  • Andrew Norwell to Giants a "Done Deal": Tony Pauline

    https://www.bigblueview.com/2018/3/6...lled-done-deal

Don't kill the messenger if he's wrong..

It has been common knowledge in NFL circles for a while that the New York Giants would like to begin the reconstruction of their offensive line by signing Carolina Panthers All-Pro free-agent guard Andrew Norwell. They could be getting their wish when the free agent signing period opens March 14.

Draft Analyst Tony Pauline, who has had his ear to the ground at the NFL Combine in recent days, reported Tuesday morning that Norwell to the Giants is a “done deal.”

If so, it will be an expensive deal for the Giants. Spotrac estimates that the 26-year-old Norwell will get a five-year, $58.9 million deal, $11.7 million annually. That is probably conservative. Many expect a Norwell deal to exceed the five-year, $60 million deal Kevin Zeitler got from the Cleveland Browns a year ago.

    Is it in the budget?
"Sir, I was wondering: did you happen to catch the professional football contest on television last night?"
    "No...I didn't."
"Oh it was most exhilarating: the Giants of NY took on the Packers of Green Bay and in the end the Giants triumphed by kicking an oblong ball made of pigskin through a big H. It was a most ripping victory."

We have about 11million in cap space if this goes through. Expect the cuts to start coming fast a furious to make space.

Pugh may also be in play, as he has an affordable number

This is where Gettleman starts showing the door to Reeses guys, and opens the pockets for his guys.

Bye bye Pugh if this is true.

So really, we replace Pugh with Norwell. Its an upgrade, but not an overwhelming one. Still need a C and 2 tackles.

It's an upgrade in play, toughness and durability. We do lose Pugh's versatility though.

What do you think it would cost to get Pugh back? At least $10M per year, right?

I guess this is where Gettleman starts earning his paycheck because this is what he was brought in here to do....

Yeah. 5 years $50m at least. I wouldnt expect Norwell to sign less than 5 years $60m the way G value has shot up too.

Do you think we need to replace Jones at C?

Forget Pugh.....even if he comes back for a $5 mil year......he'll only play 3-4 games a year.....back problems for O-lineman are career killers.

                          Yup.

                          Make the right moves.

That #2 pick is going to be HUGE.

Its basically like EA's Eli pick. Its going to stick with Gettleman forever.

Nope....They estimate Pugh's current value at $6million per, due to durability issues. The rest is up to his agent, but anyone who signs him for more is asking for trouble.

                              Yes.

HE looked good last year no doubt, but I dont think it will repeat. Its more shows you how weak Richburg is. We could and should upgrade center.
