  • If Giants Draft a QB #2

If Giants Draft a QB #2.
We know Eli will be the starter in 2018. What's the plan for QB in 2019?

    a) Cut Eli after 2018 with 1 year left on contract
    b) Make Eli the backup and have him end his career holding the clipboard on the sideline.
    c) Eli continues to be the starter resulting in #2 overall pick sitting for 2 years.
    d) Trade Eli

IF we draft a qb at 2, i would say the ideal situation would be option B

That way, if our draftpick gets hurt we still have a starting caliber QB ready to go

          Easy A

A, the cap hit for Eli after this season is pretty palatable if I'm not mistaken.

                Probably A
Depending, on what type of season he has this up coming year..
You don't want Eli lurking over the kid shoulder.
We did move Warner after one year.

C if Eli earns it. Or, E: trade Eli for a 3rd or 4th.

Doubt very seriously you get anything for a 38 year old QB. If he does good this year why wouldn't he start the following year. Heck he could get a year or 2 extension and play to 40 like Brady and Breez.

If we draft a QB at #2 then Eli's days are numbered.
He will never be a back up...That's ridiculous. They will release him but he would probably retire before that happened.

If we draft a QB this year in the first or second round (and the OP based his premise on drafting at #2), winning a SB may be the only way Eli gets a second year, IMO. You are probably right about not getting anything - though if he plays well, who knows?

they will part ways after 2018. Eli will either retire or go to a team that intends to start him.

No your right if we draft a QB Eli might get 2 years including this one but that's it. And even a 2nd year is a long time for the #2 pick in the draft to sit.
