  • NY Giants: 2013 NFL Mock Draft, April 15th Edition

Excerpt: "We are on the official countdown to April 25th. In just 10 days, the 2013 NFL Draft will officially kick off and the Kansas City Chiefs will be on the clock. But so will the New York Giants, who hold the 19th pick of the first round.

Ever since the season ended back in late December, and the Giants were eliminated from playoff contention by the Chicago Bears in Week 17, all of the fans have made their wish lists and come up with their mock drafts for April. The Giants finished with a 9-7 record for the second straight year and fell short of defending their Super Bowl title. Because of this, Giants General Manager Jerry Reese knows he needs to make some improvements. He had to make some tough decisions this offseason, such as cutting Ahmad Bradshaw, Michael Boley and Chris Canty, and letting Martellus Bennett, Domenik Hixon and Kenny Phillips leave as free agents.
But these decisions are made with the teams best interests for both the short term as well as the long term. It's why Giant fans utter the phrase, "In Reese We Trust." And Giants fans will be trusting Reese and his scouts decisions again come April 25th, when it's time for him to draft the next wave of players who will don the blue and white.

We at Giants 101 did an April 1st edition of a mock draft and told you fans who we thought would be the best picks for the team. Two weeks later, it's time to make the picks with 10 days left until draft night.

    Round 1, No. 19 Pick:
    Desmond Trufant, CB, Washington
Back on April 5, Mel Kiper, Jr. did one of his many mock drafts and explained why the Giants should draft the corner out of Washington. Kiper cites that he is an NFL-ready defensive back who will instantly make the Giants secondary an even better one. And he's right. Plus, it shouldn't shock anyone if Reese targets a corner, considering he's drafted two corners in the first round since taking over as GM in 2007; (Aaron Ross in 2007, Prince Amukamara in 2011).
    Round 2, No. 49 Pick
    : Kyle Long, OT, Oregon
The son of Howie Long and brother of St. Louis Rams' Chris Long is ready to make his leap into the NFL. The Giants desperately need to inject their offensive line with some youth as the majority of it have guys over 30. Plus, the right tackle spot is up for grabs and it's not certain that the Giants will bring back Sean Locklear after he suffered a broken leg late in 2012. Kyle Long is regarded as the best athlete of the family and would be a major addition to ensure Eli Manning stays off his back. Plus, he could have David Diehl serve as a bit of a mentor while he's in the final year of his contract, and likely the last season on the team.
    Round 3, No. 81 Pick:
    Sean Porter, OLB, Texas A&M
Most of the focus in mock drafts has been on middle linebacker, but don't be shocked to see the Giants get involved in either Brian Urlacher or Karlos Dansby if their price tag drops. The Giants do need to focus on depth at outside linebacker, especially since Keith Rivers has been injury prone, Jacquian Williams missed a lot of time in 2012 and Mathias Kiwanuka is likely to move back to defensive end. With an addition of Sean Porter in the draft, it gives the Giants an athletic player who isn't afraid to take on the ball carrier and can set the end on the outside. Plus, as a linebacker, he's pretty good in pass coverage, an area the Giants linebackers struggled in last season." Read more...

Kyle long is the best athlete in the family? Um what?

And if Mel Kiper is saying the giants should take trufant, then we might as well cross trufant off the list as possible picks

At the very least if we took him, we'd have more than just Strahan to defend the team on FOX. It's kinda grating to hear Jimmy Johnson and Terry Bradshaw constantly ripping on the team...

I'm Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite team in the NFL.

And I thought weathermen had cake jobs.
I don't always root for the Cowboys but when I do I wear my pink Jessica Simpson edition Romo jersey. (yes I lost a bet)

Don't like Trufant at all feel he's been hyped up the boards, rather Jamar Taylor or Jordan Poyer.
