  • Mock Draft 4/4/12

Hey guys, Here is an outside the box sort of mock:

I have us trading down with Cleveland and ending up with 2 2nd, 2 3rd and 2 4th rounders. Trade details below:
Cle gets pick #32 in the first round and our 7th rounder
Giants get pick #37 in the second round and Cleveland's 3rd rounder as well.

    Draft

2A - Doug Martin - RB Boise St. - We traded down and got an extra 3rd and still acquired a stud RB to platoon with AB and eventually ascend to our #1 back. Martin can do it all and would be a great pickup here.

2B - Bobbie Massie - OT Mississippi - Massie fills a big need and I believe he would start day 1 at RT. BPA and need filled with this pick.

3A - Marvin Jones - WR California - Jones has had a great offseason and I feel will fit the Mario role to a tee. He is also insurance in case we lose Cruz or Nicks at some point.

3B - Mike Martin - DT Michigan - Martin is a beast and will fit nicely in our rotation with a chance at being a starter down the road.

4A - Jerry Franklin - LB Arkansas - Franklin is a tackling machine and has the versatility to play either outside or the middle. Good value here

4B - Ron Brooks - CB LSU - Brooks has the tools to be a starter at some point but was stuck behind Claiborne and the Honey Badger at LSU. Possible steal here

5 - David Paulson - TE Oregon - Paulson is a nice player who will fit in behind Bennett and the Bear with a chance at a bigger role in the future.

6 - Jamie Blatnick - DE Oklahoma State - Blatnick can take the Tolly role as the 4th DE and a chance to learn behind the best.

    2012 Roster

    Offense (25)
    QB - Eli, Carr
    RB - AB, Martin, Scott
    FB - Hynoski
WR - Cruz, Nicks, Jones, Jernigan, Barden, Hixon
    TE - Bennett, Pascoe, Paulson
    LT - Beatty, Diehl
    LG - Petrus, Boothe
    C - Baas
    RG - Snee, Cordle
    RT - Massie, Brewer
    K- Tynes

    Defense (28)
DE - Osi, JPP, Tuck, Blatnick
DT - Canty, Joseph, Martin, Austin
    OLB - Boley, Williams
    MLB - Goff, Franklin, Herzlich
    OLB - Kiwi, Pasyinger
CB - Webster, TT, Prince, Brooks, Tryon, Coe
    S - Rolle, Sash
S - Phillips, Brown, Chad Jones
    P - Weatherford
    LS - DeOssie

    What do you guys think?

Lovin the Doug Martin pick/ trading down...
But, I'd much rather Grab a LB like Nigel Bradham in the 3rd instead of Franklin..

I like it. Don't like Brooks in the 4th though and would rather see Egnew in the 3rd maybe instead of Paulson later. Overall pretty solid IMO.

Now this would be a sweet draft.

I like round 2. I think we can do better at WR in round 3. I believe we also need another interior lineman for depth.

I see our needs at MLB being a little higher than OLB, which is why I don't see Bradham on our radar.

                      The picks I don't like:

Ron Brooks - a bit small for what we like in CB and a 6th round prospect ... why reach?

Mike Martin - Undersized DT ... no thanks.

                      Otherwise I like it [b]

I usually go by this site as my guideline and it has Brooks as a 3rd rounder, which I feel is a bit high but better than the 6th for me.

Also, Martin is short but at about 305, he could be a good UT in our rotation. He is strong as an ox though.

Comparing Moss and Jernigan is like comparing Ryan Leaf and Eli Manning. Imo. Reese drafted Jernigan to play not observe. Reese does not invest #3 picks as back -ups. Jernigan will have the chance to be the #3 b4 any others and he will win the job as expected. Seems about 70 - 80 % of the folks on this board recognize Jernigan has got a great shot to be a good one for us. The others are kinda thickheaded about it. Thing is it's ok to have a difference of opinion. If we all agreed on everything = what a bore. Brewster was a #4 and is being groomed to play for Mac. I know Reese has made mention that he expects good things from Brewster and that's not as a bench warmer. I'm all for getting great players and position competition but to state that 2 rookies are going to come in and beat out Jernigan and Brewster just sounds like a stretch!
