work with the cap space that they have right now. The fact of the matter is that the 49ers have gone to 3 straight NFC championship games with 0 Superbowls and it's not going to be easier with Kaepernick making anywhere close to elite starting QB salary. The project salary cap next season is going to increase so they should have more cap room to deal with Kaepernick next season.

I don't blame Kaepernick for wanting to get a big pay day after he's seen QBs like Cutler, Ryan, Stafford and Romo get the big pay day without having to win as many playoff games and getting to a Super Bowl. But the Niners would be stupid to give him the cash he's looking for just like the Bears, Falcons, Lions and Cowboys were stupid to hand out those big deals to QBs who haven't won them a Super Bowl.

Kaepernick definitely deserves a pay raise, but with all the tensions between Harbaugh and the FO they shouldn't be foolish enough to tie that much cash up in one player unless you know you've got some stability with the head coach.

Russell Wilson actually has a Superbowl victory, but he won't be getting paid this season. lol

Yeah, it sucks for Russell that he just finished the 2nd year of his rookie contract and it can't be renegotiated yet thanks to the new CBA. Seattle better hope he doesn't win another Super Bowl next season when he can renegotiate because the Seahawks will have to break the bank.

Fukishima radiation has finally reached the west coast. Massive brain tumor discovered in 49's quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Will be treated with experimental "reality check therapy"
