  • Greg Gabriel on Draft QB's

Just heard Greg Gabriel on a podcast discussing this year's QB draft class.

    http://moranalytics.com/ep-08-greg-g...ear-nfl-scout/

This is a guy who is a real scout - not one of these internet wannabes. It's a good listen ... he basically thinks this class is way overrated. He doesn't think that any of the top 4 this year are better than the top 3 last year.

And he is not buying Josh Allen at all ....

Ya, I dont get the love for Allen at all.

Wow, what a difference from what you usually hear on the NFL channel.

So his favorite out of these four QB's is Mayfield, and he doesn't like his size. His assessment on Allen is down right scary.

I've been touting Mayfield for awhile now, just don't think the Giants will pick him (would be shocked to be honest). Allen is a very intriguing prospect. He has grown a lot in the last 2 years, and hasn't had dedicated QB coaching until recently. He's big, has great throwing skills, and is intelligent. If the team that he goes to figures out how to develop him properly, he could be a perennial all-pro, but his bust potential is also quite high due to the accuracy issues.

On drafting a QB in the top 6 picks, "If he fails, you're fired."

          I agree.

Ha! That's the biggest quote I took out of it too.

The Jets GM might be fired anyway if he doesn't find a QB, so it makes sense that he might swing for the fences on a Josh Allen.

But Gettleman? To take a chance like that in his first draft? I don't see it.

I'm starting to think more and more that if Cleveland takes Darnold at 1, we are out of the QB business.

You're probably right. I think peeps that say he has to "love" the QB at 2 are correct. Even though I like Allen, I would be very surprised if Gettleman takes him at 2, especially when we kind of have his twin on our roster already (Webb).

Unfortunately people here won't care and think you need to draft a QB no matter what. There are no other options out there worth discussing.

Whether we do or not, it won't be up to us.

His 2017 article was surprisingly good, I wanted to see his last year to see if he just made bold claims.

8 lbs makes him skinny? They are almost identical physically and both are/were considered more project QBs than instant starters.

Thanks for sharing. This guy looks like he was spot on. I'm going to see what he said in year's prior.

I thought he was listed as being under 200 lbs. He looks it.

One link has his weight listed at 229 lbs as you stated. The other link lists his weigh at only 194 lbs. Hopefully the 229 lbs is more accurate.
